In this video I will be taking one of Europe's last remaining narrow gauge steam railways!
The Harz is a 140km (87mi) network in Germany, with the main attraction being the 19km (11mi) branchline which runs up The Brocken, the tallest peak in The Harz Mountain Range at 1,142m (3,747ft). This is what I'll be riding today!

I think it's better with narration than captions.

Fun fact: ALL German narrow gauge steam locos are class 99xxx, no matter how many axis are coupled together or how heavy or powerful they are , whether they run on 660, 750, 900 or 1000mm gauge. How comes? It all started when Germany had a revolution at the end of WW I. The new constitution, discussed and ratified at the town of Weimar, took main transport and navigation issues away from the individual states that had formed the federal German state from 1871 on and placed them under central administration and legislation. And that meant that all German railways were no longer Prussian, Bavarian, Württemberg or Saxonian ones but formed the "Deutsche Reichsbahn". A number of new locos appeared on the drawing boards that were all classified according to the jobs they were to fulfill. The big powerful "Pacifics" were the class 01, a class 02 was never built, a lighter version of the 01 became the 03, there were the fright locos with their ten smaller wheels as class 41, 42, and so on and so on. But what should be done with the existing ex-Prussian, ex-Bavarian...locos? They were compared to each other and the new standard locos and got a class number according to those results. The Bavarian S 3/6 e.g. served many years to come as class 18 (4,5), being comparatable to the 01. The Prussian P 8 became class 38, and so on and so on. All that comparing locos to and against each other lasted an eternity and drove the men at their desks and drawing boards almost insane. And when all that work had been done someone asked "And what about the small ones, the narrow gauge locos?" SCREAM!!!!!! To avoid further nervous breakdowns they were all given the last possible position within that system: 99xxx
