I have a feeling that a LOT of younger people watch these like they are at Studio 54 in 1978. Also; some people missed this scene by only 5 or 10 years. Others by 40 years. I was about 27/ 28 in 1989 and was in the city a lot BUT I was not "clubbing" because I was more into Rock not disco. I was also in the closet. @@KarlSnarks

As soon as I saw the video about Michael Alig being a murderer, I immediately thought, "I bet Nelson had footage of him in his vlog," and he ends up being the birthday boy in this video. Unreal. Well, at least Nelson didn't live to see what became of his friend or the death of the Club Kid scene. Rest in Peace to Angel Melendez.

Then Brandywine says she is working at Wendy's . I remember how she seemed to be one of the popular ones in the videos. That made me feel a lot better. Idk why I am sharing that I just felt moved by it. It's cool that so many different kinds of people hung together with no judgment.

In any big city-- it was VERY common to see a "mixed bag" of people w/ different careers ( there was ALWAYS one guy / girl that was ALWAYS unemployed and looking, as well as "boring office cube jobs" . I knew people that were doormen in apartment buildings , people that worked in the TV and Movie costume industry, and people who worked for United Cerebal Palsy . So yeah- REAL mixed bag. it was his JOB to be there. He was a nightlife columnist. How do you expect him to get stories to write about without actually being at these events? Go back and watch the Geraldo videos with all the club kids, it was obvious that Michael Musto was nothing like the rest of the them, and was usually the only one who could form a complete sentence. NYC during the 70s 80s and 90s was such an interesting, creative, dirty, grimy, dangerous and fun time. But to watch some of these people and not see the writing on the wall that this scene wasn't gonna end well was obvious. Of course hindsight is 20/20 but you can clearly see this wouldn't end well. I don't think anyone thought it would end the way it actually did. But whether it was the drugs or a suicide or the FEDS going after Gatien, you could see where it was headed
