We take a peek at The Kalevala, a work synthesized from the oral folk tales of Finland, a work that inspired Tolkien so much that he copied it unreservedly, a work that merits countless appositions.
Also, a work that is excellent source material for pet names. Characters like "the Gap-toothed Hag of the North" and "Steady Old Väinämöinen, the Everlasting Wise Man" can easily be converted into names befitting the pets' traits: "the Gap-toothed Ciup of the North" or "Steady Old Bobertcita, The Everlasting Wise Cat".

I absolutely adore the Kalevala. The cold northern rural settings have become part of my dna. You told the story very beautifully and clearly. Lemminkainen's mother deserves similar treatment her tenacity to ressurect her foolish son is a fantastic tale.

Oh, I'd definitely love to cover Lemminkainen's story! Whenever I graduate and have more time, I'd be tempted to do a playlist going through each canto. It's all so good! Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks so much! I'm always super self-conscious, so that's encouraging to hear. I hope you find the book as delightful as I did!

Had I the time, I would have recorded it in locations referenced in the book, like in the top of a tree or floating ridiculously on the surface of the water. 😝

Thank you! Just to give a little context on me... I was taken the opening weekend of "Wizards" by my parents. My mother read to me all of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, before we went to see the animated "The Hobbit" in the theater! And I just turned 50 less than two weeks ago... So hearing of this title - has brought it on my list to get!

I will admit to having to look-up Wizards, but it's definitely on the watchlist now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I hope you enjoy The Kalevala as much as I did!
