This song also appeared on Marianne Faithfull's record 'Before the Poison'. Most of the other songs are played and written by PJ Harvey and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It's a fabulous album but for me the stand out track has always been this one. It caused me to totally reappraise Damon Albarn

Tony Allen is one of the most prominent drummers to come from Africa - land of the drum! - Wiki him and you'll see he is held in high esteem. His beats are awesome but very subtle, dude definitely has 'proper rhythm', way more interesting than yr standard backbeat found on most 'pop' music, it's just a bit harder to get yr head round.
