I was in a Gepard Unit back in the 90s. Its basically a Leopard 1 with a different turret, hence the weight. Its also true with the 40 APDS for emergency ground Combat. However in reality you dont fire so but you use either 3 or 5 rounds per shoot. As long your target Computer works you get at least 1 round in the 2 Meter circle around target. Also Gepard was mainly against Helicopters, Rolands we're against Low/middle high Planes and usually a Gepard and Roland worked as a Team directly behind your tanks

If you check out xray, there is an inner belt that comes from the lower turret and an outer belt that is stored near the breaches. That is the case in some other AAs as well. SIDAM,Chieftain Marksman, Type 87... AA guns without double feed generally use mixed belts, like Falcon uses a belt with 1/4 APDS rounds.

Fun fact that I just found out The same people that built the f-84 also built the alouette, meaning if you play germany and somehow shoot down an f-84 or get shot down by one, then a vehicle produced in a factory shot down a vehicle produced in that same factory.

I checked, the Gepard gets 320 units of ammo PER WEAPON, so 640 in total. This amount was considered enough to fight up to 25 air targets as the Gepard usually does not fight as an individual vehicle but as part of a unit with others. So, this little amount of ammo is actually very generous of Gaijin to give you.

Hey Phly! Yes about the 40 rounds "clips" it is realistic and actually modeled in War Thunder. If you go into the x-ray view of the Gepard, there is a second feed system/ammo storage on the outer side of the 35mm gun breech where the 40 rounds clips were located whereas the 600 rounds magazine was located on the hull. And this is how the Gepard and other autocannon that uses dual feed system can change between belts almost instantly. Anyway nice vid! Have a great day man keep it up

It really seems like allied mains can do all types of dumb shit with the vast amount of different tanks they get but once a axis main (usually German) does they same thing with the 3 vehicles they get, it’s all of a sudden a power creep and the Germans are too op.

I actually recently brought back Gepard into 10.7 matches. It's so much more effective against low flying helis in the beginning of the match than FlaRakPz or EuroTruck.

Hey Phly to answer your question, yes the Gepard only carried 2 20 round belts, they were typically APDS. Designed for an AA role the Tank museum has a good gepard tank chat. Recommend it

yea it really worked like that, each gun had a small 20 round mag (2 guns so 40 rounds) with the sabots in for as a last line of self defense

A fun thing to do is use the VEAK and only fire once at a plane really far away in a straight line. They won't see it and it takes out the tail control about 75% of the time

War thunder is more fun with people, but sadly, I have no one to play with.

I accidentally got into a high BR match because of my planes. I meant to get into an ARB match and not GRB. Anyway, I was able to sneak all the way around the map with my lower Sherman and killed a Gepard a few minutes before the match ended.

If you look closely in x-ray you can see small clips for apds in gepard, just load only apds and check it out.

You should take out the AMX-13 SS 11. I have gotten some weird ricochets on it because of volumetric where the missiles are at. I’ve even bounced 88 multiple times and other shells that are supposed to knock me out, it’s funny.

Heyho Phly, You asked about something at 17:12. If it is realistic that the Gepard has 1 640x rounds Mag and 1 40x rounds Mag. And yeah, thats pretty realistic. Because in reality every gun on this thing can be operated in single mode as well. You dont have to always use both guns at the same time. That lead to the decision, that every gun got it`s very own ammo belt. These things were able to load up, up to 320 rounds per gun so 640 in total. And these big ammo belts were pretty much exclusively designed for the AA ammo. But in the midst of the development of this thing the german army also wanted to have at least "some" Anti-Armor options on the Gepard. So "Kraus-Maffei-Wegemann" (the company producing the Gepards) already had a pretty much finished pruduct at hand with no ability to change ammo types. So the only way to implement the requested Anti-Armor capabilities was to add small unarmored ammo boxes at the side of the guns. These are the little buldges you can see left and right of the guns in game. And well... each of these boxes were able to hold 20 rounds of Anti-Armor ammo each. so thats where the little 40 rounds clip comes from. Hope it`s kinda understandable what I`m trying to say, english is not my first language. Anyway... Hope you have a Phantastic Phriday ;)
