In which the gentleman in question provides his point of view on Clan Ravnos, the clan most often seen as deceivers, charlatans and tricksters within Vampire: The Masquerade.

You referenced basic Chimerstry. But the illusions created are sensory, and while everyone and their brother think of things they want enemies to see, I've always found more traction with tactics like making those chasing my character feel the tactile sensation of their heads being cut off, or their skin on fire as a blur bursts past them. Visual illusions are the easiest, but I've found them to be the least fun.

Chimestry with fortitude at first and second level of each can be deadly as you can make a static image real ,embodies chacing you ,brick wall , giant 20ft wide 60 ft deep hole ,or even ,a damn weapon out of thin air ,you have a constant arsenal or throwing knives ,spears ,temporary stakes ect... you could even make a curtain inbetween you and somone and let them talk about there whole plan and have a tape recorder .

Thanks for all the fine plugs in this video brother. I appreciate it. I might be able to get a vid response up for it tonight. Great job with the vid. I think I'll not even mention the progenitor as you covered that whole piece so thoroughly. Obfuscate is a great out of clan discipline for one from this clan to pick up.

I always liked the Ravnos. Illusions are an odd power for vampires (little to no legends have them as illusionists) but the Ravnos just have miles of style. I had a Malkavian character who was allied with a Ravnos NPC. Sowing chaos and madness was made very easy for this deadly alliance. Eventually I had to kill the Ravnos (as you do) because much like the scorpion and the frog, treachery was just in his nature.

@Nejira Not at all! It's really all about role-playing and storytelling. There's no reason why a Ventrue can't command a mob leader (let's say) with one dot in Dominate to "defecate" therefore embarrassing him in front of his capos or another influential gang leader in one fell swoop as he shits himself.

I'd wager that Loki could actually be a potent Ravnos that somehow trolled--pun very much intended--someone into writing him into the Poetic Edda. XD I would love to make a "The Dance of The Thrashing Dragon" yang virtue Kuei-jin version of Ikkyu Sojun. As one of my favorite eccentric Zen practitioner poets of Japan, I think he would suit that role nicely. ^^

Favorite clan, without a doubt. Favorite character was a holocaust survivor with a chip on his shoulder when it came to anyone abusing their power and bigots in general. Which led to his vice of committing elaborate, over the top, murders (Rube Goldberg meets Final Destination elaborate) of people who he thought abused their power. It was really enjoyable to play a character who wanted to help the less fortunate, but in the shadows would kill wantonly and without hesitation if he felt wronged or his vice kicked in. Made for some interesting sessions over the years. My all time favorite character, until he killed the wrong person and put to death for it. Apparently Venture get upset when you kill one of their own, even if the blue blood was a former Nazi general and deserved to die.

@Onionkid99 The entire idea of Chimerstry stems from one scene in the Lost Boys where I believe Keifer Sutherland makes a kid think he's looking at a bowl of maggots. One scene and a Discipline was born! I'm sure the Malk and the Ravnos were welcome in ever Prince's domain!

I like the more well rounded treatment in the revised edition clanbook, also the crimes of the beast are way more interesting than before. I am sick of people playing Ravnos as pickpockets or compulsory murderers. Chimestry is a very powerfull discipline indeed, but very costly with all the willpower points that go in it. You made the point of discrimination against them quite good. I also liked the different ideas that can be found in libellus sanguinus (insert right number) on them.

@rudolphantler63096 жыл бұрын
Two questions mateys! 01.) Is it possible to create a pnp character who is Ravnos by clan and disciplines, but has nothing to do with gypsies or Indians/Pakistanis whatsoever? Like, is there a fully European breed of Ravnos? 02.) Can Chimerstry be given to a vampire of a different clan?
@SchlossRitter6 жыл бұрын
@Rudolph 1. easy explanation is that the sire embraced an outsider for some reason then was destroyed before teaching of the culture 2. technically yes (depending on storyteller approval) but more expensive for non-clan as usual, and good luck finding a Ravnos willing to teach it
@rudolphantler63096 жыл бұрын
2. what is the highest level a non-ravnos can advance without clan guidance?
@SchlossRitter6 жыл бұрын
I don't remember there being a specific rule but want to say non-clan is limited to 5 dots (rather than 10 for in-clan and generic), but I could be thinking of something else. As for clan guidance, I was always under the impression that once you know the basics of a Discipline, further advancement is gained innately or by personal research. Again, with most Storytellers, you had better have an extensive backstory or story progression for the reason your character has access to another clan's special Discipline, even as a Caitiff/Pander. Many of these special Disciplines are closely tied to the different physiology and weakness of a clan, such as Malkavian Dementation and their Derangements. One might even go as far as requiring the character to take on an additional Weakness specific to that clan, like someone learning Dementation would gain a Derangement (and as a possible counterbalance might gain extra character creation points for taking it as another Flaw, within normal limits).

Watching these videos, especially on my favourite clan, has made me want to play VTM even more. Of course there's the fact I've never played a tabletop game, know of no one that has even heard of Vampire the Masquerade, nor do I know anyone that has ever even played so much as D&D. Watching this vid has got me thinking: the modern interpretation of the Joker. Especially the Nolan-verse version. He'd be a far better candidate for the Ravnos than the Malkavians, in a sense. Clan Ravnos, I have often contemplated on this clan. When can one play a Ravnos? Modern nights? Camarilla game? Sabbat game? When? Nobody wants them around, nobody trusts them, they move around all the time. What is the point of having this clan in the game? Is this clan viable for a player to play? Or is it merely an NPC only clan?

Poor Ravnos, saddled with such harsh disciplines, at least before dot 6. Fortitude: The worst of the physical disciplines. Animalism: Terrible before elder powers and only "okay" even after that. Chimerstry: Sooooo painfully expensive before dot 6 (and sooo stupid good at/after dot 6 - but will you ever see dot 6? Highly unlikely).
@SchlossRitter6 жыл бұрын
@sean, idk re: Fortitude being worst, the unique ability to soak some aggravated damage kinda trumps effectively just adding more dots of strength with Potence alone (granted that does have synergy with other things like Claws, so you may have me there)
@jamescollins20686 жыл бұрын
You clearly underestimate the value of animalism. Just having animalism makes you acceptable to animals unlike any other undead. Above that, being able to communicate telepathically with them gives you access to a communication/spying network the "high born" clans often don't even realize exists. Animalism also gives you more understanding and control over that thing that all Caineites fear, the beast. Such power is invaluable especially in the final nights when one frenzy at the wrong time has ,at the very least, the potential to have you marked for execution or, at its greatest, completely shatter the fragile mask all immortals must maintain if we hope to survive these most dangerous of times.
