Stuck in the frozen canal for nearly three weeks, finally, the warm southerly winds eventually melted the ice on the canal, and I'm able to start cruising again. I moor up on Britain's longest ley line, the Belinus line, also known as the Spine of Albion, which dates back to prehistoric man and I get charged up with free earth energy. Me and Jazz rescue a bird with a broken wing from the canal and we get help from the wildlife hospital. I tune in and witness scenes of incredible beauty that surround me, divine misty and snowy scenes. I watch the breath-taking break of dawn, sunrise and sunset. Taking a walk down to Jazzes boat, I go bird spotting and in search of the Great spotted Woodpecker.
The Journey started here... I once lived in the fast lane of life, happily married of 26 years, with two children. That chapter was suddenly shattered by the sudden loss of my wife to cancer, which led me in to depression and homelessness. Waking up in hospital, after attempting to take my own life, with just a suitcase, kayak and bicycle and no money, I've managed to rise up out of the darkness and find happiness and continue my next chapter.
I'm a self taught film maker, and creating these vlogs, it gives me something to do, share my personal experiences as I continue my journey cruising and living life on the canal. Please do consider supporting my channel below... Thank you Dave

Amazing vlog Dave, the quality of your filming and editing makes it such an enjoyable watch. The canal and countryside looks so beautiful there in the winter and the sunsets were beautiful. Great shots of the birds too, I really love the long tail tits and the greater spotted woodpecker footage was a rare treat. Well done for saving Funky 👍

Do you worry about the pressure of ice on the hull?(probably showing such ignorance here… maybe the ice isn’t that thick). Your films are just beautiful ❤

The ice can get thick over a week or so of freezing temperatures and due to the narrowness and lack of water flow. Reason for not moving through ice. It strains your engine. It brings off the boats protective blacking on the hull around the waterline where the boat needs the greatest protection from corrosion. Cruising through the ice sheet sends off left and right, separated ice sheets. So when passing other boats, especially made of fiberglass, you risk damage or sink them. And the biggest reason you're putting people life's at risk, insurance can be void too. Hope that explains. I've only attempted a few times to go very think melting slushy ice, and it took off some blacking a few years back. 😃 🙏
