Narrowboat Rush hour as boaters leave the canal down the locks, as they're about to close the canal, due low water levels. A record number of boats make a mad dash to escape being trapped! Volunteer lock keepers run at full speed to help the boats navigate safely through the locks. Also...
I take a narrowboat cruise along the Peak forest canal to Whaley bridge, and joined onboard by musician and friend, 'PaoloC', who takes to the helm for the first time!
And, have I just spotted a red kite or a rare black kite bird of prey? Watch till the end to find out!
The Journey started here... I once lived in the fast lane of life, happily married of 26 years, with two children. That chapter was suddenly shattered by the sudden loss of my wife to cancer, which led me in to depression and homelessness. Waking up in hospital, after attempting to take my own life, with just a suitcase, kayak and bicycle and no money, I've managed to rise up out of the darkness and find happiness and continue my next chapter.
I'm a self taught film maker, and creating these vlogs, it gives me something to do, share my personal experiences as I continue my journey cruising and living life on the canal. Please do consider supporting my channel below... Thank you Dave

I love the positiveness of your videos, Dave. Your sightings of the nature along the canals are so beautiful, the lush green trees and other vegetation, and the birds. Congratulations for sighting of the black kite 💕 Here in Finland it is seen very seldom. The time lapse of the busy boat traffic at the locks was very interesting.

Thanks for watching. It all depends on mother nature, need lots of rain from her. It may close, but sure will reopen at a later date. Canal and river trust have managed to get an old feed working from a reservoir, which is helping to top up the canal a bit.

You are an amazingly resilient person going through what you have, and coming out the other side, choosing to "live in the moment". Ahh, Mindfulness is a great healer of the soul. I couldn't imagine losing my wife of 42 years but know the inevitable can happen at any time, so I also choose to live life one day at a time...thinking of "the what-if" only leads to catastrophizing & chronic anxiety, my arch nemesis!!! Amazing sighting! The number of sightings of BK is apparently increasing and it is a future potential breeder along with several other species.

Yes, it's definitely an amazing moment. At first, I presumed it to be a red kite, but a closer look, it wasn't a red. Still, images and a bit of research confirmed it was a black kite.

Fortunately, it's not affecting me as I live on the Macclesfield canal. It's a yearly thing that the canal gets closed here each summer, mainly down to mother nature and a reservoir not in use due to rebuilding the dam at WhaleyBridge. But I do feel for many boaters that planned to cruise and holiday up here. Once Todbrook reservoir is finished, things will improve.

Lovely views on the high peak canal. Busy time o the canals now. Hope the Locks are not closed to long. Didn’t they use Rudyard lake to top up the canal or am I wrong such are large lake ? 🙂

Hi, as far as I know, Rudyard lake doesn't supply the canal. Yes, great scenery, views along the upper peak forest canal. Thanks for watching! Dave

My Narrowboat name of 'the isness' was renamed to be inspired by nature, and my channel name changed too, some time ago. However, the isness is always there!
