My backlog is so big at this point that I can wait years until a game is ten dollars other than select titles that I really love, Zelda, resident evil etc. but the longer you wait now the cheaper the game is and the more finished and patched it is. It's the late 80s early 90s all over again. Cheaper materials, lack of quality control, and advertising lies all wrapped in a more expensive package. It's bullshit and people deserve to be upset and fed up. Honestly that is why I hardly buy games at all now. I have gamepass ultimate and a MASSIVE backlog of games. I don't buy a damn thing day one anymore since Battlefield 5 launched. They burned everyone by releasing the game to preorders and didn't say the coop multiplayer wasn't launching for another 3 months until right at launch. Now I buy all of these games on sale with deep discounts. I want to play Jedi Survivor so bad, but the issues that game had tell me it is a $25 or less game. That's when I will buy it. Fomo has no place in my wallet after all the times publishers have burned us.

I reached the conclusion about a year ago that I pretty much don't care anymore. There is more than enough older classics to keep me busy throughout my lifetime and the same thing goes for movies as well. Not only has the quality dropped and prices have increased, but now I can't play anything or watch anything without propaganda shoved down my throat. For the most part everything gets a hard pass now.

@@ChesterMan-qd3xj - I was thinking about this recently and honestly it may be as far back as the PS3/Wii/360 generation. There's some interesting indie titles occasionally but in the AAA space it's really just been gradual improvements in graphics while releasing sequels to the same games the past 2-3 generations. Now budgets are so huge that nobody is afforded the chance to take risks so we're fed the same games over and over again. I'm not denying that there aren't some cool stories in games but the focus on cutscenes and story over gameplay continues to push me further away.

The biggest problem with the gaming industry are the investors and their unreasonable expectations. FF7 Remake vs Rebirth is a prime example. Rebirth is a better game, but is considered a “failure” because it was released on PS5 (with less than half the install size of the PS4) and because it had no pandemic to push it, it didn’t sell as well. Also the fatigue of over saturation in FF and other RPGs and blockbuster games was to blame. We just got FF16 last year and I still haven’t had a chance to play that one yet (couldn’t put down Tears of the Kingdom at the time).

Yet we just got ff7 rebirth and stellar blade and a huge bundle of games last year.. He falls victim in consumer society once again the bitches about nothing. Rgt isn't someone I take seriously when it comes to news, or any advice with current day issues. Just because he's milk toast and Luke warm on issuesand is unaware of the bigger problem nobody in his niche circle ever mentions.

I honestly don't mind the fluff of mini games in the world because it makes the current cities more alive, I guess there are other ways they can do it as well. But most of it is optional... But i can't stand how the look at rebirth likes it's a failure. Honestly I think it deserves to be in GOTY category this year

2 million sales in 6 weeks isn't bad, considering it's still selling for $70. Rebirth will continue to sell, same as all new releases, as more people buy a Playstation. Sony knows this. It hasn't been 4 years yet, everyone forgets how it always is in the first half lifespan.

1) Games need to stop focusing on insane graphics and be more about innovation. It should help games keep higher frame rates too. Art direction is why older games still look really good today. 2) The reason why there is less competition is because of game price/creation inflation. More people were in the race because it was affordable and you could take some L’s. That’s just not the case anymore. Which is Xbox and PlayStation are branching out from their consoles so they can make more revenue

Battle pass and season passes were a mistake Star Wars: new game here I don't want to remember its title because Ubi really hurt its audience once more. Now double with the price tag and content made exclusive as dlc Even fighting games feel less special. Because every major title has a battle or season pass attached for content and characters It is nutty enough just to have the game, but you barely have access to it unless you buy stuff Shareholders need to butt out, let creativity take over. I understand budgets are ballooning, and not in a good way. But there was a time to allow more experimental titles. Sadly all of those titles are rarely made anymore, unless it is super successful And consoles life span. Something needs to change to let a system show off what it can do. The last few years I have been accustomed to and accept missing out on many games and knowing I will never play them. Due to the direction gaming has gone to. I have significantly spent a ton less yearly on gaming. Plus I also have other hobbies that take my time. Im tired of hearing, seeing broken released games, chores to grind modes so that your tempted to pay ect. I just abandoned all of it and usually just buy later on major sales and at all costs avoid the micro grinds.

I think it might be far more societal than ever. Back in 2019, my big concern was that too many games were coming out, and there were some titles that we wind up passing up. As a Switch owner, I have managed to pick up some games that I passed up in the previous years. But I think the problem is far worse than ever when we all have far shorter attention spans than we used to. Case in point: I do want to finish up on a game that I've been playing. But at the same time, other games try to grab my attention span and I want to go play those instead. Worst case scenario is that I don't even bother to play a game because of that, or because of other things I want to do, like drawing, writing a fanfic, and other projects. Or even real life gets in the way. As someone who is aware of the Switch 2, I'm not as concerned about it as I'm supposed to. Why? I think I've gotten to the point where I have enough games to last the rest of my lifetime. Sure I know there won't be any games I will be able to finish. But I'll be glad to have played to my dying breath.

Games is the dumbest thing you can do because are you really getting your moneys worth by rushing through the game but then I always say that this hobby is very expensive And a lot of people don’t like spoilers a lot of people don’t like things being told to them before they can experience it themselves, and with social media being so rampant with their video sharing I think people finish off their games quickly due to spoilers, and due to talks online until that they’re not Being stolen of their surprise

The way I see it, backlogs are a thing many people should be looking at. I frankly don't get this fixation with getting showered with new things while ignoring the remaining 95%+ things gathering dust in a corner and pretending there's this contrived sense of scarcity people just make up to rationalize their outrage over relatively dry release periods, especially now when undercooked new things are notoriously broken on release.

