so happy I found this video as you said you’re a first time homeschooler. It’ll be my sons first year and was going to start here since it seems easy open and go. I wanted to try abeka but all the books just overwhelm me and I don’t want to stress myself out for my first year either lol

I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work for you. We had the opposite experience. We found it to be a very strong phonics program. Maybe my daughter just didn’t need as much repetition to retain it. But I like that we spent a good few days on a phonogram and then learned another. And I also liked how they kept spiraling back to the previously learned phonograms. It was very structured and sequential to us.

I totally agree with you. We haven’t found this program to be a strong phonics/reading program. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and happy to be able to connect here!

We came from TGATB to Abeka and I will not go back. TGATB is not enough for my kids or for me to be satisfied. The spelling is all over the place, they push grammar too early, and their phonics is very all over the place. As much as I wanted to love it, I don’t and I won’t go back to them. We are sticking with Abeka for now, and doing Math With Confidence and once one of those stop working I’ll look for something for their levels at that point.

I agree about the lack of phonics. I almost bought this, but went with Christian Light Education instead. It has a solid phonics base.
