The Hawthorne Effect - Or Why Everything Works

The Hawthorne Effect describes the curious reality that humans under observation usually perform better than those who are unobserved. This means that when designing a case study observation you need to be aware of this effect. But it can be used to your advantage. A PL program consisting only of observation will almost certainly improve teacher practice.
The Hawthorne Effect can also be used to explain why your diet might have worked. The very fact that you are paying attention to your food, rather than eating randomly, may improve the types and amount you are eating.

It should be noted that an experiment run at the same time in a different part of the factory showed that when a select few workers were given individual incentives (rather than group ones) productivity dropped, because the workers were skeptical as to the motives of the payments. They thought that it may be a prelude to layoffs or wage reductions. Interesting. Not absolutely everything works!

I'm studying this as a part of a module and there it says the direction to which performance behaviour changes is not set. Thus, the outcome does not necessarily be an improved one as the effect happens unconsciously.

I believe that it would be more accurate to use the words "observed" or "watched" rather than "studied".

The Hawthorne Effect is actually a pity if you think about. People should do good without being aware that their being observed and watch. Goes to show that choas exist in us all its just tamed.

unfortunately, it works. We all wish the world would be different but reality is what it is. You cannot change basic human behaviour. Thus, it is better to recognise it for what it is and acknowledge its useful purposes.

It is truly sad but it has its own advantages. Atleast they are in their best behavior. Regardless of the true motives of each one. Like how people such as celebs and politicians do big charity works for example
