Being a single dad ain't no walk in the park.
Everything is stripped away from you - kids, partner and possibly your job.
Where does that leave you? Who are you without those things?

A big salute to the father’s raising children on their own . I give credit to where it’s due. I use to go to school with a girl who’s father raised her on his own he was a great man to her . I never heard her speak of her my mom it was always “ my dad “ . Coming from a two parent home I never understood the single parent thing until now . I’m a single parent of two young toddlers no it’s not a easy thing and single mothers do get a lot of praise but I’m here to tell all of the men raising their kids single or married you all are really kings and continue to claim your thorn God bless .

I made mistakes and my daughters mother kidnapped her away. For 10 years I spent everyday living for the hope I would get the chance to have her in my life again. Becoming the best version of myself I could for her. And, now I am taking over full custody after having primary custody for a year. Don't ever give up hope!

My daughter is 6 and I have been a single dad for 4 years now. I have half custody and my ex and and I don't see eye to eye on anything. Her house is do whatever you want, go to bed late, eat junk food and my house is structured and focused on development. Needless to say, my daughter prefers her mom's house. Aside from that, the toughest thing I work through is my own self identity . My life revolves around my daughter and providing for her. I don't even find pleasure in things I use to be attracted to, like traveling and dating, sports, etc. When I don't have my daughter I come home, sit down and don't know what to do with myself and most of the time I just go work. Your video really resonated with me on several points.

Wow, that's powerful. Please reach out to a qualified therapist, because it's concerning that you don't find any joy in the hobbies that you used to. While your daughter, a child, sees the world through a child's eyes, it is not in her best interests to run the roost and do what she wants at her mother's house. While your situation being at odds with your child's mother over everything is deeply aggravating, you are doing the right thing by setting common sense boundaries and a healthy structure.

Here is a bit of advice I hope will be helpful to you Basics of fathering 1. Tell and show your daughter you love her in a way she understands. That there is a special place in your heart that belongs to her and her alone and no matter what you will be there when she need you. 2. Be honest with her in a gentle manner 3. Let her be honest with you. You are a human being and you will make mistakes. When she does have the courage to tell you what you did wrong how you respond will set an example for how she will approach her problems in the future, with things she knows will probably disappoint you. It’s important she knows you are someone she can confide in when she has such problems. Now here is some advice on how you can help yourself grow 1. Go to a therapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist despite all the stereotypes said around these professions they are very helpful and make life more understandable 2. Ask yourself what do you want out of life? What are the things or activities that would make you happy? 3. Make good and dependable friends. 4. Be sure to self conscious and self aware of your actions and don’t be ashamed or forget to validate yourself on the good things you’ve accomplished and have done. I hope this advice helped

I’m a single dad but I couldn’t feel less like a dad. My daughter was born last October and the mom and I were never together, more or less a one night stand. She’s keeping me from my daughter every way she can and it’s been well over half a year since I’ve seen my daughter. I’m going through the legal process now of trying to get into her life and it’s honestly taking it’s toll. I have no one to vent to about it that truly understands because my parents were together the majority of my life. And while I feel I know what I like and who I am without her it’s the fact I don’t know the person I can be with my daughter. I feel like I’m missing her grow up and time is flying. Just needed a vent. Don’t know how else to get it out

I don’t know if your a praying man but if you truly want to be her dad , you will be … it takes time … Trust this, the mother may not want you right now but your kid will want you soon enough …. No kid in this world doesn’t want to be with their father who shows he loves them ….. A mother can’t take that away, even if she’s trying to for now This will change over time Fight your best legally to get some visitation, even if supervised given the babies age Once you have supervised visitation, you can get more time as your kid gets older This isn’t a sprint , it’s a marathon You don’t know what tomorrow may bring Stay close as you can and pray for it to happen It will at the right time Until then work and have a good life and be a strong man ! The world needs them and your kid will need you too

She’s a narcissist. Does the mother try to reach out to you? Most of the time it’s for a reason. If you can get her served a subpoena then you can get your kid in most states. The hard part is finding out where she lives. Sometimes a private investigator can do it. Just make sure you have a process server that can serve her.

I have so much respect to single dad's , my dad has been one for 10 years of my oldest sister. Then he met my mum who put my other sister and me on the world . However she constantly went on 'vacation' fooled around and didn't even want us. My dad taught me even all the girl stuff I needed to know and used to brush my hair . My mum had a hairdresser cut it all off . Because of her I wore ridiculous clothes on one school photo and bullying got worse. Dad was furious and so he chose and bought us clothing instead. Single fathers and those with an emotionally abusive spouse are in my eyes God given .. they're always there when you need a hug and someone to talk to. Sending much love to every single one of you guys.

