Moving abroad can be scary. When you don''t know anyone and have no support system, it can be even more intimidating. THEN factor in the idea that when you do land, your little chocolate face may be a rarity. In this video, I share a wonderful resource if you have plans to move to Merida.
Be sure to join the group at: / brothasandsistasofmerida
In the video, I mentioned how this was not a place for young singles, since I myself am not a "young" single, I decided to let you learn that from someone who is. Check out this video:

Mr. Harrington what a small world! Once, some years ago, I had the oportunity to attend to an event in one of the FILEYs in which a Mayan book of poetry was presented (Seven Dreams) and you did the translation of that book into English, you were there along with professor Feliciano Sánchez Chan (the author) and it was a very interesting and nice lecture. I still have that beautiful book. Greetings.

Hi Kellie, I am a Mexican Born and Naturalized American. I am planning to retire in Yucatan, in about four years from Now. Yucatan is not only one of the safest states in Mexico, but one of the wealthiest culturally speaking in the whole Mexican country. I can tell you that Merida will be even better with construction of the Mayan train (el tren Maya) which will be completed in 2023. I was there last December and I am going back this coming November. to explore a little more of my Future home.

There's nothing better than returning to the comfort of "home". I have spoken to so many folks who left Mexico and went to the U.S. and then returned here. I always ask what made them come back, its usually family and that they earned enough money to really be helpful to their families. Merida def has a rich history as does the entire country. I don't really get to travel but I do appreciate what living here offers me and do my best to respect the culture.

Hola Kellie!

Oooo girl there are so many channels on Merida and I am sooo thankful for them all. I am just now starting all of your videos, enjoying them very much! I will be in Merida in June with me two girls and they are kind of freaking out bc we have not seen very many teens so far. They are 16 and 18 so I will definitely be looking forward to having this resource. We are a mixed family. I am biracial and my girls tell me I look Mexican so I’ll fit in lmbo! They are much darker than me as they are beautiful young black women so I hope they will be able to feel at home and be able to find some people their age. Thank you for sharing!

Mexico is not as racist to the level of the United States 🇺🇸. Mexico is a bit more racist towards themselves and I can say that as a Mexican . The whiter you are or look the better for big time modeling or news cast or soap operas. Mexico is not really racist towards outsiders their very open minded and welcome you in, Mexico issue is more of a class issue, the rich are looked as good people, middle class are looked as decent , the poor are looked as bad people.

Hi, Kellie! I'm needing info on how to navigate Mexico as a disabled woman. I have lupus and several additional lupus-related situations. I live in Albuquerque...so...I'm about a quarter of the way there...lol. Living with a chronic illness can be tricky. I should like to successfully do so in Mexico. I just don't no how.
@KellieMcRaeHurricaneInHeels
@KellieMcRaeHurricaneInHeels 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly, apologies for the delayed response, youtube likes to hide some comments from me. I honestly can't tell you have to navigate life here but what I would recommend is coming for a visit for perhaps a month and seeing how you feel about it. I always recommend at least 30 days because that will give you time to see the city when it rains, when it's hot, how to get groceries (because not many are eating out every day for a month) and also make a few friends. Things are opening up more, festivities are starting to happen again but know coming in, it's 100% mask mandate here when you leave your home. No matter what country you go to, there will be challenges but there is also nothing quite like personal experience. AND, if you can handle Albuquerque heat, Merida may be just fine with you lol

There’s is space plenty in Mexico for a black community However that will be like the white Americans living in a white American community What you need to understand is that the barriers are not built by the Mexican people If you become well adapted to the Mexican and Latinoamérica lifestyle You will know that people regardless of their color is just people and everyone can live openly among others.
@KellieMcRaeHurricaneInHeels
@KellieMcRaeHurricaneInHeels 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it seems you didn't actually watch the video. First of all, we live all over the city in various areas, we aren't in one spot all together. We all have local friends and are integrating just fine, we don't keep anyone out, we associate with everyone here, blacks, whites, locals, etc. The video is not meant to segregate as those who look for this type of stuff would think, however, being in a new culture with a new language can get lonely, having people who can understand and relate to you and your experiences makes the new experience much better. It allows us to spend time learning new things but also allows us respite. Its not unlike communities in America of immigrants, they gather because its less lonely and people "get them". And, white Americans do tend to live in plenty of white communities in America, that's how most of the suburbs were created, them trying to get away from us.

Self segregation is your ticket back to the good old U.S. of A .... Your side of town, your clubs, your restaurants..... You had this back in your country... You really didn't need to move to Mex. to kick it in a restaurant with brothers, and sisters... Mexico already has a "class" line that separates the haves from the have nots...

The original Mexicans where Black sis, so i view this as the most high unifying the 12 tribes of the scripture "cant say the word or youtube takes down my comment". This is spiritual and not by chance in my opinion. We are the same people at the end of the day once you do a lil studying.

Hi Tremaine, I do need to dig a little deeper but I have read some things about the Veracruz area in particular. I am always open for more learning.

I have a close friend who lives in Merida well in the suburb and the community is aware of the growing number of blacks. They are becoming concerned mostly because of what they have seen on the news and on their phones regarding black lives matter riots and attitudes. Alot have sent letters to their local goverments to keep watch. The neighbors are already upset and be careful they are not going to stand for any of that nonsense. When he told me about what the community was talking bout I was like omg..but he says they saw all the riots and how black people with white destroyed stores and towns....I am just letting you know whats happening in Merida. Be careful Mexico is not the United states..these people will protect their homes and families..so just rememebr you are in their country you dont have the democratic party to spread your bullshit.

There is so much sad about this response. One, not once did I mention anything political and you won't hear me mention anything political because many of us who are leaving our home country for other lands abroad are over the political climate and we're not trying to drag it to other places. Secondly, the idea that I am here to spread "bullshit" is....well, bullshit and says you've not watched many of my videos. Lastly, if your friends are making assumptions about blacks based on TV, I'm glad to know that my friends are not making assumptions about Mexicans based on what we see on TV and are still living in and loving Mexico. Neither of us are depicted in a good light yet, you know good people who are not at all what we see on TV. Please keep your misjudgment to yourself, I had enough of that in the U.S. based on my skin color, one of the things I have enjoyed here is the ability to live without THAT nonsense. That's the nonsense that needs to be squashed. Don't believe everything you see on TV, I certainly don't or I would have bypassed Mexico.
