DUCK REFERENCE FROM THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE AND FRIENDS "Theres two ways of doin things the Great Western way or the wrong way"
@iamRAYZILLA
@iamRAYZILLA 3 жыл бұрын
One of my favorite non-American steam locomotives has always been the 57xx pannier tank. Ergo, that's why Duck is my favorite Thomas character. There's a very...professional look about them. They look like they take great pride in their work, and they look good fulfilling said duties. And that really must have rubbed off on Wilbert Awdry himself, given Duck and his motto. "There are two ways of doing things: the Great Western way, or the wrong way."

During the 1930’s Charles Collet’s idea of the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement of the 7200 class was to rebuild 4200 & 5205’s with extended coal bunkers to give greater range in the South Wales Coalfield; Shedded at 86A Ebbw junction, 86G Pontypool Road, 86J Aberdare, 87D Swansea East Dock, Cardiff & Barry Area 88A. They were later deployed to other locations for iron ore & mineral trains on the region.

Duck is stated to be a 57xx (despite his earliest illustrations resembling a 64xx) and is numbered 5741 in the RWS (though is still technically the NWR's #8). When appearing in show, he was a brighter shade of green like Percy and Henry, no separated black smokebox, less defined steps to either side of his face, and a black plate on his cab with a yellow 8 (likely to make it more obvious to kids that he's the 8th). As for Oliver, he had green wheels, and his 11 was yellow with red borders like most of the others and no black plate; his GWR number is 1436. For them in a full NWR style livery, I imagine: apple green, red boiler bands tank and bunker lining, yellow cab windows, yellow numbers at the middle of the tanks, green wheels, red running board. Percy has most of these apart from no bunker lining, brass dome, boiler bands on his saddle tank, and number on his bunker. I think those three are the only Westerners to work on Sodor. Lastly, for a Great Western Way joke, I'll link you to this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bd2hpNeCuOC0fGQ.html

Good evening Sam Lovely video to watch. Even as a dedicated modeller of diesels, I do count myself as a fan of the GWR. I model the Great Western mainline / West Country, just firmly in HST time rather than King Class... That being said my favourite GWR locomotive is the Castle. This is a combination of sentimental reasons and admiration. The late great John Peel once narrated a channel 4 series called “Great Trains”, one episode focussing on express services. In the episode it was explained how the Castle was sent for trials against the A1/3 from the LNER and totally blew it away. It’s said this experience led to Gresley re-working the A3s to produce much better performance. Stay well, keep the videos coming.

Hi Sam Also a fan of GWR and I have studied it in depth. I visited most of the Motive Power Depots before detruction in the 1950s and 1960s. I gained my steam ticket driving a Hall. My problem is that because of the successfull boiler standardisation when you create OO scale models the similarity becomes a problem and many models look extremely similar.

I've got a Hornby King George 1 with TTS sound - it's a favourite, and go-to engine for hauling any kind of coaches. I think it looks better in the flesh than it did in the video, wonderfully detailed, and the sound is the best of any of my TTS locos - great chuffing, and the long whistle is awesome. As you know, I'm hard to please, so this is definitely a recommendation!

What a Lovely selection, and what a delight. Our latest Hattons order had Large Prairies in it. O gauge as well!! Also Small Prairies are very sweet. Dukedog. City of Truro have seen both in action! Mogul. The Grange... Must get one of these. The one that does make me smile is the Larger County as the boiler is the same as Stanier put in his 8F. Useful as they use an 8F boiler in the New build County!! Castles are also Lovely. Thank you Sam. D&L.

Hi Sam, There are quite a few 4-6-4 tanks bigger than the 72XX, biggest I can find with dimensions easily available is the L&YR Dreadnought Tank at 15.2m with the 72XX at 13.67m, although the LB&SCR L class /looks/ huge as well. 72XX is the biggest GWR tank though yes.

Hi Sam. For me, the sexiest engine ever to run on British tracks is, without doubt, the 'City Of Truro'! There's something about engines with outside frames that make you stop and stare in awe, and the Truro has that effect on me. And for me, the frame has to be in its original Indian Red livery, while pulling a rake of those gorgeous chocolate & cream clerestory coaches. Heaven!

Not too long ago I learned the town next to me used to be served by the Great Western, which surprised me since I thought I was in Southern territory. Apparently they used to run the old 14xx autocoach services here, which were later replaced by the railcars, and finally with more standard BR diesels before the service was ultimately scrapped and the station turned into a car park with a hidden platform and rails in the bricks. The GWR was for a long time my favourite of the Big Four because of the green colour - and exposure. I've found SR is a little too..IDK, I can't appreciate them the same way. But as time goes on, I've found myself appreciating the pre-grouping railways just as much like the LSWR and L&YR.

12:30 The one tripping point for the hall class is that with a smaller firebox than a pacific, they needed good quality coal to get the most out of them. But that's a pretty minor detail.