Sort of going through this minus a couple differences. Luckily for me I have my beautiful daughter in my life fulltime as her mother passed in October 2020 due to drug addiction. Everything this man has said rings true minus the situation of losing children in a custody battle. Stay strong dads , our children need us in their lives no matter what. Dont let you other ex rule your life as well as your children's. Do the right thing and the truth shall prevail. Sending good vibes to any single father watching this today , feeling lost and uncertain of the future!

@Big B mate take it one step at a time. Do you have an AVO to protect yourself and children? If you engage with DOCS or Brighter Futures and can show you've protected your children, you stand a greater chance of gaining custody. Children witnessing abuse are at serious risk of harm. You need to demonstrate you've tried to protect them and you're willing to take them out of a dangerous situation. I'm lucky to have the support of my parents. Her spitting at my face and withdrawing financial support for the daycare was the last straw for me. She no longer contributes anything to the home and bills. Seek good legal advice. If you have property make the initial consult easier by getting a few market appraisals first. I'm in that process and quietly getting ready to engage the services of a lawyer to understand my financial position, likelihood of custody, what visitation looks like etc. The scariest thing for me is thinking I won't be with my son everyday. But because she has a history of violence, I think I stand a high chance of gaining custody. I have the reports from my time engaging with Brighter Futures and the steps I undertook to bring my son to safety in the past. I think one of the saddest things is trying to come to terms with your child growing up between 2 homes. As they have a right to know both parents.

She is making me out like I am a bad father and I don’t tell anyone the truth about her because I don’t want to put my 6 year old son in any stressful situations. I’m struggling hard with only seeing him for a night a week while she , The lier , the cheater , the evil gets to have all these memories with him . I’m lost! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m a single dad of five kids trying to sort out the mess of a situation after divorce. I’ve got sole custody of them and I have had to take time off work to take care of them. I’ve managed to make a bunch of progress, climbing 30 K out of debt, no longer having to visit the food bank after we were financially devastated. The difficult thing is trying to get back into a routine that works, trying to get back to work and figure out a way to take care of the little ones when I can’t be home for them. It’s difficult to because I find as a man you get very little sympathy. Most people are like well you know it’s your fault for choosing her. I’ve had to deal with the pain of the person I once loved and thought I knew turned out only to be a façade of who she really was. Life is better now, and we are getting back on track however the logistics of trying to maintain work and caring for the kids all at the same time is Massive.

You stay strong and be MEN brothers. You carry that damn burden....no matter how hard or unfair. Why? Your kids will carry it if you won't. They will blame themselves and hate themselves. The system is garbage yes, and unfair...but your sons and daughters, they are caught in the trap....often a helpless trap that ignores their quiet little voices. Do all you can to help them. Don't worry about your ex-wife. Yep, she moved on (they ALL do with little to no consequence), she is irrelevant. It's the kids. THEY didn't want you to go...THEY don't understand why mommy is trying to replace you. They have no clue why they can't can't see you....it's her. It's not their fault...do what you can kings. Just DON'T GIVE UP.

My wife of 16 years and 48 days officially divorced me on July 20th. I’ve been on my own for about 3 weeks now. I did not want the divorce. I did not cheat but I did not love her as good as I should have. I had depression up until 2 years ago when she filed on me. She would cry asking me to get help and it never registered in my brain. Not until something drastic changed my life. I hate myself for it everyday and feel sad even when I have my girls with me. I can’t stop thinking of my ex wife. Crazy thing is, is that the last months together we finally got our marriage right. We were showing love and respect and putting the other first. It was all so natural. So much so that she wasn’t sure she wanted me to move out. Now that I’m out she is more standoffish. She says she is happy. I know I’m not. And not sure if and when I will be. I’m mentally exhausted by the end of the day and the pain is so bad. I would not wish this on anyone. Trying to stay strong but I question myself sometimes on how long I can maintain this. Just keep trying to be the best dad for my girls and remind myself it will be worse for them if I was not here.

Man this hits hard. I’m weeping. I’m a recovering alcoholic rebuilding my life and trying to be the best dad I can be. The mother of my son is the love of my life and knowing I’ll have to miss out on vacations, some holidays, and all that other good stuff is heart wrenching. Being around my son makes all those sad thoughts melt away. I can only hope I can learn to cope and ‘get over it’ with time.

I was a single dad of 2 rambunctious boys. I got sole custody in 97, when they were 2 & 4yrs old. It was tough and i was a solo longhaul trucker. Running SC to CA and back, nearly 3 times a month. Hiring a nanny was expensive but they went w/me in summer. It was hard on me and I pay for it physically now. But wouldn't change a thing, if i had it to do over. Being their dad kept me focused and made a better man of me.

