Introducing the greatest work of Jewish philosophy ever written. Maimonide’ Guide to the Perplexed. Moving masterfully through a thousand years of Greek, Jewish and Muslim philosophy, this text grapples profoundly with the problem of evil, the nature of reality and the meaning of life. Culminating with an astonishing re-reading of the Bible, which radically redefines God, religion and humanity in the process.
Banned and burned by religious authorities, it continues to stir controversy hundreds of years later, perplexing the guided, and guiding the perplexed… Join us as we explore Moses Maimonides’ Guide of the Perplexed, the Rambam’s Moreh Nevuchim.

Thank you Zevi :) The idea of the book according to Maimonides is linked to another central Islamic sufi concept, which is the concept of the complete human being (perfect human), which represents for the Sufis the highest position in the spiritual levels, through which the aspirant can reach the full awareness of the G-d without an intermediary. Maimonides developed a concept very similar to the concept of the Muslim Sufis in his book. Maimonides used many philosophical mystical sufi terms such as unity, adoration, separation to him and closeness to him, and many other things was taken from the Sufi literature such as prayers , words and numbers world, silent prayers, and these examples of mystical usage later allowed to the Jewish thinkers to identify the mystical philosophy of Judaism. Did Maimonides present sufi Islamic ideas that contradict Jewish teachings but are compatible with Sufism ?

@@SeekersofUnity THIS IS THE TRINITY COMMENT: 6:07 Ok. So here we have a HUGE problem. Because Islam and Judaism declare the 'Trinity' to be Shirk. Which it is not. This is PRECISELY a case of applying the 'materialistic' understanding to profound theosophy. The 'Trinity' presents the TRANSACTION between God and Man, and the non-dual integration of Man with God. It's NOT a case of "God having a body". It's a case of all that there is, being God. The non-dual integration of Man with God, means that 'me', 'I', 'ego', disappears. And all that remains is God. The understanding is based on NOT positing 'Divine' versus 'human'. GENESIS 1: 26 Man - has been done - as OUR likeness - as OUR character. אֱלֹהִ֔ים כִּדְמוּתֵ֑נוּ בְּצַלְמֵ֖נוּ נַֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה אָדָ֛ם - God Himself has not separated himself from you. You state; "God doesn't have a body". This relies on you presenting yourself as being SEPARATE from God. The 'dualistic' model. In the non-dual integration of Man with God, God doesn't have 'a' body; but he has 'your' body. So what we our breaking with this understanding, is one's view of 'ordinary self'. We're transforming that into a Divine identity. In Tantra, this is called 'holding Divine Pride'. To 'hold' Divine Pride for a sustained length of time and ultimately never fall out of it again, is EXTREMELY difficult. The 'Trinity' is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of Shirk. The ONLY thing which you 'partner' with God is your 'self', until all that remains is God. It's a total SURRENDERING. Shirk is to 'partner' the god SCIENCE with God. For example. Sometimes you're IN God and sometimes YOU want to 'control'. The Luciferian mindset. As Rabbi 'the word' Joshua states: JOHN 14: 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. The Rabbi of Christianity is 'the crucified 'jew' '. They're calling the revolt of 4 B. C. E. the 'messianic' revolt. Which was crushed by Publius Quinctilius Varus, who crucified 2,000 Judahians (according to Wikipedia). So this is how we have the Abrahmic 'split' into 3. Through broken linguistic bridges, they can't understand each other's theosophies. - 8:19 Ok. So here, this is interesting. Because again, I would say that the concept of 'free will' is dependent on 'separateness' from God. If we are IN God, what is our will? Is it our will or God's will? If we are IN God, it can only be God's will. 8:40 So again, we've lost 'the human IN God'. Who is what? Is he/she/they not human? Is he/she/they not God?

