‘Experienced beginner’; back to it after a 10 year lapse with illness, kept my hand/eye in with clays now need own gun for clays & rough. Your wild card 20 Beretta is was I’ve gone for 2nd hand. Always thought “Browning” but this feels natural / better. Just the best balance & fit for a big guy but more polite than a 12. Wish I’d got a 20 back in 1984 - older & wiser. Helpful channel thank & keep it up.

I think that for sub gage side-by-sides Fausti Dea is very hard to beat. I have a 28 bore I use for everything and it has been ultra reliable. I have shot up to a 28 gram load for pheasants but usually a 22 gram load for doves.

Hello The Gun Shop, and thank you for your videos :) I am Danish hunter, living in Italy, and i'm looking to buy myself a solid SbS. Now i understand the SbS general english based tradition and market, but is there anything decent you think i might find floating around on the Italian market? ps. i was surprised to see just how many hunt with semies down here. Unlike in Denmark, or the UK, it isnt looked down upin at all.... pps. I'm not the tallest guy (about 170 cms) if that matters in terms of what too look out for. (y) Once again, thank you for your help and your videos :) Claus

What light weight guns do you end up having come back to haunt you and what is their usual problem? I'm looking at a 2015 Franchi Instinct SL that is still under warranty that I might buy unless there is a reason that I should avoid this gun.

Johnny, Really enjoy your videos from here in the US. A few quick questions. How have you modified you mk38? I primarily quail hunt. I’m guess the mk38 would not be a good gun for that. Your thoughts? Also, do y’all ship to the US? Thanks

Hi I'm shooting a B725 S1 12ga because that's what everyone else does! O/U I mean. I have say I do hit more with the O/U than I do with the my SxS, which is a Ugartechea 25" 12ga. I think it is a upland classic model 30 but I have no proof of that. It is a 1972, I sure of that. I also have a Baikal O/U because it's made of old tanks and kremlin benches. Lastly I have a webley scott bolt action 410 just for fun. Great videos, keep up the good work.

Good morning! My name is Ignacio Rodriguez, I am writing to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I wanted to ask you a question, about the Rizzini S2000 Sporting, with which Beretta model does it compete, 686, 687, 692 or 694? And if they are of better or worse quality than the Berettas of that range. Here in Argentina, the Rizzini is $1,500, cheaper than the Beretta 694. Is it worth buying it or should I go for the Beretta 694? From already thank you very much. Greetings.

I cant remember the many thousands of missed shots in my life and I am now in my mid seventies, I have two game guns both vintage 12 bores. The first is for organised shoots so when I mis I mis with real style, Well I think that my side by side is far more interesting to look at a Purdey snap action Bar in Wood far more interesting than the old man using it. My other is a Baikal u/o twin triggers choked extra full an full, the woods not bad with a silver oval so looks more up market than it is. Brilliant for Pigeon shooting and high birds.

I do enjoy your enthusiasm over the guns you handle. One day how would you like to describe my gun I am sure you could have many of your followers enjoy it with you. Maybe go through the design of a hundred and fifty year old early breach loading 12 bore still in use and proof with Damascus barrels "Snap Action Bar in Wood Purdey" described by some as one of the finest looking guns made. Not that many of these guns in usable condition around these days.

Hi Johnny, In Australia we have MK38s, and more popular for us are the MK10 Mirokus, I have 2 x MK10s, a grade 3 black action with prince of wales grip (possibly Aus issue only) as my field gun, and a gd4 limited as my club gun, both have the wide rib, do you have MK10 in the UK. Love your channel, keep up the great work, Cheers Craig

I will when I work out how to attach one, Tech Savvy is not a strength I posses. I believe the MK10s are all still the same steel action, maybe it has something to do with the chokes or configuration. ribs are that tramline you spoke of in another video.

English gun culture and American gun culture are so different. You must have to be pretty wealthy to hunt there. Also, I’ve been shooting all my life and I’ve never ‘broken’ a shotgun. You make it sound like it happens all the time, is it just from overuse?

Nothing wrong with double triggers. Game shooting should be done with a side by side period. There are some twits shooting at pheasants ( on KZfaq) with number fives and four's with trap gun's.First of all ,if you can't kill a pheasant with a number 6 ,it's out of range. This seems to be todays problem,first they want to learn to shoot clays,the next thing is the want to shoot live game. I must admit,I got fed up years ago, jumping into ditches for safety ,as most of these convert's have no idea of safety in the field. As far as I am concerned,a sporting gun is a side by side . O&U were a German thing ,as they shoot mainly going away game. Leave the competition guns at home ,and play the sporting game.
@tgsoutdoors
@tgsoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
possibly sensible, although a 5 will kill a late season pheasant a lot cleaner than a 6, wouldnt you agree?
@12dougreed
@12dougreed 6 жыл бұрын
The Gun Shop Hi thanks for the reply. I must admit I am old school. I have been shooting game for about 60 year's. I now live in Asia, that's the reason I watch shooting videos. Our shooting was very traditional. A farmers shoot , that I ran and owned for a time. We shot 3 times a year, averaging 70 birds ,that were mostly wild . For us a high curling bird was worth more than any hand fed release pen jumbo 😀 so number fives were out. I still think you can do the job with a six Most of us shot with quarter and half . Also some were still using the 1960s trend 26 inch and fully open. Just to finish off A friend of ours always used seven's ,I have never seen him miss a pheasant. Mind you he did win the British open and the world. So maybe it's all down to shooting skills. At the end of the day, the idea is to eat the bird!! Personally I prefer to eat hen bird's ,that have not been shot to pieces by over weight ,and unnecessary loads ( if you are playing the game). Most of the convert's I have met do not seem to like pheasant They would prefer half a chicken with chips, or a chicken Tika masala. My sporting friends and I love to eat pheasant,and most game meat, surly that at the end of the day that is the point of killing in the first place? If not just stick to breaking Clay's, nothing wrong with that, it's a great sport.
@tgsoutdoors
@tgsoutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
I think barrel length is purely fashion based, and choke is only important when matched with a particular cartridge load. I think pheasant height is a very regional concept, a friend from Norfolk used to tell me how all pheasants could be killed with 7 1/2's, after standing under some proper high birds (not stratospheric, just pheasants pushed over a good valley), and tickling some, he soon moved onto my 32gr 5's with much more humane effect. Although most pheasants will die with a 6, a 5 gives me more confidence to kill a bird cleanly in any scenario.
@12dougreed

The Gun Shop Yes I agree. I must admit one looks like a bank robber with a 26 inch these days. Where I live there is a part of town. (Bangkok Chinatown ) that has 37 gun shops ,but very very limited on shotguns. Hand guns are their main product, well worth a visit. Your shop looks fantastic.

bosstube this is referring to English traditional game shooting, where class and tradition is paramount. A Semi or even a pump would be considered “not sporting” and would be discouraged. I know what you mean as a North American though. I shoot a Remington 1100 for general hunting where a shotgun is due, and a J.P. Sauer and Sohn sidelock double for upland game and sporting clays. I get what you mean from a North American perspective, but from an English perspective which I see from as well, it just wouldn’t be appropriate. Cheers

@@canucktactical9890 My uncle was our state's trap champion and he shot an 1100, too. As a teen, he taught me using his gun. It was easy on a young body. In the field, I also use a 20 ga. Sauer, esp. for pheasants. Unfortunately, like so many of them, it has 65 mm. chambers. Superb gun. You have good taste.
