Just a drop or two of plain dish soap on a fine ball sanding pad .. Wet the pad and scrub the ball a bit and black will roll off the ball. Dish soaps are made to pull out oils .. Doing this before you leave the house each play night normally last the life time of the ball as most people replace balls every season due to getting beat up badly in the return systems and hitting things in the pit. I used to carry a bottle of cleaner with me too that I would wipe the ball down with before putting it into the bag at the end of the match. High performance balls are made of materials that soak up the oil on the ball. As the ball rotates down the lane with its sideways rotation the ball will have this "Track Pattern" they was trying to show in the video. If the ball is drilled correctly each rotation of the ball should rotate the balls surface contacting the lane on a fresh part of the ball .. When a clean ball comes back up the return you can see these track lines on your ball. You should wipe the ball each time you pick it up to wipe this track off otherwise the ball will soak that oil up and over time a ball can become oil soaked.. At that point the ball will slowly start to lose its ability to soak up oils and the ball will grip the lane less . The goal is to try and get that oil out of the ball so it does not get to the oil soaked point.. Keeping your bowling ball clean is the best thing you can do to extend the life of the ball.

Very helpful and interesting. I mean, I have heard comments about how it's normal or ok to have the track left on one's bowling ball along with "lane shine" needed to get a bowling ball broken in after buying it. Imagine not cleaning your track after years of league play and just letting the oil and grease build up in that one area. Then you go out and buy a new ball and repeat the process. I bet this video will also help us save a lot of money. Thank you very much to the Jan Pro Shop for this video.

Nice never seen it done this way.. will try it.. Also, make sure you wash your hands. I noticed my face breaking out since I started bowling. I touch my face a lot and in the areas that's where i am having pimples. Bowling 3 times a week and then messing around with my ball in yard and on couch. I guess the oil and lanes are nasty.

Always use gloves when you use cleaner, if you are not already doing so.

It isn't the cleaner it the lanes. Our Lanes after you throw once my hands are nasty. My hubby is constantly telling me to stop touching my face. Like I'm 5. 😂 I also lick the tips of my 2 fingers 😋🤮😂 idk why. I'm a mess.

I dont thibk that has anything to do with the ball being drilled correctly.. only way the ball touches different part of the ball is your release. Some people can change there hand to change the the way the ball rotates making it a low track and kr a high track. If you use a certain ball alot uou are going to have little scars in the ball from the ball going over the same spot. So im confused there what you mean there. I lkve the dawn soap cleaning. Thats what i use dawn soap warer and rubbing alcohol mixed in my dawn spray bottle i just make my kwn spray for dishes and my balls. I like how he put paper towels and sat till they dried. I wonder if that works better. As it dries i huess it sucks up in to the paper towel?

How does this method compare to using say a ultra sonic cleaning device? I know the detox machine is expensive but I bought a heated ultrasonic cleaner off ebay that was wide enough but not deep enough so I just run it on 5 minute cycles and rotate it a few times and it seems like it does a good job. They had them as cheap as like 120 USD on ebay last I looked.

Would this be considered adding a foreign substance to surface of the ball tho? Im sure that tackyness would would dissipate with some elbow grease....no?

If the ball cleaner is USBC approved I would think it's fine. It's no secret that bowling balls are porous, so it should be expected that they absorb a bit of ball cleaner.

It won’t harm the ball. The pore is supposed to soak those cleanser(detergent) to remove the oil.

Why not do the whole ball. Isn't it technically illegal to only altrr part of the ball? Great hack otherwise.

It is technically legal, as long as the whole ball has the same surface. You just want the oil on the flare to be extracted so that the ball can read the lane accurately.

@@johnnyrock852exactly. That’s why the title says detox before games. Unless forced to wait between game 1 and game 2 why would anyone take a 15min break to clean a ball? It’s considered a strategy to call for a re-rack to put your opponent on tilt with a small delay. This would make you lose your tempo

Between games? You cannot use liquids between games. Am I missing something? "The key to the rule change is that you cannot have any foreign material on the bowling ball and you can not clean your ball when score is being kept."

BEFORE DURING and BETWEEN are DIFFERENT WORDS with COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MEANINGS. This guy never said to do this between or during games. Why would anyone in their right mind take a 15 minute break between or during games?