The sad thing is, that this only has 5000 views and 30 comments. Men go through the same struggles and have the same feelings as women. But the difference is that society says we can't show it, and it's so f***** up as a single father myself to look at this video and realize that this is the only way that I can get emotional. I can't even talk to my friends about this because of the judgment

If they're going to judge your situation then they're not really your friends. Friends support you when you need help. I am a single parent. I know what its like. Men hang out with the boys to play games, drink, watch sports, and shoot the breeze. But they don't talk about stuff like this. A shame. I tried to start a local group for single fathers and there was no interest. Its hard. Men are not cultured to respond to things like this. Even thought they know they need the help they think it makes them look weak.

I just avcept it and laugh it off but deep inside i want to curl into a ball and leave society. It feels as if I have 0 self worth. My daughter was my purpose for living and now that im deployed im detached for my only reason living. I hope i can move on with this and be proud of who i am in a few months but rn i just wanna end it all. At the end of the day who loves and appreciates a single father ?

Not all of us end up being left. We become the ones who leave because they've grown fed up with violence and abuse. The anger and damage to our belongings becomes too much. I don't want my 3 year old son to keep growing up in a home where he witnesses his mother talk to his father like trash, kick and break belongings (including our son's toys) etc. The breaking point for me was when she spat in my face last night and said I wasn't worth respecting. This morning she cancelled her payments of our son's daycare and said she didn't care what happened to his education. I figured out how I can budget for it on top of all the other bills. Last night I anonymously called the cops and today they came around investigating. I told them how she spat in my face, broke the new range hood (I hadn't installed it yet), threw a container of oily food all over the bedroom floor (destroying my uni papers and books) and destroyed my son's toy supermarket. It's a breach of avo because she has one in place against her. 2nd one in 2 years. I haven't told her that I informed the police of the damage. I just made up the story that the neighbours reported it. Police believe so too. I didn't want to risk having more of my belongings damaged. I'm considering moving more stuff to my parents' home to protect it.

Here's a sadder thought. Having a Daughter. Enjoy the memories your making with her now, be the best father she'd want to share the world to and always show that she will always have your support because one day she is going to be throttled like a ragdoll in heat when she meets the love of her life. So when time comes you can always look back at better days.

Hey bois, I felt the same pain my first week after my ex ran off with my kids, so I understand the initial impact, its life altering, demoralizing, and for some of us unfortunately it's the last straw... I was fortunate enough to be able to focus my pain and anger into letting my ADHD brain take over. That's right. I have mental health gifts! and I didn't even know it at the time, yet it allowed me to obsess over how I could get my life with my kids back! By the end of the next week I was in the solicitor generals office demanding a court date to protect my children's mental health and financial well being or they would have to arrest me to get me to leave ( multiple factors come into play for this ). By the next Monday I was self representing in front of the family court judge, that could only say. "despite the status quo, that the mother should have initial care of the children, until the court deems otherwise adherent to a lawful agreement or judgement. It would clearly be in the children's best interest that the father have interim day to day care until the mother has sufficiently proven to the court otherwise" Words spoken over 3 years, and now I have full custody and we are kicking ass as a little team of 3👍 main take away lawyers will drain you, read the laws, learn the basics, it shows the judge you care more than most rather than leave this most important situation to a stranger, and best part only costs you the time of work for court dates, while the ex is mounting massive legal fees everytime you e-mail their lawyer lol 👍 your welcome, best of luck bois

I’ve had my son alone since he was 2, his mother died at 34 years old, he has behavioral issues, it’s hard, he’s 11 now, I haven’t had a night alone or a sitter in 3 years, I finally found a job that will let me come in after I get him to school, I have no help with him at all

