'The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals' is a musical horror-comedy by StarKid Productions. It was funded through Kickstarter and had its premiere run in Los Angeles, CA in October, 2018. It features a book by Nick & Matt Lang, and music & lyrics by Jeff Blim.

I love the idea that the aliens chose the right hero but in the wrong parallel universe. There is a Paul, somewhere in the multiverse, who has seen every musical and loves them all, and that Paul will never live the dream of a musical world. His influence is so strong, though, that every Paul still sees every musical.

He's one of the main characters in the new show, but has been recast since Robert manion isn't currently working with them. Same character, new actor and more prominent role. What they're talking about in the other comments is the mess that is the hatchetfield timelines. I believe, if I remember correctly, Hannah is the youngest character born before the splitting point and/or was born just before/at the splitting point, meaning everyone born before her would technically be the same person in every timeline, sort of? However it's been a while since I actually looked at the current consensus or confirmed canon of how it works so I could be off. But yeah, hot chocolate boy is pete

okay paul is my most favourite character in this musical so lemme gush abt him real quick because something i picked up on upon rewatching is how protective and brave he is when it comes to the ppl he cares abt like,, he seems incredibly introverted and like very much not a people person but he cares SO much about his friends. when he realises Emma isn't singing like everyone else, his first instinct is to take her to a safer spot of the coffee shop and tell her about what's going on. the moment Emma's coworkers start to get all creepy and musical-y he jumps out of his chair and is ready to run to save Emma at any second. when Sam shows up and starts singing he instantly grabs onto Charlotte, leads her away from her infected husband and keeps a protective arm around her for as long as he can. when Bill finds out his daughter is trapped at Hatchetfield High, he says himself that he knows it's likely Bill won't survive while trying to save her, so he goes with him. Paul has as much experience with guns and fighting singing zombies as Bill does, yet he still goes to be there to protect Bill as much as he can. when McNamara tells him abt the helicopter he's instantly asking if he can save Emma too, and even though he didn't ask about Ted in that moment, when he goes back he's instantly fully ready to save Ted too Paul is such a hero from beginning to end and i absolutely love the way he was written. he's not super loud about his confidence and doesn't seem like he considers himself to be brave, but he's so sure of himself as a person and the moment there's any sign of danger he's front and centre ready to fight even if he doesn't know how to because he wants to help his friends. I LOVE HIM

His character is well written. He is the perfect embodiment of "courage", capable of doing things even when it scares the shit out of him. So while he is not a very confident or powerful hero, he is someone who can choose to put his fear aside and do what's right. It's a very admirable trait to have.

Just to make something abundantly clear because it gives me chills thinking about it now, every character except Paul got their "musical want" by the end of the story, but all with a twisted outcome from the Chorusites. (Is that a good name for the monster?) Ted was "saved" by the government, Charlotte "fixed" her marriage, Hidgens both reunited with his "college friends" and got to perform his musical, Bill got his "daughter" back and (literally) reconnected with her, and Emma "died" outside Hatchetfield.

I love how "La Dee Dah Dah Day" is basically Pokey having a blast confusing and making fun of Paul, effectively playing with his prey instead of assimilating him straight away because it's so much fun to drag it out and torture this guy. Same for "What do you want, Paul?", Pokey already knows, he just wants Paul to admit what it is before it's inevitably ripped from him. Paul wants Emma, he dies trying to save her, and his body is used to taunt her and kill her afterwards. And, Paul's literal worst nightmare and the one thing he absolutely does NOT want is anything related to musicals, and he's forced by this Eldritch creature to live the rest of his existence inside a musical hivemind. The writing in this musical still drives me crazy to think about to this day.

I think I finally got the true meaning behind everything in this when I watched it twice in a row as a continuous loop. They say this is the last remaining story to tell, not because it's the only thing that hasn't been turned into a musical in the ironic sense, but literally it is the last story of resistance the aliens faced before ending the world and its infecting new people through the musical itself, using the puppets of hatchetfield in a sick twist of tragic irony.
