So you don't have a 4.0 GPA and are preparing your application for CRNA school. It's okay, plenty of people get into anesthesia school without having a 4.0 overall GPA. Let's talk about how you can get in with a less than stellar GPA.

Thanks for that, gave me a little more confidence that there is a chance for myself. GPA definately isn't a good indicator of a good nurse. I've met plenty of nurses with "3.9" GPA's but have no idea how to apply in practice what they studied for.

Your advice is so on point. I had A's in all the science courses so my school didn't even ask me about the B's I had in some of the nursing courses.

Getting quality experience through years worked, maximizing your leadership opportunities, and having a decent gre score are keys to getting into crna school if you have a less than optimal gpa. I was able to get in to a great school with a 3.1 gpa but had 7 years of icu experience in an icu that took care of everything aside from trauma and cabg patients. I know most people want to get in ASAP...but if you maximize experience through years worked that is more money you can save and less loans you have to take out. Also establishing a great rapport with your coworkers, managers, and docs is a great key too that will help tremendously with letters of recommendation.

Thank you so much for making this video! I graduated undergrad with no direction and no real motivation and let life struggles get the better of me so I only have a 3.08 from my first bachelors program. I decided to go back to nursing school and got a 4.0 my first two terms and looking at some A- term 3 (our school's hardest term) so I'm hoping this will show admissions committees that once I have a direction I am able to commit 100% and be successful regardless of what life is throwing at me. I still plan to take some graduate level science classes to make up for the science classes I didn't do so hot in (I have some C's and D's it's not pretty). But one of the classes I got a C and D in (O Chem 1 and 2) I am still in touch with the professor and he has written letters of recommendation for me because he knows the type of student I am wasn't reflected in my grades. Do you think CRNA is still doable for me?

Thanks for this video, taking a medical physiology course now. I wasn’t motivated in my undergrad to be that person who strives for an ‘A’ until I wanted to go for CRNA years later. Definitely had to change my mindset significantly. But, where there’s a will there’s a way :)

Hello, before you applied for the CRNA school as a travel nurse, have you stayed in one hospital for a longtime or did you just have your normal contracts and kept moving around?

Question, do CRNA schools look at your nursing GPA e.g what you got in fundamentals, health assessment, etc or your science GPA e.g patho, A&P, Micro, etc.?

Hello! So I am currently about to finish up my RN-BSN program with a 4.0, my ADN gpa was 3.3 and my science courses were honestly all over the place for example. I got A’s in physics 1 and Microbiology, then proceeded to get B’s in all my other science courses except Chem 1 which was a C. My overall GPA isn’t terrible right at a 3.5 However when I was young at the start of my college career I had no real direction and was working no less then 48hrs a week. I have no problem going back and retaking all my science courses if I know for a fact if I make A’s the opportunity for CRNA school will open for me. Honest opinion though, do the CRNA programs really see people that go back and retake classes as competitive?

Hi there, great videos! Do you need current icu experience? I worked in the ICU for 3 years, went to PACU and realized after working with CRNAs that this what I want to do. Do I need to go back to the ICU?

Can you talk about what is more preferable sconce courses from community college or from University? I want to take the science prerequisites at a community college and transfer to a BSN at a university level because it’s so move cheaper. How do CRNA programs look at sconce classes from Community college vs university ?
@BoltCRNA
@BoltCRNA 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it makes a huge difference but if you're splitting hairs the university courses may be seen in a better light. There are definitely SRNAs who took some prerequisite courses at a community college.

What about people with prior degrees? Nursing is my second career. My first degree, my GPA was less than 3.0. Was young, didn’t go to class, etc. Fast forward to today, 17 years later. I got 4.0 in all nursing school prereqs, 3.9 in nursing school, 2 years CVICU exp @ 24 bed trauma 1 unit, and CCRN. I feel like I still don’t have a shot at CRNA school because of my prior degree 17 years ago. When other people say “low GPA” they’re always talking about 3.0-3.5. It’s never in the 2s. Is there even a remote chance that I could get in or should I not even bother and just go for NP school?
@BoltCRNA
@BoltCRNA 4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they don't look at your GPA from 17 years ago when you have recent grades of a 4.0.

I would let it be if you have A's in all your other sciences. If you interview and don't get in, then retake it and make an A.

I did a second degree program which led to a BSN in 16 months. I had to work during my program which affected my gpa...my BSN gpa is a 2.96...I know it’s bad but I had to work and it was an accelerated course. My first degree was a 3.58. I don’t know what to do looking for advice. Currently working in a CVICU

What did you end up doing? I am in the same boat except I am doing my BSN in 2.5 years and my GPA is slightly lower than yours but easily on the upwards trend as I am starting to pull more A's and B's. Will be starting in Trauma 1 ED and plan to transfer to an ICU after a year or so.

What’s your opinion on admission boards even considering nursing GPA? Aside from pathophysiology and pharmacology, nursing schools are completely ass backwards and getting a 4.0 is unrealistic. Most programs have a 93% cutoff for an A- which is a 3.7 GPA. I think that hard science courses taught by PhD professors are a better indicator for academic success. These nursing courses are taught by subpar nursing instructors who only care about their board pass rates with an attrition rate of 60%.