I was a single father for the first 4 years of my daughters life. I lived with family this entire time so I had someone there and it was easy. I got a parenting plan so the mother could be in the moms life. I met a girl and fell in love. I Married her. I got my first house and life was good for a year at leased. One day I went to work and when I came home there where cops there so I was initially concerned, so I jumped out of my car and ran inside to see what my wife was doing to my surprise she had all of her things packed and she was loading them out into my carport. She wouldn’t talk to me or tell me what was going on at all I was completely lost and clueless as to what the situation was. She told me she was leaving and never coming back, my heart sank as I walked her walk away now keep in mind she had a baby when I got with her and I raised that little girl for two years of her life almost 3 actually. So for the first time in my life I’m all alone in my house and I have my five-year-old daughter every other week. I’ve been alone now for three weeks and it’s very hard. Some days I want to just end everything. And other days I have motivation and the urge to push on for the betterment of my life. But that feeling is rare most of the time I just feel like a zombie walking around just trying to accomplish simple goals cooking cleaning doing laundry etc. I have this urge and this feeling of despair like I’m gonna be alone for the rest of my life because how can I date again and put myself through this again. Things never seem to work in my favor I’m just a father who works a lot and comes home and does simple tasks around the house. It’s very scary sometimes and sometimes I just don’t know what to do with myself, I get really really depressed most days and I just don’t really wanna do anything but lay there and think about the past and things that I could’ve done differently. I know I have to look at the silver lining in things and I know that I have to push on for my daughter regardless of my situation. But my God let me tell you it is so hard.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It’s sounds like you are an amazing person. I think you did and are doing the best you can. Your wife that just walked out on you will someday regret it, trust me. She didn’t have the wisdom to know she had a great man. In the meantime, take care of yourself, your daughter, keep grinding you already have a home so I know you can provide. Strengthen your relationships with family or friends. The right women will come along but don’t ignore red flags of women. Don’t focus on her words, focus on her actions and her past. Good luck.

... Being a single father isn't the only thing that hurts. It's also not having a supportive family myself. I tried dating to gain a connection. But that's not going to help. I just can't start dating and everything will be better. I walk away from dating, friends and any associates because I can't heal a "gunshot" with a bandaid. I am torn, damaged, and only have my boys. My boys only have me, they don't know any other family members. They don't know their names or mention them. So every day I put my cape on and remind them that we only have each other and we must be supportive of each other.

First what you need to do is ACCEPT the reality. It can take a lot of time but it needs to be done. In order to move forward in life you need to realize where you at. It is ok to fail. We must make mistakes to become better versions of ourselves.

Why would it be hard if that’s what you want? People have kids with the wrong people everyday and waste their lives away in obligation to stay together for the kids, something that only leads to resentment. How about being a kickass version of yourself and see your kids as much as you can. That’s just my perspective from mentorship.

Single dad with full custody, getting it was hell on earth but I wouldn't have it any other way. There are several things that I didn't anticipate after becoming one. Being unable to relate to anyone is really difficult, I know no other single fathers and you feel pretty isolated in the experience. The financial aspect of things can be tough sometimes, I make a good living but it's still tight with no support. You have no one telling you if you are doing good or bad and I often wonder if I am a good parent, and beat myself up pretty hard sometimes. Society treats you like a pariah, I don't get invited to anything, I get looked at weird in public with my daughter sometimes, and former friend's wives started to see me as some kind of a threat, to that I don't really have an explanation. The loss of friendships was something I wasn't prepared for, because I am single, I am kind of left out as everyone is married or partnered. I don't mean to mitigate other men's struggles not seeing their kids, been there, and its enough to make you want to quit altogether. These are just a few of the things I experienced after becoming a full-time dad. Respect to all the dads out there trying for their kids.

Man this absolutely hit home. I'm glad to see somebody sharing awareness about this. It's the hardest thing I've ever dealt with in my life. I still get to see my blood daughter 3-4 days a week, but the other two that I raised for four years from the time they were babies, I only see maybe once a month for a couple hours and my strongest bond was with the six year old girl. Everytime I get to see her and she leaves I end up just completely breaking down. I already know what it's like to start losing that deep connection.

As a single dad who's lucky enough to be raising his own kids. I would advise any man who is at a point in life that he risks losing his kids: sacrifice it all pay what you need to pay, give her whatever needs to be given to keep the kids in your life for at least 50%. I kept the kids, that was about all I got to keep, 3years later, I've got everything back that I traded in and I have the kids. Fight like you have nothing to lose, cause you don't.. It's all or nothing, you will never fill the void of missing your kids, you will fill the void of missing your big house and shiny car. And don't worry, the best looking, big hearted loving women will line up at your door to be part of your life once word gets around what you did and why, promotions will present themselves the universe will bless you. People respect fighting men with a big heart and respect takes you a long long way.

Ugh I have my daughter full time it's hard as hell with everything in life that got affected by it. My ex left me 10 Months ago for someone younger and basically turned into a slag with all types of blokes. I got my heart broken while having to move back to mum's living on her sofa with my 14 month old daughter at that time. Now I still live at my mum's but I have a bedroom I share with my daughter, my mum looks after her while I work. Unfortunately I came to agreement with the ex for 50/50 . Unfortunately she hasn't had her overnight since November. My daughter has definitely developed massively since being with me full-time and is comfortable. But even still to this day her mothers house is terrible. When she was staying there or has been with her mother. It would put her out of routine or come back with horrible habits of hitting or biting.