@@SeekersofUnity This is the 'jew/jesus' comment: 2:15 I'm all for you "cleaning up the language"! But why not start with 'jew'? The racist Middle English term from Old French, of those that couldn't manage the second syllable. I refuse to use it now. 'Jew', 'Jesus' and 'the messiah' all surfaced in Middle English. You state that you seek 'unity' but how will you get 'unity' if you persist in using the DIVISIVE linguistics of Middle English? See how they posit 'jew' versus 'Jesus' and then 'the messiah' surfaces. First of all, the Rabbi which they refer to was a Judahian. Secondly, there is NO ONE called 'Jesus'. The Greek declares moshiach Joshua or Joshua. Never anything else. And thirdly, 'moshiach' is NOT 'messiah'. Moshiach is 'christos' in Greek and 'messias' in Latin. They INVENTED 'messiah' from 'messias'. If we want 'unity', we have to courageously reinvent ourselves and our linguistic approaches. 2:54 I studied this with my Rabbi and didn't find Aristotle to be lacking in 'faith'.

When I was studying it (only mad it about 40 chapters in) it amazed me that he spent almost 1/3 of his entire book just going over definitions. "When they say that He sat on the divine throne, they don't mean that He literally sat..." "By saying the God took the Israelites out of Egypt 'with a strong arm', this is figurative, since God doesn't have an arm..." I wonder if there was an actual need for this, instead of having a single opening chapter that says "All physical and anthropomorphized descriptions and actions pertaining to God are figurative and should not be taken literally". Maybe he wanted to drill it into the reader's mind through repetition, since we all know that repetition legitimizes. I wonder if there was an actual need for this, instead of having a single opening chapter that says "All physical and anthropomorphized descriptions and actions pertaining to God are figurative and should not be taken literally". The Shekhinah, like the other avatars of God, was created when a stray shot by Khaos hit God and blasted a piece of him. Instead of recovering all the fallen pieces, God decided to transform some of them into new beings, so as not to destroy Creation with his power. At some point during the Bronze Age, the Shekhinah began working alongside her brother, Yahweh, and became his consort. When Yahweh decided to help Moses deliver the people of Israel from Egypt, she led the Hebrews through the desert like a pillar of cloud and fire. After Moses created the Ark of the Covenant, the Shekhinah rested there.

The work is more about reconciling the intellect and Judaism than about reconciling Aristotle and Moses. For the intellect to work out as the key to religious sucess, religion has to work through the elements that the intellect can deal with: data and order. Thus, the Guide places huge emphasis on nature and following observations in the book. Of course, the absurdities of a literal reading of the Bible have to be read another way, so the Guide places emphasis on this as well. Those who see the book as merely blending Greek philosophy and Jewish religion fail to see that relegating Judsaism to the mystical makes it meaningless in terms of acheiving any level of success in the observable world. They have to read all of the promises of the Torah as metaphor for some unobservable world, references to "wisdom" as metaphor for paradoxical knowledge of things that cannot be known, and references to any sort of human understanding of the commandments as "sweet nothings."

Nicely done. Personally, the narrative would benefit from a more colloquial style. While there are many points that could be refined, one point I think is critical for The Guide is the distinction between PRAXIS and Philosophy. Most western trained "intellectuals" use terms like "mysticism" and "Philosophy" becoming mired in the superficiality of Hellenistic influences. Ignored is the steady flow of intellectual and mathematical creativity from the East (for example, where did the Arabic numerals derive). From that perspective, The Guide writes of Apprehension of Being, or Transcendence, and Praxis (or, Meditation, see Bk III, chapter 32). Philosophy carries the connotation of a Creed whereas Praxis attaches to establishing Apprehension in Consciousness. A good start.

