This journey on The Great Allegheny Passage was a true test of my abilities, both physically and emotionally. The door is now open to the future. It’s like riding a bike.

I rode the section from Frostburg to Cumberland on August 19, 2023. I parked in the parking garage in Cumberland and rode up the mountain, all the way to Frostburg and toured the carriage museum near the train station for the scenic railway. I then rode back down to Cumberland to complete a 30+ mile ride. What made the whole trip much easier, is I have an ebike and the assistance of the motor helped make pedaling more enjoyable. I have rode up the mountain with a traditional pedal bike and it's not really that bad, if the temperature is not too hot and humid. It just takes a little bit longer a journey than with an ebike. I have ridden the entire Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Cumberland several times in the years I have been riding. I also have an action camera that I use to film my rides, but I don't put any of them on you tube or social media sites. I just make them to archive my trips to show family and friends. I have ridden many of the trails in Western Pennsylvania as well as some in Maryland and West Virginia too.

Hi Jeff. Thanks so much for watching. What trails would you recommend in Western PA? I’m looking at the Armstrong and the Redbank Valley trail for future rides. I’ll have to tackle the climb from Cumberland to Frostburg the next time I ride the GAP.
@jeffsheets28999 ай бұрын
Both trails are well worth riding. The Armstrong Trail, primarily runs alongside the Allegheny River from Ford City to East Brady and goes through some towns along the way. The Redbank Trail, begins about 5 miles south of East Brady and the trailhead parking is in an isolated area of of State Route 1003. The trail, runs from a branch off of the Armstrong Trail to Brookville. It runs beside the Redbank Creek for 41 miles, through nice peaceful wilderness with a few towns to go through. I rode these trails and I did them in two parts.

Congratulations Steve! There is nothing like the memories made when riding the GAP, especially if it's your first. There's nothing to be ashamed of for being emotional for all you've accomplished...

Steve, I actually stumbled upon your series on the Great Allegheny Passage. You have plenty to be proud of. You challenged yourself and succeeded. I actually found myself holding back tears at the end of your journey, as i knew it was very emotional for you. Looking forward to more videos in the future. Well done!

Diane, thank you so much. It was indeed an emotional experience, especially that last mile. I thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. I love the GAP and will be back there again someday. I have been so busy at work, but the trails are definitely calling and there will be more videos out soon. Life is short, enjoy the ride! If you wouldn’t mind messaging me privately, I’d be happy to send you one of my Steve Takes a Bike Hike Tshirts and water bottles as a sign of gratitude for watching.

Congratulations! Loved following along on your journey. My husband and I have ridden the GAP between Cumberland and Dawson. I want to ride the rest of the trail, maybe next Spring/Summer. Planning to hit some of our favorite spots on the C&O and GAP in October. We recently retired, our retirement plan is bicycling. Take care

Which camera do you like best GOPRO or the DJI?
@stevetakesabikehike8 ай бұрын
After using the DJI for a while now, I must admit that I’m a convert. Both cameras do the same thing, but the DJI in my opinion has better overall features. The color and vibrancy are better. The ability to quickly swap mounts with the magnetic base is a game changer as well. And battery life is so much better with the DJI.

dude, you staying in motels and b&b's. that ain't fair!! you should have to camp like i will have to do every night. you eating high on da hog at deez fancy restraunts.
@stevetakesabikehike9 ай бұрын
In my defense, it was mostly burger stands along the trail lol. You do have me on the motel and b&b part. I’ve done the camping thing in the past and will in the future. For this trip I opted for a little bit of luxury. Thanks for watching.
