Always appreciate your videos and getting back to basics is refreshing. Most of us playing bass are not nor are we trying to be like Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller or Les Claypool.

God bless you John. I'm in my 60z, riddled with arthritis from racing motorcycles, but I refuse to quit. I pray for your continued playing success, regardless of what that may be. I lost 2 women that I loved in less than 10 years, picking up my Bass is often harder than raising the Titanic for me, keep on keeping on brother.

@@t.s.racing I really appreciate your encouraging words! I’m sorry for your losses and I can relate. Funny, my day job supporting my music is in the motorcycle industry. Keep Truckin’ Brother \ m /

As you say in the intro of the video. This is very important to master for a bass player. Even for an oldtimer like me, I still do basic rehearsals like this to sharpen my "right-note-at-right-time" skills.

Do you have a suggestion for a country bass rig? Been playing for a few years, but I’m looking to buy myself a set up, preferably a 5 string

Not specifically. Typically more of an old school sound… maybe something like Hofner / precision / Gibson semi acoustic and ampeg or other valve amp… What do your hero’s use?

Riff 4. First note is staccato?

Yes, I like it short… Interestingly I noticed that where one places the slide also changes the articulation of the rest of the phase too… So many choices!

This is really frustrating. If you want to teach, you need to learn how to write how you play. You are playing with rests that are not written. You are NOT playing what is written. Please fix this.

Sure, I can see what you’re saying. That’s a fair point. What I would respond to this (not defend) is that not length is often down to the discretion of the player and it’s what makes individual players unique. It’s not uncommon that the dots or sheet music are more of a guide, than absolute. Hope that helps…
