I am so thankful for your videos, especially for high school level! This is our first year homeschooling and I will have a 9th grader doing TGATB High School 1 next year. With him being my oldest, I was pretty intimidated to homeschool throughout the high school years. But your videos have been so helpful and put my mind at ease.

I'm impressed to see spelling and vocabulary in the high school courses. Most programs I've seen end those with 7th or 8th grade. I love that The Good and The Beautiful continues it throughout. The writing assignments look fantastic too!

The grammar and vocabulary have made my daughter a better writer. And the vocabulary was a huge benefit when she took the SAT.

I am finding all of your videos so helpful. I will be homeschooling for the first time this Fall and my son is entering the 10th grade. Everything seems overwhelming when first starting to homeschool, especially for high school. However, you explain things so well, which makes it a little less overwhelming. @@simplejoyfilledliving I only have one little recommendation and is to get glasses to block the blue light when she uses the laptop or any devise. I got some for my kids and I have something similar on my own glasses. I feel that they do help🌸

I just found “Excellence in Literature curriculum.” I wish you had seen that before. They have all we want for high school separated into American, British, and World literature with an honors track each. The author just updated the program. They also have 2 extra years initially but it’s ok to do it the way we want based on what they claim. I’m so thankful to you for giving us the heads up about what to expect for high school.

I've been very interested in TGTB for high school Language Arts for our daughter. We've used it for a couple of years in the lower grades. This Fall she will be 9th grade level, and this video just solidified my decision to continue with it.

We do the art as an optional activity and my kids have leftover art from previous levels and I don’t mind if they do it or leave it. I like the idea of doing extra reading when not doing the units. I love the idea of making an assignment of part of the unit!!!

Yes, I agree. But the good thing is that you have a lot of flexibility with what you want included each day. Using Homeschool Planet, I can schedule a whole unit in about 10 minutes.

We're doing level 1 right now and are really enjoying the rich vocabulary and all the integrated subjects. It makes me feel like we're getting a Great Books education or Omnibus without doing some heavy duty classical program that takes up all our day. At least that's what it feel like to me. What are y'all going to use next year?

I love that description and completely agree! We had planned to do year 4 but since they decided not to move forward with it, our new plan is dual enrollment for English. I do think she is well prepared for it using TG&TB.

Love this! We’re on Unit 9 in Year 1. I love how you “chunk” the assignments. I haven’t thought about that before. We take about 3 weeks to finish, but it’s ok. I do have a question: does Year 2 & 3 cover any Shakespeare? Is that necessary for college?

I had to add Shakespeare. They did add plays but no Shakespeare. I do think it is expected for college to have some familiarity with the work of Shakespeare.

Great video! We are getting ready to do year 1 in the fall and this really helped to get a glimpse! Do you always read the sentences to her? I saw that there is an option to listen to them on the website. Also, were you more hands on in year one? For example, did you read aloud with her or read the assigned reading with her?

Yes I have always read them but you could also play the reading. I was probably more hands on with unit 1 of Year 1 since it was new, and if she asks questions I help, but mostly it is independent like most high school work is meant to be.

So one question I see coming up a lot about this high school curriculum is how is it for writing? I purchased the level 1 for my up and coming high schooler and it’s hard to tell. We’ve done IEW and Lost Tools through classical conversations. So I know we’ll probably be drawing upon that last experience. But should I have those checklists available as my son writes papers? Or does TGATB also provide the guidance for the “structure” of writing? I see they have or may have an actual writing course. So it makes me wonder.

I like TG&TB for writing. When they introduce something new it is very step by step. I also love that they cover many types of writing other than just persuasive like Lost Tools of Writing. Their writing and Grammar Guide is very helpful. We didn’t need to use any writing checklists from CC when we started using TG&TB.

My daughter is using the 7th level TGTB language arts curriculum. We planning to jump to high school year one. My question is, do you think we should do the other 2 curriculums (IEW and The lost Tool for Writing) you did or it will be fine for her to skip them? My daughter is very good at writing, we did Easy Least for many years and she was required to write a lot, including biographie, poems, letters, essays, a short book, stories focused in dialogues, etc. Another question, are Honor classes really important? Some of the extra books that you chose for K my daughter has already read, reading is one of her hobbies and Easy Peasy has introduced her to many classic that are on the TGTB curriculum. Thanks for all the videos. I found you when looking up about transcripts 3 days ago and I'm almost done with the 38 videos you have on the playlists for high school 🥴😂

I don’t see a need to supplement TG&TB especially if she’s a good writer. Honors courses are definitely not required. They can be used for college bound students that need an extra challenge, and the benefit is the GPA boost that is generally given to honors level courses. I recommend dual enrollment over honors by the junior year though because the gpa boost is higher and it saves money on college courses.

Definitely you can! We didn’t need them. I would count hours and give credits that way. 75 hours= 1/2 credit and 150 hours= 1 credit. This way you can combine multiple years.

We did dual enrollment for 12th grade but HS year 3 would be my choice if you want to use TG&TB since it includes test essay skills and business writing.

@@simplejoyfilledliving thanks! I actually decided to get all 3 and use level one as the base for the extra grammar it seems to have over the other 2 levels. Then I'll change out the writing assignments with the ones in levels 2&3 as I see fit. I will be using them for future children so this works out for me. I didn't have this idea until recently but think it'll work out good!

She spends 30 minutes to an hour daily depending on the assignment. She has enjoyed some of the books more than others, and some she really liked.

I really like the writing guide used in TG&TB high school language arts. She wants to do something in business and has an interest in real estate.

Since they only made 3 years, you could still start with year 1.

This looks like an excellent and fun curriculum to learn with. I pray TG&TB is still around and as good (if not better) when my Kindergartener gets to high school. 😀 Please don't take this the wrong way because I'm really just curious: Did Katie take any Typing class or are you guys putting it off for college? I learned touch typing in college but I somehow thought it's required for middle/high school now. I guess it's optional, like Cursive?

She wasn’t required to take it in SC. They do require a basic computer literacy course and she’s taking that this year. She types quickly but it is her own way, not the way you learn in typing class.

We started with TG&TB Year 1 in 9th and did one each year through 11th. Next year we plan to dual enroll for English.

Www.quizlet.com is a website that lets you create online flash cards or use cards created by others. You can create the cards, study then, print them out, or play games using the cards. It’s free and a great tool for high schoolers and middle schoolers.
