I always assumed that I checked all the boxes and did all the things necessary when it comes to brakes on project vehicles. But the GMC just proved to me that if you neglect the details, it will come back to hurt you.

Two things on a car that people neglect the rear end oil and brakes lines and fluid...there is a two year brake fliud change interval on most cars I have never bought a used car that was kept up on when it comes to brake fluid changes... but all my cars get flushed every two years... As long as you have a dual circut master cylinder and a operational emergency brake your pretty safe but again those are items people ignore untill its to late.

For sure. And on a 53 year old farm truck, it’s had a lot of years of neglect to contend with.

The older the vehicle, the more it’s going to force me to really inspect brake lines. But I guess none of us are getting any younger!

Same thing happened to me recently on a 50 year old Dodge. Clean car, no rust, still has original undercoating, brake lines looked fine. I touched the rear line to move it and it sprung a leak, same same. I could have bought the replacement brake line kit or installed stainless but I decided to go with NI-COP which are nickel/copper purchased right from AutoZone. Throw your pipe bender into the trash because you won't need it ever again. You can bend these lines into the most creative forms imaginable with your hands and they will look neater than factory. They also double flare like butter and will never rott. Food for thought👍💯

Steel lines are cheap. About 10 years ago I had my GF's 94 Taurus on the lift at my dad's. At the time alot of 90's cars here in IL were eating through the steel lines. Anyway, the same thing happened so I "saw red" and ripped every single line after the proportioning valve off. Put all new lines and hoses on it to all 4 corners.......I slept good after that.

My dad wouldn’t let me build anything till I did the brakes. Back then though, the muscle car era was only 15-18 years old and brakes was just that. Now it’s 50+ years ago and I guess I’d better strongly consider just including brake lines in every job.

Had a 1966 Chevy pu and did what you did when I first got it but when I was done I hit the pedal like I was stoping with a 20,000lb trailer and blew a flex line on the front. I put new wheel cylinders on my El Camino and forgot to bleed them drove it for three years before I realized that.

@@MuscleCarSolutions I had a 72 GMC with disk in the front non power and I had a 70 and it had power with drums all around. Thanks for telling me about the Chevelle I'm definitely going with the upgrade now. I'm the one who got the 600 Holley with the JB weld in the air cleaner hole. Second comment just barely into the video. The same exact thing happened with my car. In the process of removing the upper ball joint on the sixty five I tapped the break hose and it instantly crushed. I'm guessing internally it was fried but externally it looks great. Better in the garage than on the road right?

I dont understand KZfaq. I have been super busy the last 2 months. I was messing with KZfaq and thought to myself for a second. Why haven't I seen anything from muscle car solutions since the sale? I wasn't even subscribed to you! I got a lot of catching up to do. Funny I just did the front disk swap this weekend...

@andrewforster4974 I wonder if mine would pass a visual inspection. I think it would have, but one tap and the hose collapsed. I'm sure eventually on the road it would have gave way. I bled the brakes and function.Checked them and everything appeared okay., and on the road was fine. It was definitely a ticking time bomb.

You are being a little dramatic. These trucks have a dual circuit brake system. If you lose all the fluid for the front brakes, the rear will still work & vice versa. I’ve had it happen more than once on my 1969 c10. Still made it home. Even after boiling the fluid out of the rear circuit with new 1 & 3/4” headman headers once… Still made it home.
