A damned good doctor. He gave them what they really needed, the chance to vent openly and honestly. He recognized that they really did want to stay together, so he used some reverse psychology on them and let them come to their own realization and decide to stay together.

I liked Dr. Ashley; he was informative and helpful in treating the four ladies with their problems while being ironically funny ("Shut up, Rose!"). If there was any minor "Golden Girls" character that should have had their own spin-off show, I'd nominate this psychiatrist. "Shrink" probably would have been a good title!

That was my take too, FLguy, of course I doubted this would be the end of the show. But they opened up alright! I don’t think they would normally let t🎉heir feelings out quite that much. Some therapists are good at allowing their clients to open up like that. Everyone was revealing themselves. It was wonderful to hear Rose stand up to Dorothy so forcefully. I have every once in a while felt that Rose was occasionally getting hit too hard and surely must be feeling very bad. My heart would go out to her at those times.

It’s a comedy. Nobody in the show would usually talk like this in general with anyone. Nobody makes a quip every other second to everyone you interact with. Besides usually therapy isn’t simply handled in 1 session that only lasts less then 10 minutes.

The "head shrinker" bit is one of the show's most memorable scenes. The whole thing took place in only one room, and the comedy doesn't depend on a single prop or any form of physicality to help enhance it's comedic value. The entire bit relies solely on the dialogue and their extraordinary ability to deliver that dialogue. What these girls do in this scene is nothing short of remarkable. It really highlights their individual talent, but even more so it showcases the brilliant chemistry that naturally unfolds the very moment these four talented performers join forces. 💛

Actually Dorothy was right the solution was trying to be more tolerating of your roommates unless violence of some kind is involved giving up wouldn't be the answer as no matter where you move or if you find new roommates. There will always be something about that person that annoys you. Also you might end up with someone worse then your old roommate . but the women work things out in the end

@@spiceupyourlife7755 It's a perfectly designed moment for the character. It highlights Blanche's pettiness, vanity, and propensity to put others down to elevate herself. At the same time, Rose is nearly deserving of the criticism, which gives Blanche's malice its needed comic edge.

What’s interesting here is that they might’ve been using this episode as a platform for helping them realize just how much they mean to each other as friends and people. Even if Bea still held a grudge with people like Betty, you can’t help but think about how would they become who they are if they never met.

That's Betty White's words against Bea's and unfortunately Betty made that comment right after Bea died when Bea could no longer defend herself.

@@jandreidrn But Rue backed it up. When Rue's husband first met Bea at a party, Bea told him that she thought Betty was a cunt. Also if you watch the bloopers, Betty points out Bea messing up, and Bea doesn't look too pleased about it.

@@Hutchins24Wiccan "While Betty's on-set antics reportedly annoyed Bea, the duo didn’t have the massive feud that has been so heavily reported. Rue once explained that Bea often refused to go to lunch unless Betty was ready to go. They ate together often and sat with each other during dinners, too. Bea's son, Matthew Saks, revealed that Bea and Betty were friends. He told The Hollywood Reporter that the two often commuted to the set of The Golden Girls together. He said, “there was no fighting at all. They were friends. At one point, they lived close enough that they would drive each other to work.” Saks did admit that Bea was irritated by Betty on occasions, but he chalked that up to his mother’s personality and their differing approaches to acting. Saks once said his mother thought it was “fun” to have someone to be angry with. That was easy for her to do with Betty because they had different personalities and approached acting in completely different ways. Still, the two maintained a cordial relationship off set. Rue seemed to agree when asked about Bea and Betty's feud. Rue explained that Betty and Bea's relationship wasn’t all that she had hoped it would be, but the rivalry was largely confined to the set. Calling Bea “eccentric,” Rue explained that Bea was simply particular about her job." Also Rue repeated that c*nt story at Bea's memorial at the Majestic Theater and it reportedly brought down the house, especially since it followed a far more serious story Rue told about how Bea comforted her after her mother died. But the question is: is it really right for Rue to wait till Bea dies before she rats out a private remark she made? Didn’t she leave it out of her book and wait till now to tell it because, alive, Bea wouldn’t have liked it being served to crowds and publications? Is it really right to spill the beans on someone’s private thoughts at their own memorial?

@@jandreidrn I agree. I love both Betty and Rue, but to trash Bea like that after her death is quite low.