13:49 Well this is perhaps a 'point of view'. We can also argue that the Divine Will is always exposed. But that the 'obscurations' which come and go our ours. 15:03 "But the body is only half the picture." In our absorptions into intellectual and spiritual pursuits, we 'forget' to alleviate the very extreme human suffering through 'killing' which goes on every day. We have become 'desensitized'. We revel in phylosophical and theosophical discourse and accept the daily horrors as 'normal' occurrences. This is very negative. We omit the PRACTICAL application of what we are doing, which is to alleviate suffering. STARTING with the 'bodies' of the victims of daily 'killing'. 15:37 "..to lift them above the chaos and turmoil of every day life to a mode of being characterized rather by order, restraint, moderation and equanimity.' In relation to 'others', equinimity means 'no holding some close and others distant'. A breaking of the mind that 'loves' some and 'hates' others and feels 'completely indifferent' to most. 15:59 Well ok. But equanimity is the care for the 'health' of others and all. Not just 'ones' health. 17:39 And now 'the alleviation of suffering' is where?

7:06 Yes. My Rabbi also posits 'nothing'. However the texts reads "created the heavens and the earth". Which doesn't present 'from nothing'. Rather a 'division' between 'above' and 'below'. 7:22 Well we can argue 'nothing' versus 'eternal quarks and leptons' till the cows come home. But we need to ask ourselves as to whether this makes any difference at all in practical terms. I don't think WORLD PEACE is gonna be affected by whether we posit 'nothing' or posit 'eternal quarks and leptons'. 11:24 Well according to my Rabbi, this is the main difference between Maimonides' view and Aristotle. The view of 'from nothing' versus God and the universe as 'parallels'. However, where is the notion of 'from nothing' coming from?

Jesus the Splendor, also just called Jesus, is a Fragment of the Primordial God known as the Father of Greatness, being the Manichaeism equivalent of Christian Jesus. Like the Yeshua of the Christian religion, he is a kind, honest and very gentle deity. In Manichaeism, Jesus is considered one of the four prophets of this religion, along with Zoroaster, Gautama Buddha, and Mani. He is also a "guiding deity" who greets the light bodies of the righteous upon their deliverance. Like the Christian Jesus, he lived from 0 to 33 CE, being worshiped as the Son of God, and the Savior who rose from the dead. The religion of Manichaeism is a Gnostic religion, so unlike the Christian religion where the Messiah is the incarnation of God the Son, in Manichaeism there is a distinction between the physical and historical Jesus and the spiritual Jesus, with the human Yeshua being an aspect of the spiritual Christos. NOTE: Like his Gnostic counterpart, it is unknown whether this "version" of Jesus has any direct connection to Jesus Prime. It can be said that their relationship is the same as the avatars of God such as Allah, Yahweh and Elohim, each being an incarnation of the Creator.

In fact it would be so perplexing I would be in favor of an organization that legally protected my conflated identities from criticism of any kind, whether they be expressed publicly or privately by the offender. I could also see myself easily slipping into a victimized mentality where I point out to others who have not lived or experienced such a confused perplexity that my people have been marginalized, persecuted, exiled, enslaved, genocided, insulted, blah blah blah. It is a blessing to know that my Lord and savior came to Earth and sacrificed himself so that sinners like me may have a chance to walk with Jew and gentile alike as brothers and sisters in the kingdom of heaven by simply learning to love. Salam Zevi, Woah, most of the arguments dealt in Maimonides' Book are the same arguments dealt by Ibn Rushd & Al-Ghazali (and many other Islamic philosophers in his time during the 11-12th century), but with Jewish flavour. I think Maimonides must’ve been greatly influenced by the furious debates that went on between the Muslim Scholars-specially in Córdoba, where he lived amongst these Muslim scholars such as Ibn Rushd, as the city was the centre of Intellectuality, Science & Culture at his time-Arguments that has originated from the “Translation Movement” of Greek Philosophy in Bayt al-Ḥikmah, and many other works of different cultures, into Arabic during Abbasid Era and the start of Great Mihna by the Mutazilites (creation of the Holy Quran-Allah (ﷻ) forbid!). The deviant concept of the Holy Quran being created has disappeared over the years, but in other matters, the debates are still on-going to this very day (heated Twitter wars between Atharīs & Ash’ārīs with the sound of memes' mind-blowing explosions, whirls of highlighted PDF’s shootings, and a faint Māturidī sobs are heard somewhere in the background as you read this), as well as many of other Aqīdah arguments are still disputed amongst many Islamic Scholars today e.g. Nature of God: Interpretation of Allah’s Divine Names & Attributes, Allah’s Divine Knowledge vs. Freewill, Transcendence of Allah vs. Allah above the Heavens, …etc. I think the books “The Incoherence of Philosophers” by al-Ghazali, and “The Incoherence of Incoherence” by Ibn Rushd, may give you a broader and more general view of what was going on at his time (also mentioned in the link of the article summary I sent you before) that will delve in-depth about the similar arguments presented in Maimonides' Book, i.e. Nature of God & His Divine Attributes, Cosmological Argument “First Uncaused Cause” or “Prime Mover” by al-Ghazali, the Eternity of the World by Ibn Rushd, and the Problem of Evil, Freewill vs Omniscience of God. It seems that Maimonides' Book “The Guide of the Perplexed” is a guide to be perplexed in itself - Thanks for your coherent clear short video to guide us through this perplex! Wishing you peace, blessings and guidance to you all.

