My dad died from dementia in February2020. He he couldn't tell me what my name was. But I could put this song on, and he would perk up and sing every word of this song, and tell me the names of every member of this band. What an evil illness dementia is. I'd sacrifice 10 of my years to have one good week with my dad again. 😪

Very touching story. Thank you for sharing. May your dad RIP. My aunt had dementia/Alzheimer's. She loved music. The key is to play the music they grew up with. May she RIP. My brother also passed away two years ago. He loved this group!! RIP

The entire ERA of Guess Who, Loving Spoonful, Blood Sweat and Tears etc was one of the greatest musicianship, writing, and simple yet effective production standards that seldom disappointed. Combined with the authentic soul music coming out of "tap" at full throttle and a vibrant folk music scene it was simply the best of everything.

Kirstyn Blake I too saw them in Rhode Island only the year was 1983, I was 17, and it was at an amusement park no longer in existence called Rocky Point. Also playing that day ... Steppenwolf, Blue Oyster Cult, and Aerosmith. Although the latter only managed to get halfway through their first song after the lead singer, Steven Tyler, collapsed and fell off the stage into the audience. Later we found out he had overdosed and was rushed to a hospital. If memory serves the song he was singing when he dropped was "Lighting Strikes" ... and apparently it did. Good times. Rock on Kirstyn, it's clear you have a cool dad.
@Kbp4eva16 жыл бұрын
DeadBunny69 I wish I could have seen Aerosmith live! And yeah, my dad has some great taste in music. He's the reason for me listening to 70's/80's music. We went to the concert and he was so happy. He's a great concert buddy. :)

Even as a six year old kid, I remember this as my favorite song. Hearing sugar over and over at that age is intoxicating. I would hum those lyrics all day and night after hearing it on the radio. Little did I know what sugar really meant. So, here we are 50 years later to the month when this was released. It's just as catchy now as it was then. It's relevant to what I was experiencing as a child as it is an adult. This is the power of great timeless music.

I grew up listening to all genres of music and learned over the years that if you listen real closely, and yes, you might have to a few times to understand the message that is being sent through the lyrics of the song. And if you get the message and understand it then you can learn to appreciate it. I always tell my kids that music is much more than somebody writing words on paper and coming from someone's mouth. It's also gotta have the right sound to go along with it to make sense. I think songs from the 50's through the 70's were the best of their time. 80's,90's awesome,2000- present gets even better . Sorry for the long reply, but I enjoy music and I get in a good mood when I hear songs that still get played even to this day. 😎 Rock on
