It's the rigorous preparation like this that makes Coppola one of the greatest--if not THE greatest--filmmaker of all time. A huge inspiration to me.

His great dissecting, attention to detail, hours of painstaking research and great production, amazing actors-- is what makes The Godfather the best movie of all time. Francis is amazing.

Gosh! what an eye for detail and how much attention he has paid to detail! who says perfection cannot be attained...! The movie (can say the trilogy itself) is just perfect...everything...everyone in the picture tells the story. Godfather - the book and the movies are a socio-economic-literary-cinematic metaphor for america that transitioned from a land of aborigines, then settlers, then decimators of the aborigines, then all sorts of outsiders who converted life on the soil of the americas to a lifestyle...skyscrapers et al... Those who made movies after the likes of the great Mr Coppola never learnt these lessons (loved the way mr Coppola pays credit to Mr Kazan for these directorial procesess...). Hats off to Mr FFC! you made 3 great movies to be sure.

PS. Just how much effort he took to prevent Paramont ruining this picture every step of the way, lol! (on Brando, Pacino, 40's shooting, etc.)

@iamductri Actually, The Godfather served as a metaphor for Capitalism, POLITICS (or power/influence), and the loss of innocence...Though when you've watched the movie trilogy many a time, you'll start to realize that the main concept behind the novel as well as the films is both Capitalism and Power.

I wish they made this into a coffee table book like Kurt Cobain's journal, as a guy that likes the process of script writing & movie making I would love to own that book.

One thing I dont get is how he took out the trial in the begining and just have the guy talking about it, genius! And in the book, the Don aint not in an office.

@Snako85 The Godfather novel and films were NOT MEANT TO PORTRAY THE MAFIA. The novel and films purpose were to voice and visually tell the story of a powerful family and the dangerous realm they lived in and were happy in. It was to portray CAPITALISM, POWER, POLITICS, and the loss of innocence. It was not to portray the mafia.

lmao I wonder if Michael Bay did this with Transformers 2. The difference between an artist like this and someone like Bay shows how far we've strayed in what film should be. Sad really, you can see the passion he has for telling a story just in the size of his notebook.
