As a kid I absolutely loved this show. I wore a homemade El Kabong Halloween costume every year until it no longer fit and I've been lmao at "I'll do the thinin around here Baba Looey" for 64 years. Saturday mornings used to be cartoon heaven, now it's nothing but college football pregame shows.

I miss Saturday morning cartoons. Kids back then were so spoiled and we didn't even realize it!

I'm a 90's kid, but I always liked the Hanna-Barbera stuff. My grandfather used to buy me VHS tapes of these cartoons (including Quick Draw) and I would watch them on CN back in the early days. When CN stopped playing them and moved them to Boomerang I had no way to see them until I got to college, because our cable company didn't carry Boomerang. Once I was able to watch it in my college dorm room, it felt like reuniting with old friends once I got to see these shows again. You can say what you want about how cheap the animation looks, but these cartoons still had heart put into them and it shows. A lot of the stuff they churn out today for kids feels like empty, mindless drivel compared to these older cartoons. I'm not saying all modern cartoons are bad, but the really good ones are few and far between. I really want to show Quick Draw and the other Hanna-Barbera stuff to my own kids one day. I hope they'll learn to appreciate it. -Dragoness.

Aw man, thanks so much for sharing this, for just a little bit, I felt like a kid, sitting there on the floor, cross legged, destroying my eyes watching cartoons on TV in a dark room. I may only be in my mid thirties, but these were my cartoons too! I grew up with these and it was absolutely disheartening to watch them slowly vanish off TV. Nobody did it like Hanna-Barbera did! I need to share these cartoons with my niece and nephew.

I'm assuming you watched them on Boomerang then? I watched them all through the late 70s on broadcast television and loved all the Hanna-Barbera stuff. Although their output in the late 70s was not as good as their 50s and 60s stuff. They did start to turn it back around in the 80s and the 90s was a nice surprise with new shows like Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab and PowerPuff girls renewing the spirit of HB alive. Sadly, I work mostly with 25-35 year olds who don't know much of any of the pop culture I grew up with and Saturday mornings didn't mean anything to them since they all had cable and 24 hour programming.

Although Baba Louie is named after a Desi Arnaz song (Babalu) the character is actually modeled after Pedro Gonzales Gonzales. He was on a couple of episodes of Wanted Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen, and in one of them Steve's looking for a sheep named Baa Baa. Watch it and you'll believe it.

My dad was in the Air Force, and once he took our whole family to the NCO Club for dinner. The sliding curtain between the dining area and the bar was open, and we could see all these NCOs in the bar, hovering over the TV set, watching Quick Draw McGraw and laughing themselves silly.

I have fond memories of watching these as a kid in the 1980's To showcase the reach of these cartoons and how popular they were......House Of Pain referenced these in "Shamrocks & Shenanigans" when Everlast famously rapped "I'm quick on the draw like that horse named McGraw from the cartoon....boom sha-lock-lock boom!"

This is the entire documentary. If you want the source it's on the Warner archives Saturday Morning DVD collection from a few years back. You can get it at Amazon for about $10-$12 or I saw them at $5 Below last year for, you guessed it, $5.