Egyptians stories you copied, wake is best, saved needs protection. But whence comes the "s" in Jesus's name? This is of great importance. It is derived from an Egyptian suffix written either SA, SE, SI, SU, or SAF, SEF, SIF or SUF (SAPH, SEPH, SIPH or SUPH) and meaning "the son," "heir," "prince" or successor to the father. (The F is an Egyptian ending for the masculine singular.) When the original symbol of divinity, IO or IE, JO or JE, was combined with the Egyptian suffix for the succeeding heir, SU or SA, the resultant was the name IUSA, IUSE, IUSU, or IOSE; or IESU, JESU, IUSEF, IOSEF, JOSEF. One of the many forms was JESU and another was JOSEF. The final F became sibilant at times and gave us the eventual form of JESUS. The name then meant the "divine son," and combined in the Egyptian IU the idea of the coming one. Hence JESUS was the Messiah, the coming son of the divine life. There was in Egypt for ten thousand years B.C. the character of this functionary under the name of IUSA. Later he was the Iu-em-hetep, which means "the divine son who comes with peace (hetep). But most interestingly, this last word also means seven. Hence Jesus is he who comes as the seventh principle to complete the six elementary powers of natural evolution with the gift of divine intelligence, which supplants the elementary chaos with the rulership of love and intelligence and thus brings peace into a warring situation. Hence finally, Jesus is the seventh cosmic principle, announced in all religious lore as he who comes to bring peace and good will to men. And as such he was announced in the Christian Gospels. But there was more than one Jesus or IUSA or IU before the coming of the alleged historical Jesus.

2:15 I'm all for you "cleaning up the language"! See how they posit 'jew' versus 'Jesus' and 'the messiah' surfaces. 2:45 So he's addressing Moshiach ben Yosef? That's interesting. 2:54 I studied this with my Rabbi and didn't find Aristotle to be lacking in 'faith'.

5:57 'Literally' is not the right word. They're reading it 'materialistically' rather than 'spiritually'. 'Materialists' struggle to perceive the spiritual dimension. Everything is reduced to a plot of land, a principality, a power. 6:07 Ok. So here we have a HUGE problem. Because Islam declare the 'Trinity' to be Shirk. Which it is not. This is PRECISELY a case of applying the 'materialistic' understanding to that profound theosophical understanding. The 'Trinity' presents the TRANSACTION between God and Man, and the non-dual integration of Man with God. It's NOT a case of "God having a body". It's a case of all that there is being God. As Rabbi 'the word' states: JOHN 14: 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. The Rabbi of Christianity is 'the crucified 'jew' '. They're calling the revolt of 4 B. C. E. the 'messianic' revolt. Which was crushed by Publius Quinctilius Varus, who crucified 2,000 Judahians (see Wikipedia).
