We visit the spring auction at Scott Implement!
Scott Implement is in Wisconsin, and sells Farm equipment on auction once a year! Many deals on tractors and hay and tillage equipment are to be found!

How Farms Work is a KZfaq channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. Our videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and GMO crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

I loved going to auctions in the 60's with my dad. As far as the Massy is concerned I think caution is the better part of valor. I love you videos and always wait for the new ones. Keep up the good work. Mark

Hey Ryan, if you're interested in going to more auctions like that. Hennessy Implement in Dodgeville holds auctions every third Thursday on every even month. The next auction is April 19th.

the difference between a dealer price and auction price is the difference between what someone thinks a piece of equipment is worth and what a farmer is really willing to pay.

Ryan, I had to restart this video twice because of the way you started it. putting that duct tape on the collapsed bin cracked me up. that was a great LOL for those of us who watched the video about that bin problem. Great to see you with Travis. I really enjoyed how you took the time to edit in the prices things actually sold for. the song was a prefect selection, almost as good as the video you did with the song Daddy won't Sell the Farm. we know the reason you got 131K plus subscribers so keep on doing these great well thought out videos. thanks Ryan.

My grandpa told the story that he went to an auction, scratched his nose and bought an iron. Not sure if it ever happened, but I always remember that when I get to an auction.

Consignment Auctions are a learning experience to see what value exists. Not always a good deal vs. farmer sales. In due time Ryan and Travis will obtain equipment.

Great video, i can't believe they make the new style tractors have diesel exhaust fluid. That's not an expense a farmer needs on the fields

We had a 39 acre fruit farm and we had a 1970 Ford 3000 with 35,000 hours . Never did an overhaul. Replaced the rear brakes and it ran great.

If you could I’d say come on up this spring I’ll let you run our Massey on the planter for a bit. Nothing quieter or more comfortable. That 66 would be a nice unit.

yeah me and my dad went to anuction amd we bought an allis challmers but what we did not know was that the clutch and the steering was broking so we fixed it up and sold it then bought a kubota.

We’ve got an auction like that down here in tx every year in August but it’s a 5 day long auction and we go to it sometimes to buy stuff sometimes just to see prices

I went to joels consignment auction in iowa yesterday.The tractors went high or they didn't sell with the reserve on. For what's it worth my jd partsman told me to keep clear of 4760 and 4960's because they were at the end of the production run and getting the right parts for them can be a real pain

I would love a 4960. We have a 4840 with duals, a 8640 with duals all the way around for ground work along with other JD tractors.

That Massey 8670 was a steal. Those things have a base hp of 290hp and they boost up to 300hp, so that's some cheap power for $80k

Love watching because Ryan's such a good dude. I grew up and graduated in new glarus so not to far from the Lancaster/ Platteville area where their at. Always wondered, how do tractors like that end up getting sold at auction? The counties auctioning off this equipment ? You know a good place to keep an eye out for farm equipment of any type is that wisconsin surplus auction site. They sell alot of like retired County vehicles and Highway Department stuff but I have definitely seen some farming and construction equipment in there. It's an option but the price is pretty low on the stuff because it is stuff that's had a lot of use and ours put on it. It's always interesting to look through there though. Never know when you could find something you'd like or could use

Those Genius motors can go 20k hrs before a rebuild. Our neighbor has 3 of them and I’ve never heard of him having any problems.

I wouldn’t mind a Massey. But the only reason I’d take a new holland or a Deere over a massey is the simple fact that there’s not a dealer within 100 miles. Another quality video Ryan. Keep me coming.

Hey Ryan, How come we never see any plowing? You have shown lots of tillage but never any plowing. Figured that would be a good question you could maybe discuss in an upcoming video. Thank you and keep up the great work!
