This may be one of the best shows ever made. It is a master class in writing, directing and acting. Nothing is by chance, there are no throw away lines. Everything has intention and meaning. The way Mike Flanagan picks every shot and moment is meant to make you feel what he wants you to. Honestly it is 95% tension and suspense 5% horror. It is not that scary, but it is a masterpiece.

Good on Corey for spotting the face. There's tons of ghosts lurking in the background of shots all throughout the show, some more easily seen than others. The show is billed as a spooky, horror but it's really an amazing family drama that's wrapped up in a ghost story.

The opening narration, with "whatever walked there walked alone," is the opening to Shirley Jackson's original novel, and probably one of the most famous opening quotes in horror lit.

Another thing I might add. In Hill House, if you look carefully, you can spot the ghosts. Sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are hidden. And it's terrifying once you see them just staring. Also I love the back and forth transitions between the characters when they were young and the troubles they face as an adult.

Well the first time I watched the series, that Neil ghost scene was super scary but now after rewatching it again, the scary image just makes me tear up and so sad about what happened to Neil. The show is scary but not its main focus, it's all about family and love. Try watching until the end you know what i mean.

Mike Flanagan knows how to create an atmosphere. I also suggest his movies. Gerald's Game is a good one.

So glad you are doing this show! One of the best things I have seen on TV! 1) Whoever told you this show was not scary is lying to you. In fact, I venture to say each episode gets scarier. All of us who have seen it will be waiting for one episode in particular-sorry Blake you may pee your pants. 2) one thing that makes this show satisfying is that pretty much all questions end up being answered so hang on boys, 3) it is “inspired” by the book “The Haunting of Hill House” with some basics at least similar but a completely different story. There is a 1963 film version called “The Haunting” and a terrible 90’s remake. One of the cast members from the original film will show up in this show so that’s kinda cool. Enjoy!!! I am already looking forward to the future episodes.

Great reaction! I won’t pretend it’s not scary, this show terrified me the first time, but if Blake can continue, it’s so worth it, it’s so much more than a horror show. It’s a beautiful story about grief and pain and family. Not sure how far in advance you guys will be watching as you’re filming but in episode 6 there’s a series of 1 take shots that are insane. The show opens with I think like a 14 minute one take shot that is so impressively filmed.

This show is phenominal, so glad you're giving it a watch. It's probablyone of my favorites of all time, its so haunting in its atmosphere and its message. If you want, you guys can watch another one by Flanagin called The Haunting if Bly Manor.

Finally! That hair rocks, my dude! As for the show, keep an eye open for the background shots all the time. You might get a little surprise every now and then. And as a suggestion for the next wednesday show, you should definitely watch The Fall of the House of Usher. It's Mike Flanagan's second masterpiece after Hill House. Hill House is to The Conjuring as House of Usher is to Scream. I'm sure you're all gonna love it.

This show is an absolute masterpiece. The first episode is kinda a slow burn, hard to catch all the character names, but it really hits its stride by episode 3, and 5, 6, 8, and 10 are just utterly jaw-dropping. Can’t wait for you guys to take this journey! FYI, the first 5 episodes are centered around each of the 5 kids, in descending order of age (Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke, then Nell), although you get a lot of info about the others along the way.

I know people have mentioned the "where's wally" with the background ghosts in this show, but make sure you don't spend all your time trying to find them. You'll miss everything that actually happens in this show and they add absolutely nothing to the plot. They're literally there as easter eggs.

Something that really impressed me with this series is they have a big main cast, and each character is played by 2 different actors for them and now, but we as an audience are never confused with who's who and what's what. Kudos to the actors and the editor.

you’ll learn the character’s names better as the show progresses. it was confusing for me too at first especially with the back and forth between the past/present but once you start watching more the characters and the storylines get so much better.

*GASP* yeeessss! I can't remember if I suggested this one or not but if I didn't, it was an oversight! Haunting of Hill House is my third favorite tv show after Doctor Who and Sense8. I've watched it 4 or 5 times and I've seen a ton of reactions for it. It's literally one of the best written shows I've ever seen.... it's "Heartfelt Horror"... its horror but BETTER. Its very story and character driven and is heavily an emotional family drama just set in a horror setting. It uses tension and tragic circumstances to create its creepy atmosphere rather than cheap jumpscares. And its an emotional journey. You'll get all the feels with this one! It is such a fantastic show with so many layers and small touches that make re-watching the show still so enjoyable

The Haunting of Hill House is definitely scary time to time, if you get scared about ghosts related shit (I know I do!). But it’s also a very well written and acted family drama, I’m so happy you guys started to watch it! Remember to also check Mike Flanagans other series, like: The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher.

Guys - this and Bly Manor are two of the most brilliant horror series EVER! They're life-changing - especially Hill House. Once you're done, you need to check out The Fall of the House of Usher for some Edgar Allan Poe meets Mike Flanagan brilliance!

The actress that plays young Theodora (aka Theo/Glove Lady) IS the girl in the Conjuring 3. I think I saw the actress that plays young Nellie in Doctor Sleep (another Mike Flanagan show). The actor that plays Mr. Dudly and the actor who plays the young dad (Henry Thomas) are in Doctor Sleep too. Henry Thomas is famous for playing Elliot in ET. Flanagan must like working with him because he's in all 4 Netflix series he's directed as well as at least 2 of his earlier horror movies that I spotted him in. The actress that plays adult Theo is Flanagan's wife. And don't worry, you'll still see adult Nellie as the show goes on because she's part of her sibling's pasts as both a child and an adult. When we see their adult flashbacks she's part of it. The next episode is a slow burn, but important info is in it. After that, this series kicks into high gear and gets better and better! It's my fave in this genre and that says a LOT! I've never been made to care so deeply about the characters in a horror story before. I'm so excited to see someone new to me reacting to it! I subbed!

To Blake, I promise, this show is much lighter on jump scares than most shows of this genre, so I hope you don't get scared off watching it cuz you're an integral part of the Raggedy crew and it wouldn't be the same without you. For some reason I really appreciated Cojo calling the ladies a.holes instead of the b-word 👍 The series is based on a 1959 gothic novel of the same name btw. I know lots of people have already commented you should watch the other Flanagan series, so I'm here to recommend the movie adaptation of Stephen King's "Gerald's Game", which is also directed by Flanagan and involves the same actors as Hill House.
