Hello Fellow Woodworkers!
Welcome to this weeks’ video from The Garage Workshop!
In this weeks’ 10 minute tool review I review the Evolution R15 Vac.
I put the wet and dry shop vac through it's paces as I test its sound output, speed and capacity of dust collection and also the 'power through' feature of this Evolution corded shop vac model.
If this is your first visit to The Garage Workshop, please can I ask you to subscribe, like, comment and hit the notification bell.
If you are a regular viewer thank you so much and please like and comment too.
I’ll see you on next weeks’ video!
Happy Woodworking!

Just bought one, and like you i like the compact size, its primarily going to be hooked up to my cnc router, ive 3d printed a sleeve to fit inside the 'suck port' and then use a 63mm extraction hose with magnetic quick connects, i didnt think the hose they supplied was all that good and the outlet is tiny. The blow function is powerful though and if reduced a bit might even rival an airline blower. You can also now buy bags to replace the filter which are supposed to be M grade filtered which i may try

I watched this video when it came out but have just returned as I was doing my research before hitting 'submit order' on Amazon. I have a dust collection system in my workshop which is connected to a Stanley Fatmax vacuum. It runs through a cyclone & dust collection bucket & then through a system of 40mm PVC waste pipes, through individual blast games to all the stationary power tools in my workshop + a 3m hose which I use to connect to my tracksaw, orbital sander etc... It's a good system, which takes advantage of the power takeoff (with all tools connected to a power strip). However, when I use the 3m hose to clean up the shop, it seems to clog up fairly regularly, with all the stringy bits of detritus & taking the system apart to find the blockage & get it cleared it a royal pain in the posterior! I decided I'd had enough when it blocked up at the worst possible time & decided to buy a vacuum just for cleaning the workshop, so that if it blocks I can easily take it apart & find the issue. This will mean the main system only has to deal with the fine sawdust off the stationary tools & not all the other bits & pieces that get all over the floor & worktops. I used the house Henry the other day & noticed the suction was much stronger than the workshop system, which makes sense, as there is a lot of pipework. This vac also has the advantage of being portable for site work & the power takeoff will be great for keeping customers' houses as clear of dust as possible. Easier than carting the Henry around & more professional than asking to borrow their vacuum cleaner. This video convinced me it was the right design & brand (as well as the positive reviews online). Looking forward to giving it a try when it arrives on Friday. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the detailed comment and I have to say having used the vac for a while now I am a big fan of it. For essentially a small unit, the suction power is very good, the sound is an acceptable level and it's lightweight and compact. It's not the greatest choice for my mitre saw but as others have commented, the mitre saws are known for not being great with dust collection.

@@thegarageworkshop4791 Just arrived about an hour ago. I'm very pleased as it fits into a spot under my workbench, where I do most of the cleanup & with the decent cord length, I can take it out when needed. The blower function seems more powerful than the compressor gun attachment too. Mitre saw dust collection is a perennial issue. I added a skirt to the existing rubber catcher on my old Titan mitre saw, which worked really well. Last year I replaced it with a Bosch & the mess it makes is upsetting :( I can't really build a box at the back, due to space constraints, so will try to find some rubber sheets & add on a skirt to try & cut down on the spread a bit :)

I looked at few of these although a en ended up going with a numatic Henry. I have also invested into the centec quick release system. Could be worth look at them to add to that to mitre saw table saw then u can quick release between each machine. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍 From my experience they work great and can also buy small ones that will attach to sanders.

Great video. I've recently bought one of these vacs for my Evolution mitre saw. So far i'm very happy with it. Regarding some of the comments about dust port adaptors, i think it may have something to do with the model. I have the Evolution R255SMS-DB+ and the dust port adaptor that came with the vac fitted perfectly. I wonder if other models have different sized dust extraction ports.....sounds like they must do. Anyway, keep up the good work. I always look forward to your videos each Monday morning. Gets my week off to a good start!

The power take of wont (or shouldn't) start the tool when you turn the vac on. It works that when you turn the tool on it starts the vac. It should be that way for every tool not just your table saw

Hi Adam..yes that's correct it's when the tool starts the vac starts.

Just bought one of these but haven't used it yet but I did notice a couple of sellers on ebay advertising bags to fit the R15 (5no £12) & after watching other reviews commenting about fine dust escape after a couple of uses I thought I'd get some bags & try with & without.
@thegarageworkshop4791

Yeah I also thought about that but want to use it more to see how much of an issue the fine dust is.

I've had one of these for a number of months now but not even opened the box as of yet. Still trying to get back to normal after everything that's happened. You usually get an extraction dust port adaptor with the tools which will allow this to connect to any evolution tool

I usually go for a shop vac that has the dust collection bag inside. Bagless shop vacs require regular cleaning of the internal filter which can become a pain in the neck.

Ive got one of these vacs and ive got an evolution mitre saw and the hose adapter came with the mitre saw if youve still got the packaging the adapter will be in there also you didnt mention the vac has an auto shut off after 5 seconds of turning the tool off i think its a very useful feature to point out

Thanks Halken ...I did check the box again and no luck. I got one anyway from a powertool website for a couple of quid. Thanks for that I thought I had mentioned the 5 second shut off...my bad.

I have the same model of shop vac. I bought an adapter separately, which was only a couple of quid more from evolution. It is only used for my mitre saw & clean up. I can't use with my random orbital sander as the hose keeps falling out. I've tried duct tape, but I can't seem to wedge it tight enough. Probably needs more tape.

Rubber band a heppa filter bag over the filter. Cut it so the filter fits in the bag and a bunch of bands at the top. Will save the filter and keep the dust particles down a bit. Those filter blow through and it's a chore cleaning up the customers houses after that happens.
