I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that retouches the solder joints on the top side of the board. It drives me crazy when I see those pads on top with a shallow dab of solder that doesn't make a little solder mountain with the part leg.

There are a dozen of us who care about things that NO ONE will ever see. I know the connection on the bottom will work fine, but I insist on making sure it is uniform on every pad.

Lovely build Joe. I looked up those golden caps and see they're specifically intended for audio applications, though I guess this very much depends on where they sit in the signal path. There's a video idea anyway, what's important to think about when specifying electrolytics, and do the newer polymer electrolytics make any sense for guitar pedals? The promise of ultra low ESR and nothing to dry out certainly seems appealing!

Is there a reason why you solder from both sides? I've never done this before. Also what's type of ... Clamp... Did you use to hold the PCB in place? Thank you for the content

Ideally the solder flows to both sides of the PCB and makes nice filets of solder on both pads, but this depends a lot on the size of the holes, gauge of the leads, etc. It's mostly just for aesthetics, older PCBs will often only have copper on one side.
