This was the ultimate Universal Studios presentation. Virtually every street and standing set on the lot was featured. The guest stars are all Universal contract players who had all starred in or were at the time starring in series of their own. Even Jaws puts in an appearance! All brought to you by Glen Larson.
Ironically, the one person who has stayed continuously employed from this episode onwards is non-contract player Sandie Newton. Who? The tour guide who parlayed an acting career into the life of an ageless info-tainment reporter.
R.I.P. Dennis Weaver 1924-2006, J.D. Cannon 1922-2005, Casey Kasem 1932-2014, and Glen Larson 1937-2014.

My favorite show as a kid, was 8 yrs old when it debuted in ‘76. Watched it until it went off the air. EDIT: January ‘77, but I turned 8 in June of ‘76 so I was still 8 when it debuted so that’s why I said ‘76!

I was born in January of '76, so I missed the original run of the show. But I remember watching it when I was 4 or 5 when it was in syndication. I don't remember any of the episodes, but I definitely remember the opening theme.

I loved the books when I read them in the 80’s. The TV series was only broadcast once in the UK (at least I think so) the theme tune was perfect. I always remembered the melody. Its a shame that this is not rebooted but I suspect it would be regarded as too tame by today’s output.

Victor Field The late Casey Kasem imitated Columbo in an episode of this series. Also, the late Dennis Weaver and the late J.D. Cannon worked together in 'McCloud'.

Man when I was a kid I was so blown away by these guys. Was there anything that they couldn't do. Ride a Motorcycle, Sing, Ski, Fly, Surf. As for Casey Kasem, he is a true legend. He is the Son of Lebanese Immigrants who lived in Detroit. He attended Wayne State University which was the same School that Diana Ross's Father Fred attended and did time in the Army. He was on a local Kids show as a Clown then he did Shebang (owned by Dick Clark) and some of the Bandstnad Regulars would dance on that show as well most notably John "Famous" Hooks and June Strode. In 1970 he started the American Top 40 Countdown an in the 1980's he had America's Top Ten on TV and his Announcer Merrill Schindler would be to him what Charlie O'Donnell would be to Dick Clark. Each year he paid homage to Jackie Wilson on his Radio Show and sadly enough died on Father's Day June 16th.

I just re-read his Wiki - I'm just blown away by how awesome this man was. So ahead of his time, he campaigned for such causes as animal welfare, the environment, fighting racism, promoting non-violent conflict resolution, protecting the rights of unhoused people, and speaking out for everyone's need for basic affordable housing! Gosh - I wish I could have met him when he was still alive... And to think that literally the only thing I really knew him from was voicing this silly Shaggy character from Scooby Doo, lol! That is so cool that he dared to negotiate for his character to become vegetarian in-canon. Would've been cool to have a crossover episode where Shaggy meets Lisa Simpson and they become friends.

@@dollcefina Yes, I had no idea he was Lebanese. In America Paula Abdul & Tiffany (The Mall Singer) have lebanese blood. In the UK it's Simone Lahbib (whose paternal grandfather was a Shiek), whose mother is scottish. She's known for playing various roles whehter it's Helen Stewart on Bad Girls or on Wire In The Blood, Another person who is Lebanese is Samia Ghadie Smith who has been playing Maria Sutherland Connor on The UK Soap Coronation Street on and off since around 2000.

I oved how they changed the covers to reflect he times. Just out of curiousity did those Book Covers that we see in the opening Sequence actually exist. Shaun Cassidy handled his Fame a lot better than his Brother David and did you know that Teena Marie was once his opening act. Casey Kasem was also a legend as the Man who taught the world to count to 40 Backwards and then as one of many Cartoon Voices most notably Shaggy then even making his Bones working for Dick Clark on a Show called Shebang. Each year on his Radio Show he also paid Hommage to Jackie Wilson who like himself was from Detroit, MI.

I'm re-watching these for the first time since they were originally aired back in the 70's. They're pretty bad, but I still read the occasional book, they're like time machines, and can transport me back to when I first read them. A perfect bit of nostalgia from my childhood.

I really loved the rapport between Joe & Frank. Although Frank was Older at 17 or 18 depending on The Books he always treated Joe like an equal. Their Parents & Aunt were also terrific. Fenton Hardy knew how to draw the line between being a Friend/Parent to his Sons, Mrs. Hardy loved her Sons but they weren't "Mama's Boys", while their "Maiden" Aunt was also terrific but she never overstepped her boundaries with The Boys.

@@chuckcollins The blame goes to the viewers. The ratings were consistently lower with the Nancy Drew episodes, as there was no Shaun Cassidy for his fans to go ga-ga after. The producers decided to resolve the problem by having all three together at the start of Season 2. Unhappy with her role being reduced, Martin left the series, and was replaced by Janet Louise Johnson.
