Premiered October 14, 1966.
15 days after filming of "Green Hornet" was begun Bruce Lee wrote letter to William Dozier. In short, it was very wise and gentle ask for few lines for Kato in the script. Because standing still when the camera up close and don't saying anything is only look simple but really hard to "act" as a character. Just a few words or questions that won't ruin prewritten scenario might help to uncover his character. In this episode it clearly started, and surprisingly worked very well through the season.

Van Williams and Bruce Lee became very close friends during the run of the Green Hornet--Williams realized early on the Bruce Lee was the real star of the Green Hornet and demanded that the writers and producer William Dozier give him more story lines/exposure on the show

Really. I didn't know that. That was pretty neat of him. Made Bruce more than an asian sidekick. To bad the show only lasted one season. Batman was originally suppose to be more serious like this show, but I understand test audiences preferred the camp humor. Audiences were kind of weird back then. As a kid I was disappointed when I finally got to see Batman, yet I was really into The Green Hornet. However as an adult I came to appreciate the humor in Batman and still enjoy the Green Hornet. So glad that youtube has the episodes.

@@wiseguymaybe Audiences were certainly not weird back then and were much more civilized. Now the media are saturated with everything gross n vulgar so almost every show has to have a warning of 'violence, coarse language, and mature subject matter,' because the public is completely desensitized n radicalized thru social engineering by the ultra ultra far far extreme left.

In the fall of 1966 there were no Asian martial arts on television and almost nothing in the movies. This meant that whatever Bruce did, and most of wasn't related to any Asian martial art, was all new and very exciting.

It’s nice to see Harry Lauter (the bartender) in this. Lauter was a mainstay in TV during the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, usually as a bad guy but sometimes on the right side of the law, as in his costarring role in “Tales of the Texas Rangers.”

i enjoyed the series when i saw it live. several things bother me about it though. 1. the impossibility of storing a car upside down. i don’t think any automobile in existence would be able to do that. 2. too much stock footage. they always go through the same litter whenever the black beauty rolls out of the mints sign. 3. in the episode “freeway to death” we see the hornet mortar. why would that not have worked in this one? 4. finally, are the police in this city so incompetent that they have no idea of where the ring has its operation? i still think the series should not have been discontinued after only one season.

@@georgegriffin4668 - How do you hang a car upside down and not have all the gas, oil, and automatic transmission fluid run out? Or at very least into places that'll make it nearly impossible to start the car in a hurry? Hanging a car upside down like that is relatively simple. Driving it off afterwards... not so much.
@Muck006
@Muck006 2 жыл бұрын
@@guarddog318 The problem really are the stupid Hollywood script writers, set designers and filmmakers who IGNORE PHYSICS and LOGIC and so on. For such a cheap production it is logical that they stick with some cheap idiots ... but many modern movies completely ignore those things even though it could have been solved easier. Iron Man for example would still be "smashed into his suit" whenever he lands from "fully flying" and stops immediately; Tony Stark is just a regular human after all and no amount of "magical technology" will prevent his inner organs from moving inside his body during such a maneuver for example. Oh and ... even if the car would "drive off" ... you'd have to clean it A LOT because all the oil and gas and other fluids would have leaked and soiled everything (which would also soil the carpet they are driving over)
@guarddog318
@guarddog318 2 жыл бұрын
@@Muck006 - The fact is, you wouldn't be able to start it at all, without pulling and cleaning all the spark plugs, since they'd be fouled with oil. And it would probably smoke like a freight train until the oil inside the cylinders burned away. ...then there's the battery, which wouldn't be holding a charge due to all the electrolyte draining out of it. 🙄 Anyway, Hollywood screenwriters aren't mechanics, so most of that sort of stuff never even occurs to them. One last thing... an engine that uses a dry sump for its oil WILL run while upside down, but that doesn't do any good for everything else in the vehicle that would have problems from being inverted.

"The Green Hornet" was created by the same man behind "The Lone Ranger." In fact, Britt Reid's father, Dan Reid, was the Lone Ranger's nephew. (This was back in the 1930's-40's.) That connection was never made in this show; the Hornet character was sold to someone else, and it probably wasn't a thought anyway. If there were a true reboot of "The Green Hornet," it would be nice if they could use that backstory.
