The Denel Rooivalk, originally known as AH2 and CSH2, is a South African attack helicopter produced by Denel Aviation. Its name, "Rooivalk," is derived from the Afrikaans term for "Red Falcon," a reference to the lesser kestrel bird.
The Rooivalk project was initiated by the Atlas Aircraft Corporation, a predecessor of Denel Aviation, in early 1984.It is closely linked to the development of the Atlas Oryx transport helicopter, and both aircraft share their origins with the SA 330 Puma. They began development simultaneously.
