I think I would call foden a N10; to be fair, he has not started in the earlier half of the season. But as he grows, hes able to show phenomenal amounts of talent and footballing ability, and to do it in so many games with impressive numbers, it is insane. His natural footballing talent as a player is just incredible too. Even under a strict plan under pep, hes able to thrive in dribbling and his attacking prowess. Pep will definitely provide him more freedom in time to come, imagine what more he can do. I think he definitely deserves to be called a number 10.

I would say griezmann is kinda modern 10 he was plaing attack but after coming back from barca he is not fully playing attacking and helping the team to build etc.

I feel you are considering exclusively the starting position in the teamsheet when disregarding names like Foden, Palmer and Bellingham tho. In most games the majority of their actions is in central areas if the pitch. Also, Ronaldinho for example is a classic n10 despite playing mostly on the left for Barcelona. For me the attacking mid position and its areas of influence will vary depending on the tactical approach and playing style of other players in each team. Anyway, nice video mate!

I am a lfc fan , but if theres a man u player which i respect a lot its gotta be Bruno Fernandes. When has he been inconsistent of fradulent ? Hes the focal point of man u and the team doesnot work without him . I will share some stats and tell me if hes been inconsistent or not . 2019/20 - 12 goals 8 assists 2020/21 - 28 goals 18 assists (best season) 2021/22 - 10 goals 13 assists 2022/23 - 14 goals 13 assists 2023 /24 - 15 goals 11 assists Its not his problem that hes stuck in a bad team . If he was in man city , he wudve been thriving and more rated . Give him a poacher and he wud do the wonders .

Brahim Díaz is another great example of a modern number 10. He has more appearances as one though he can play on both the right and the left well (which shows his versatility) and is one of the best dribblers in the world who recently has had very high output as a sub. If he is patient and waits for Kroos to make way imagine him starting behind Mbappe, Vini Jr, and Rodrygo.

The most popular formation decides what player types are most common. In the 433 wich was the most popular the last maybe 7 years, you use a 6 in the base and two 8s. The 10 has no place. In germany where alot of teams play 4231, you usually use a 6, an 8 and a 10 at the tip. And as you can see, Germany got loads of good 10s.

There are lots of things to disagree here, but Imma leave that out. The most important thing for a 10 today is adaptibility. In the past, teams were built around tens and protected their free role. Nowadays 10s need at least a second position, because not every manager plays with a 10. So players like Wirtz or Musiala often play as a winger, De Bruyne plays an 8, Fernandes played as a 6 and as a winger. Ødegaard plays as an 8, etc. The decline of the 10 was mostly the decline of the players in that position that couldn't adapt to a new role, like James or Isco.

I think in Europe’s top leagues it’s difficult to incorporate a classic 10 because the speed,energy, and industriousness of modern midfields but in slower leagues like the MLS and Liga MX classic 10s can still thrive. Nico Lodeiro, Luciano Acosta, Carles Gil and even Almiron when he was in the MLS are good examples. And I’d name some Liga MX examples but I’ve stopped watching in recent years but I can remember an old Cualtemoh Blanco, and Ronaldinho being decent even in their old age.

Tbh I’ll give pulisic a shout-out he has 15 goals and 9 assists this season. He mostly plays on the wing but he can 100% play as a modern 10 and he’s done it many times this season by the coach. When he plays to the 10 Milan’s attack looks very fluid and quick. He also can defend pretty well he has good defensive stats for an attacker in Italy

The number 10 has changed long ago. The ones who couldn't transition and adopt are the one who made it look like it was dead. It only evolved. KDB, Phoden, Odegaard and the other guys are great example ones who evolved. The question is can he German guys play as a CM if needed?

Ødegaard is definitely playing as a ten recently. Arsenal are basically playing 4231 or even a 424 with 2 10s is Ødegaard and Havertz. Off ball they sit in a 442 and either press or mid block. With the ball Rice has more freedom to push forward or wide but will often sit in beside Jorginho/Partey to help in build up. Honestly with the positional variability and flexibility teams like Arsenal and City exhibit i think its pretty hard to define clear positions because their movement is contextual. To me the idea that wou can definitively state "Ødegaard is an 8" is drawn more from how we conceptualise football formations based on Sky Sports graphics and Fifa tactics rather than what the players are actually doing on the pitch.
