The Cleveland Way is a National Trail in the historic area of Cleveland in North Yorkshire, northern England. It runs 110 miles between Helmsley and the Brigg at Filey, skirting the North York Moors National Park. This is the kit I took with me to complete the hike.

I think for me the comfort items are more about relieving anxiety. I took around 2 litres extra water recently on a beach camp so I knew I had excess and wouldn't run out. It made for extra weight but it made the whole trip less stressful for me.

If you can track down some altra gaiters (or stick a bit of velcro to the back of the Montane ones) you can velcro them to the back of your Altras! There should be a tab on the back heel you can pull down to expose the velcro. Not all models have it, if they don't they just add your own velcro. Then, attach them to the tab at the bottom of your laces. Job's a goodun!

Every episode of the Cleveland way (which was an amazing watch btw) i thought "how the hell does he manage to bang out >20 miles with full camp kit on board?". Ive been doing the South West Coast path and lugging my gear up some of those hills feels, i imagine, like being a tortoise. Im done at 15 miles. 20 miles with a day bag is also hard graft and i'm a fit marathon trail runner. i doth my cap. Keep up the great videos

Just cracked the Cleveland Way! Love the videos! And these were a great help in deciding daily stops... But you don't show just how tough it is! Left Helmsley at 15,10 with ovvernight camping at Osmotherley YHA, Kildale (Park Farm) used bunkhouse - less effort!, Hinderwell, bed at Boggle Hole YHA and camp at Filey. Osmotherley to Kildale may be the toughest day I have ever done, (Especially when navigational incompetences adds 3 miles!) although Kildale to Hinderwell was also a long, hard day! you

I've been wearing Darn Toughs for a while along with the Altra Lone Peaks. Light bulb moment.... Why am I wearing trail runners that allow my feet to spread but socks that don't. Game changer... Injinji toe socks. Did the Coast 2 Coast in a pair of Injinji liner socks and Altra Lone Peak 6. Feels like each of your toes are gripping the ground and no blisters.

Your kit is almost a duplicate of what we carried on The Colorado Trail (minus the bear-proofing!). Shoes-wise I had some Lone Peaks but upgraded last minute to the Altra Olympus 4’s (with Vibram sole). They were absolutely BRILLIANT and gripped much better than the Lone Peaks (which I already loved). Lasted all 500 miles of some brutal territory. Worth a look if you’re replacing the Lone Peaks.

If you have to dig a trench big enough to bury a 10 litre rucksack then just ignore my hint and happy digging :)

Hey dude, been watching for a few years now and you really did inspire me to get back out in the wild.. I am ex military and I lost my way if you want to call it... Then finally got some good gear in over the passed wee while also. Got a wee question if you wouldn't mind answering.. What's your thoughts on the Military gear, I have pretty much bought the whole rig I had in the forces, IE -40 sleeping bags x3, OEX 2 man tent (Amazing if in my opinion) Bergans, Lowa boots and so on... As everyone knows they carry a lot (Bergans 120 ltr) but are heavvvvvy as... What is your suggestion, to carry roughly same gear but lighter.. Your bag came in at 7kg if I am correct, mine is sitting at 12... But don't get me wrong, its full of useful things, but I need to reduce it. What would be your recommendations? Got to add, the -40 sleeping bag is obviously 4 seasons and not needed more times, but its sitting at 3kg itself... Tent is 2,2.. Thats 5 already...

@@HazeOutdoors interesting. Maybe they fixed it since last version?
