The Haunted Mansion, Disneyland. Summer 2009

This came out pretty good. The shot looking back at the empty hallway is there because it's one of my favorite sections of the Haunted Mansion, and, it was eerie to see it so very empty on a super-crowded Summer day.
This footage is assembled from three different times through. I'm going to do a "Prankish Spirits" version as well. One of the times through the ride stopped numerous times, and there was an opportunity to get some pretty good shots of the ballroom.
Shot with the Nikon D90 and Sigma 1.4 lens.

This ride, following the POTC, was absolute Disney perfection, the zenith of when Disneyland was so much more than an "amusement resort" to its "owners"; a real labor of love from all the talents who got it going under Walt's baton, and finished it after he was gone. A delightful video! -- really just like being a kid when I first saw it, Summer, 1969. (I much preferred the scarier "Foyer Portrait-Reveals" in sync with the windows' lightning, to the slow-fade FX now.). Big Thanks for posting!

My favorite effect in the entire park is at 7:15. The piano playing shadow looks incredible every time.

they won't demolish one of the most popular rides of all time. The haunted mansion is a legend in it's own right and will be around for a very long time

Thanks for putting this up, when I went on this ride, because of being in a wheelchair I had to go through a different a way so I never got to see the paitings till today! Thank you!

Do you know why Disney World and Disney Land are so perfect? The Imagineers. These Men and Women work solely so that every time you go on one of their rides you get off thinking it was a magical experience. They are the ones that make the haunted mansion scary AND family friendly. They are the ones who build animatronics to be so lifelike. They make sure that every time you go on the Rock n' Roller coaster, the music syncs up with the ride so well that you don't even notice it. Hats off to them

Thank you for watching. This is from way back, when most videos of the ride were shot with night vision on. It's pretty mundane compared to what some others are doing these days, but I was a little ahead of the curve I think. This is also from when KZfaq uploads were limited to ten minutes.

I actually think this turned out better than most of the videos filmed in "night vision". This actually looks like you are seeing it with your own eyes and not thru a night vision camera, which turns everything green.

Awesome Quality! this is the first haunted mansion vid were i can see everything. In the other HM vids everything is pitch black exept for Madam Leaota. THANK YOU FOR NOT USING NIGHT VISION!

Paul Frees was a master of voices, including Ludwig von Drake in several Disney television shows. His voice has been heard at many Disney attractions. He was the narrator in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln", and "Adventure Through Inner Space". In addition to providing the voice of the Haunted Mansion 'Ghost Host', Mr. Frees also supplied voices for Pirates of the Caribbean. the original movie, The Thing. He was the narrator for the 1953 War of the Worlds.

Out of all the ride videos for this attraction that i've seen so far, I have to say yours is the most clear. It's hard to shoot film on dark rides, but you did a pretty decent job given the challenge.

Hi Pantheragem. I liked this video that you recorded, it's incredible. I suggest (if possible) that you record another video of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion starting this year, obviously when the coronavirus pandemic ends (if you return Disneyland).

I plan on returning eventually. There's a few guys on here who did incredible low-light ride through, with better equipment than I had, though, this video is from like 11 years ago. I do have a new camera, so I may try it again. I do think I was the first on here to try recording inside the rides with a DSLR, with wide aperture lens though.

First time I went on this ride, I knew in a heartbeat that the "stretching room" was an elevator, for there's no way that that big of a ride could fit in that small of a building (as seen outside)

This is actually one of the easier rides to get on at disneyland. At least for me anyway. Also the haunted mansion at Magic kingdom is slightly different. Once you leave that cylindrical room where the pictures extend...you get straight on the buggies, although you go through the same hallway

@coasterjudge Your absolutely correct. I went to Disneyland this evening and stood right around where this opening scene was filmed and you can see the blue splashing water at night. It was more fun to think of it as a ghost floating out of the hearse though. :-/

@PhineasTheGhost I've never been to that ride. But Wikipedia says in the early early early planning stages for the ride, it was going to have "Restaurant of the Weird" adjacent to the Mansion. 1966 was 45 years ago. It's been a while.

LOL, I remember this ride. When my family rode it, it stopped about 5 to 10 times during the ride with the announcer voice talking about it (probably to let handicapped individuals on or something). It was significantly less scary as a result of that.

Wow, I never realised how quick the Disneyland stretching room is compared to the WDW version. The timing is so weird with the narration. By the time he asks "Is this haunted room actually stretching?', it's practically finished haha.

I removed a comment because of language, but what the member was saying was true, The "Haunted Mansion" is not closing. It closes for a few weeks every year to be transformed to and from the "Haunted Mansion Holiday" yes, but it's not being closed permanently. It's just a rumor. The Mansion will be around for probably as long as Disneyland is.

Last time I went on this ride, a very minor technical difficulty left me stuck at the part at 6:50 for a few minutes, but I didn't care. I had fun watching the dancing ghosts and wondering what visual effects techniques are used

@8DXD8 If you mean this past January 2011, I can't be sure, as I haven't been there yet this year. (But going very soon!) I was there in Summer of 2010 though and he definitely was not back in at that time. He's been rumored to be making his appearance for a few years now when they change back from "Haunted Mansion Holiday", but it just didn't happen.

That was an April Fools prank made by some bloggers. They aren't getting rid of the Haunted Mansion. Notice only bloggers who aren't affiliated to Disney parks in anyway posted about them getting rid of Haunted Mansion was made on April, and no words were made by actual Disney sites said anything about it.

@ChicanoTattooArt Yeah, it was pretty awesome. It was very crowded that day, to make it even more eerie. If you check out my "Pirates of the Caribbean" video, you'll see in my description that it was the same way. Really crowded tourist season day, yet I was in a boat all by myself.

Thank you for the info and kind words! The first time I went on it was about 1978 when I was four years old. It obviously made an impact on me that has not waned through the years. I guess the ghosts really did "follow me home"....

@gamesfan101 In my experience, early Feburary is the best time to go. You just have to check ahead of time and see which rides are closed for refurbishment.

This ride is much creepier to ride at night, especially if you're riding it in your own doombuggy. ALONE. I should know because I did that when I rode the Mansion at night last Monday, which was when my folks and I went to the park. But if the Disneyland HM is creepier to ride at night on your own, imagine doing the same on the WDW mansion, which is supposed to be creepier.

Omg! I remember this ride from when I was 5 my mom told me it was a restraunt and I followed her in wanting food and the strapped us in seats and I was screaming: This is NOT a restraunt!!!!!

They are closing this ride on August 9,2012. Its a shame but it is what it is. Supposedly they are making a new land for Pirates which means that they are going to demolish The Haunted Mansion completely. Please go to disney's twitter account @disney and put #SaveHauntedMansion.Please thumbs up so everyone can see it.

'OIy cow, is that a good camera... But why were you lagging behind? You heard the Ghost Host! :P Silliness aside, it's odd that the singing busts don't seem to have that realistic projection system I've been hearing about.
