Can't believe how competitive Nursing is in the US that they are still denying students from nursing school when there's a shortage
@mochabetty6 жыл бұрын
There’s no longer a shortage. Nursing schools have been pumping out RNs considerably these past 5 or so years.
@Marygeniusz136 жыл бұрын
its not really a shortage but more of a high demmand. there still is a high demmand, especailly here for me in Texas. Nurses are ALWAYS in need.
@hollystanislawski56805 жыл бұрын
Even though there’s a higher demand, it doesn’t mean they should lower the requirements. They still want quality people!
@soulsearch12344 жыл бұрын
@@mochabetty Dont know where u live but there is STILL a severe nursing shortage, projected to increase when the baby boomers retire
@nickv55763 жыл бұрын
The problem is that if there’s a shortage, there are less instructors available. They don’t want the nursing programs to have bad student to instructor ratios.

And what I noticed before being accepted into a BSN program was that every school’s curriculum is slightly different from another so since I applied to multiple programs I ended up taking a lot of additional prerequisite courses based off of each school’s curriculum that I applied upon entrance.
@beabedonia86653 жыл бұрын
True, I realized that too when I was looking at their prereqs. Nursing programs are so competitive everywhere so they can pretty much raise the criteria/ standard that they want since they have a lot of prospective applicants

I’m a college freshman in California, and from what I heard from my first-year orientation about getting into nursing program sounded so rigorous! We need a 4.0 GPA from all nursing requirement courses (pre-requisites, co-requisites, electives (I believe)) and at least a 90% TEAS score! These, including clinical volunteering hours, adds up points that can grant us to the nursing program. I’m not sure how students are able to balance their school life and social life. I hate being too busy with my studies because I wouldn’t be able to enjoy college overall. Now that it’s quarantine, online classes are going to suck .-.

Canadian ABScN student here. Kaynen is right! In Canada you can enter nursing school straight from high school (you just have to get 90s on Grade 12 Bio, Chem, Math, English + two other Grade 12 subjects to get in). This type BScN program takes 4 years to complete. We also have accelerated BScN programs for students with at least 2 yrs of university education. Getting into these programs is more complicated since their prerequisites differ depending on the institution (some ABScN programs require a university-level Microbiology course, some don't. Some require a personality test, some don't). Most of the people who get accepted in these programs have already completed a full degree. ABScN programs usually take 2 full years. I had thought about going to school in the US (especially because my dad recently moved to Nevada for work). I actually looked at Nevada State College but they require some other stuff I've never heard of (e.g., TEAS test). I chose to do my studies here bc I was already set to apply to the uni I've been aiming for and didn't wanna stress my self out satisfying other prereqs.

Imagine your one anatomy class’s grading scale...but that’s your entire nursing school program’s grading scale. I feel your pain, How much I hated seeing 92% (B+) or 94% (A-). Future Grad school prospects definitely taking a hit

Hello, what do you think about west coast university for nursing school? I have quite a bit of my general Ed courses done ... currently finishing up my last few classes before I’m able to start applying for nursing schools. Btw love your videos!
@christinaj.71134 жыл бұрын
In ireland our school system is pretty different. So to get into university we do 9 subjects and they choose your best 6. And for for instance you get 50-59 percent in the state exams at the end of the school year that's 56 points or 90-100 percent that's 100 points. Then they add up our best 6 subjects. The courses/major we want have specific points. So if I wanted to do nursing that's 442 points. So I need to do do well in 5 subjects. The highest points is 625 and that's if you want to do medicine/med school

Hi ! I am a senior and about to graduate from highschool my plan is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Would you suggest that I go to a community college for the first 2 years before the nursing program or just go straight to a University for BSN ? :)))
@kaynenbrown51026 жыл бұрын
Aireona Kennedy Hello! Great question, I’m happy to give you my opinion. If I was in your shoes, I would go to the university that you want to receive your BSN from and make sure you get a paper that tells you all of the 2 years of prerequisite classes you need in order to apply to their school. Then I would attend the community college for two years taking all of those classes and after I am finished, apply to the university. That will save you the most money:). Many students here where I’m from did that and it’s very smart seeing they’re paying less than half to take prerequisites whereas others are paying much more all to end up in the same place after two years haha.

Hey, My second semester of pre nursing is about to end and I know you said having the minimum gpa does not mean your guaranteed acceptance. So I was wondering what I could do to become a strong applicant. I’m 19 and school is my main focus and I don’t have any job experience, just a few unrelated volunteer experiences. And I can’t tell if not having experience will hinder me or help me. The only upside is i have no lower than a b in any of my classes. Thanks in advance. 😁

1. Join extracurricular activities relating to nursing like volunteer in hospital, help with your schools blood drive, nurse shadowing etc. 2. Start looking at scholarships it’s never too early to apply. 3. Keep up with your classes in high school it’s very easy to get side track from your goal of getting a 4.0 so join ap classes if you can to boost that gpa!

Is it true that Male nurses get accepted into nursing school easier? I have also heard that Male nurses get paid more than females as well. I was wondering as male nurses are always in demand, and needed.
@jetlirlajqi69772 жыл бұрын
i feel like financially, males get accepted more and have more of a benefit than females. but social wise at least in my family a man who is a nurse is considered either gay, feminine, or lazy because they didnt want to be a doctor. its all so stupid tbh.

Should I take my nursing in a university or community college, like take my ADN then get my BSN Or do my pre-req in community college then transfer to a university to do my nursing ?? IT WILL REALLY HELP to get your point of view thanks!
@kaynenbrown51026 жыл бұрын
PI86 Both routes are just fine seeing they will both place you where you want to be! If I was in your shoes, I would do the prerequisites at the community college and then apply to the universities BSN program and finish up in another two years. Hospitals are starting to want graduates with BSN degree’s, so if you can do it(I’m not sure your family or financial situation) then get the highest degree possible right out of the gate.
@lilas.50606 жыл бұрын
If your professor graded like that, why did you take him for A&P 1, A&P 2, and micro? You would’ve basically been a 4.0 student if he didn’t grade like that (Which I find dumb).
