This has always been my favorite out of the Suntory trip (hakushu/yamazaki/hibiki) because back in the day it was significantly cheaper than Hibiki and I just like the smoke compared to the Yamazaki. Sadly with the Japanese whiskey rush, the twelve went from being 50-60 bucks a bottle to hundreds. Looking forward to it being a more reasonable price again in the future.

I have a bottle of Hibiki Harmony (paid $80) and enjoy the hell out of it, but haven't had the opportunity to try the Hakushu 12 yet (haven't seen it in the wild at all yet). I've also heard good things from others so it's on my list. Had a chance to buy the Yamazaki 12 ($120) and passed because I was about to fly home and already had the Harmony in my checked bag, which was full. Great review as always gents.

You know with that concept of 2022 being the year of craft distilleries, you guys can also hope to boost the economies of various industries. People have been complaining that everything you review is unobtainable. During a pandemic, whisk[e]ys that ARE obtainable would most likely be shipped/delivered to the enthusiast's door (heeding laws that govern state-to-state shipping of alcohols). So let's hope for more covid-free mobility of people, more travel, more hotel stays, more cars filling gas tanks (or elec. charges), more patronizing of local businesses during that travel to enjoy craft distilleries all over the country. More airline flights. Heck, you guys can save the real working person's economy (not Wall Street's economy). I, for one, have already looked into checking out Austin (never been) especially to hang on your expansive decks, but only after going to Balcones in Waco first lol. I, for one, have visited one of my local places and have then mail-ordered from them. (Cooper's Daughter Spirits, NY State. Check out their Black Walnut Bourbon!!).

I really don’t drink much, always favored whisky, but because I don’t drink much had no idea what to get. Tried several bottles and didn’t hit anything I liked. Watched several of your videos and gave Redbreast 12 a shot- perfect! The best whiskey I have ever had! Going back to watch some of your other videos for more suggestions. Have you tried any of the Indian brands? The store clerk said Rampur was one of the up and coming distillery’s so I picked up a bottle of Rampur Asava at the same time, it will be interesting to compare to Redbreast 12. Thanks again for your videos. Now I want some Japanese whiskey!

I (Frank) had only watched half and came back for the rest. So many nice moments to enjoy. Scotch from Japan, Hobbiton and poignant hand slams that make me wonder if there should not be a special episode dedicated to the wood block. Think about without which we would have no armrest, place to slam hands or rest bountiful bottles of bodacious beauty. There would be no Rex's "dance around the wood block" nor Dan's giant paper weight nor magic hiding place for glencairn glasses, empty & emptier.

In short, Suntory ran out of high age barrels that goes into the Yamazaki line, so to ensure future availability they decided to limited and some years even stop bottling the Yamazaki line entirely. So the market went crazy for it. Marketers and international importing firms caught on to this, and basically started to advertise the Yamazaki in TV, on forums and etc., driving up the demand even more. This is not helped by Suntory's decision to change their harmony line and to the commercial failure of their other new-ish lines, making Yamazaki "the Suntory whiskey". Factor all these in and now it suddenly becomes a premium line and not the mid-high line it was supposed to be.