I think this malaise has been bubbling in the background since the start of the 8th gen. I noticed that while first party PS4 games certainly looked better, I didn't enjoy them as much as PS3 games. Even then people were complaining about games getting dumbed down for normies. This was also the time scummy mobile business practices began to be incorporated into traditional gaming. GG 1.0 and ESG also dropped, which led to the industry over-correcting and hiring on a ton of these vapid activists. Skip ahead to today, and there's really nothing coming down the pipe that I'm excited about. I'm not spending $650 Canuck Kopeks for a PS5 just to play Stellar Blade. I don't play online, so none of these live services appeal to me. Most games now are too expensive, lazy, money grubbing, and broken. Investors keep trying to squeeze more blood from a saturated industry. The politics stuff is getting worse. Even Nintendo have been absolute butt nuggets lately with their crap customer service, broken controllers, online service shutdowns, and the war on emulation. It's all very exhausting. I've gone back to playing older stuff, and even there, almost entirely Japanese games. Definitely the worst it's been in my 30 years of gaming.

I think there's a number of things that are happening. First, the game industry is still recovering from the pandemic. Yes, the US opened up really quickly but a lot of nations didn't lift lockdowns and restrictions until relatively recently. This affected game release schedules and caused year 3 and year 4 games to get pushed back even further. Second, because of how Covid affected things, big companies are looking to make more money. One of the ways of doing that is remakes and remasters. Another way is live service games. This makes the AAA industry look as though it's stagnating, which, it kind of is. Companies aren't willing to take risks on new and original ideas because they just can't afford to. Third, when a company does actually make a big budget single player game, many times they lack the polish and quality that games of the past had because there's so much more going on in them now, they were made at a time where most people were working from home so there wasn't as much QA, and the publishers want to put them out before they're actually finished despite the developers telling them they need more time. Fourth, the indie scene is definitely over saturated. There's way too many games and way too many same template but slightly different theme games. Don't get me wrong, there's still original stuff out there, but it's few and far between in comparison to everything else.

Been a subscriber for a long time but never comment much, as a gamer that’s your age I think you hit the nail on the head. I thought i was losing interest in gaming just cause I was getting older have a family etc. but I think it’s just the lack of competition and inovation on developers part but I gotta play devils advocate and look in the mirror. I think a lot of gamers 30+ years old including myself are a little weary of games that don’t have a familiar track of quality now that were the ones spending our earned money. When I was a kid my parents would buy me a game for snes and if I didn’t like it oh well now if I spend 70 bucks on a game in this economy and don’t like it..well that sucks big that was my water bill for the month I just wasted. Honestly though I think the constant flood of games that no mortal man has enough time to play while also excelling to their fullest in life is a big problem too. When we were kids and had one system only a couple good games came out per year so you’d play them, beat them then play them again until the next good game came out plus if you remember they were 70 dollars back then for a brand new game so they were more of a luxury like when older generations only drank soda as a treat now people drink soda like it’s water. Idk I’m rambling cause I’m drunk but like you said it’s a very nuanced situation with the way the video game industry has become especially for older gamers that have experienced it from its starting point basically the NES era and onward

I think its a bunch of many factors. One of the main i feel is just desensitization to the games themselves even if they are great and compelling. As a kid i would replay the same game all the time because i loved it but also there was not as many other games being released at the same time. The market is so flooded with games being released every few weeks of all different genres added to the fact that we only have a certain amount of life to play them leads to constant switching and moving onto the next thing. I guess its just FOMO in a lot of cases

I feel its 50/50 like the gaming industry is in a rut but at the same time their are some bangers that keep it from fully dying but I don't normally buy games as soon as they come out and if I do its rare that I will play them right away especially if its a AAA. It normally take me a good few years before I even start playing most of the games I buy and those are the ones I tend to enjoy the most vs something like Dragons Dogma 2 which is a AAA and I'm sure is fun but it needs a lot of patches on PC so it kills the fun and it'll sit in my backlog for probably a good 2 maybe 3 years while games like Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will get played right away because its not a AAA game so far better chance its not a broken mess and if it is I got 700 games I still need to play like all the old Yakuza games are the upcoming game Sand Land which drop a few days later which to me looks like a banger.

I like to do a much as I can in a game without having to pay to unlock a pay wall. I really don't get people who act like they have no attention span never beat a game or only do the storyline and move on... if the gameplay is fun you think they'd want to explore every nook and uncover as many secrets as possible. But feel like a lot people feel like they have to keep up with streamers or their friends and it's a bad mentality. You shouldn't try to keep up with someone who does gaming as a job they have tons of time to put hours in to make content. Now as an adult I'm not quite as 'I need to do everything' but that's because I have less time to play. Thus sacrifices must be made to get to back log of games.

Either it be unfinished & buggy games, or microtransactions & battle passes. (Suicide Squad…) But I can safely say for the time being, the only games I’m looking forward to that will fulfill my gaming needs are *Hades 2*, *Dragon Ball Sparking Zero*, (Even tho I think their will be DLC, the base game content might be justified for purchase) *Stellar Blade* *Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2*, *Black Myth Wukong* and even games that came out earlier are also pretty good. *Tekken 8*, *Persona 3 Reload*, *FF Rebirth* even though two of these are remakes, they’re built from the ground up and excel the originals in many ways
