I just got one of these for my first Elmax. What I didn't know until now is that UV light from my Arkfield Pro lights it up instantly at max brightness vs standard white light. Pretty cool to see.

Good to know! I’m curious, did you have issues with your bearings being gritty/maybe it’s the detent being too stiff? The action is sometimes perfectly fine and then will get really bad randomly… 🤔

@@brevanmcclellan6235 No issue with bearings. Blade falls smoothly. Only criticism I have of the action would be that the placement and shape of the thumb studs is not optimal for the "Spidey flick". The detent may be a factor in that but it's perfect for the thumb flick. This is only my second frame lock with thumb studs though so I am still learning where to place my fingers so as not to put pressure on the lock bar. I was spoiled by axis locks at an early age working for Benchmade almost 20 years ago.

@@jasonbruchmiller4580I think that’s the issue I’m running into. The only other frame lock I have is a flipper, so it’s easier to get it flipped out. If I have my fingers anywhere on that lock for the Penguin, it makes it SUPER difficult to clear the detent… might be my only gripe

how likely do half stops fail? Having a knife snapping towards my fingies like that scares me

Never; in order for it to fall past the half stop position, deliberate/intentional pressure must be given to the blade spine in order for it to overcome the spring. Imagine the necessary pressure it takes when the knife is completely open to then push the blade into the half stop position (knife is open at 180 degrees, then you close it to half stop at 90 degrees), well that same amount of pressure it took for you to put it in that position will basically be identical for it to finish from half stop to close. It will never accidentally fail on you; your hand(s) would have to be causing the pressure for it to close on your fingers.

Are ballistic knives legal in Kansas? Just out of curiosity... I recently picked one up (one of the classic Russian types from the 1980s with the super heavy spring). Between that, all my various OTFs, Italian switchblades, balisongs/butterflies, daggers, etc I think I now own at least one of every single "illegal" knife known to man. I'm lucky to live where I don't have to worry about that stuff, but I feel so bad for people in places like the UK where you can literally be arrested just for having a locking knife, or any blade longer than 3 inches. Even a lot of the laws here in the US are insane, cf; length limits, bans on daggers AKA double-edged blades, etc. Ironically even Canada has better knife legislation than many states believe it or not! Up there there's no length limits whatsoever, nor any limits on daggers, or where you can carry a knife... The bad parts are that all automatics and balisongs are illegal, and it's illegal to carry a knife for self defense (whether or not your knife is intended for that purpose is up to officer discretion -- although my Canuck friends tell me unless you're an obvious thug or being an idiot with your knife in public, generally cops will leave you alone). Contrast with places like London, UK where my Limey friends tell me police will hassle people over items as innocuous as 1" keychain slipjoints, or laborers carrying "blades" like trowels and scrapers. Insanity. I just never understood the logic behind the whole moral panic over Bowie knives, double-edged knives, switchblades (literally just a knife that opens one handed, who cares???) and so on. Like all the SBR and "assault weapon" bans with firearms, these are prime examples of ignorant leftist politicians and activists legislating on things based on aesthetics and their feelings.
