Kershaw is easily one the best pitchers of all-time. As a unbiased Yankees fan I was extremely happy to see him finally win that World Series championship. In my opinion the consistency that he's shown throughout his career is unmatched. No doubt he's a first ballot HOF. Give this man the love and respect he deserves 😤.

Doesn’t Kersh have a better ERA+ than Koufax? And he’s playing even after his prime.
@MikeCoggan
@MikeCoggan 2 жыл бұрын
Actually Clayton has the 5th highest ERA+ ever at 155, sandwiched between deGrom at 156 and Pedro Martinez at 154. That alone is greatness, but add in at 2477 innings which is 923 more innings than the next, and twice as many as deGrom. 2 of the pitchers were from the 1920s Negro League and Mariano is at the top so not apples to apples. Clayton has done it at that level for longer than any other pitcher EVER. A career ERA of 2.49, WHIP of 1.0 and a BAA of .209 over 15 years. His winning % is also 5th at .691 behind a guy who pitched in the 1870s, 2 Negro League pitchers and Spud Chandler who won 109 games with the bulk between 1940 - 1943 - WW2 years. A little added perspective Clayton's career OPS against is .583. The Reds are at the bottom of the MLB this year with a team OPS of .585 - and Clayton has made all of his opponents the 2022 Reds for his entire career of 15 years. I just looked this stuff up and I knew he was great, but I was even surprised. There is a very strong argument that he is the greatest starting pitcher of all time. Here's a thing too, Clayton has done it in a time of TV, internet and social media on a large market team - which means more scrutiny under a microscope and has always handled himself well. Better man off the field
@lloydyoo740
@lloydyoo740 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeCoggan Thank you for bringing the stats up. I also wanted to point it out that as science and tech developed, players have been getting better and better overall than the previous generations. Despite that, Kershaw has been bringing up better numbers than older legends for a longer period of time. Hence why, I think Clayton Kershaw IS THE BEST of ALL TIME, no doubt.
@MikeCoggan
@MikeCoggan Жыл бұрын
@@lloydyoo740 and early on, their bullpen was crappy, and they would leave him in to long. I played through college, coached when my kids were playing and have an umpire for the last 15 years When a pitcher has only given up soft contact for 6 innings and he gives up 3 line drives...even if they are outs it is a sign they are done. I was known for having a quick hook, but I didn't want to set up anyone to fail, I would rather pull them before too much damage and have them leave on a better note. I remember a game, I think against the Cubs in 2016 playoffs, Clayton was great through 6, as I recall it was warm and in the 7th they hit 4 or 5 rockets....as soon as the first one,I would get someone up in the BP , and after the 2nd or 3rd would have taken him out
@MikeCoggan
@MikeCoggan Жыл бұрын
@@lloydyoo740 I also saw that the only pitcher with a higher winning percentage is Spud Chandler from the 1937-47 Yankees at 109-43. Half of those wins we're during WW2 years ,1940-1943 when he was 54-19 those 4 years. Not only war years but also pre+integration. I find it amazing that pitchers who are close tho Clayton stats wise have not much over 1/2 of the innings Clayton had pitched and Mariano Duncan....

I'm a Dodger fan and a huge Kershaw fan living in the Midwest. I used to make road trips to Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati, to watch him pitch although this year with ticket prices and gas prices (thanks joe) I will not be going. Statistically speaking you could make a case he's top five all time but the old timers like Koufax, Marichal, Gibson, Ford, Carlton, Ryan, Palmer, Seaver, etc., couldn't skip a start or go on the DL for a month every year like Kershaw and Scherzer do, or the overrated deGrom who makes 15 starts then takes a year off.
