So my son went to his first college audition and his nerves got the best of him, his heart was racing, he was sweating profusely, and worst of all his lip quivered, which for a trumpet player is not a good start. We had a week until his next audition and searched for any and all help we could get for performance anxiety. This video was a gift from the music gods, at his very next audition he was accepted on site and told that he would be offered a scholarship, well that wasn't a fluke because it happened several times, he ended up going to Berklee with a significant scholarship. I truly credit this video for having a significant impact. Thank you Annie!!!

Im thinking about creating a platform where people can perform infront of an random audience. It will be a longterm project, are there any people that would like to have such an service?

The Centre for Performance Science at the Royal College of Music developed a performance simulator that does this with minimum logistics.

I'm not an athlete, I'm not a musician but I'm having a very important professional typing exam soon and geez I can relate to this. I think I'm prescribing myself a daily dose of your speech. Thank you so much for your contribution!

Wauw !! Thank you for tis amazing presentation!! I realize i have to fight for what's important to me and that's playing the piano. I really love to play but when somebody ask's me to play for an audience - just by asking me- my heart skips a beat... I DON'T want that fear anymore, it's terrible!! My teacher is very kind, she understands my problem so she let me perform only in small groups, which i think is a good way to start fighting this fear. It's not an easy task and it wil probably take a while before it reduces. But i'm doing it ! As a matter a fact, i've always had a fear for speaking in public aswel so i always took the easy way...running away from it, in school to! And now it's affecting me in my daily life. A few years ago i started to changing my life, i Stopped smoking, drinking and al other bad behaviors, i exercise now almost daily and meditation is something i wil be learning soon! It's actually by learning music that I've been learning a lot of my self psychologically and i'm so grateful for that! Thanks again for sharing this video!!

I have a few current books on this topic, but reading is never as good as hearing it directly from someone who has had the experience. Practice every day will be necessary because negative thoughts and fears have worn deep grooves in my mind. Annie, you have given me plenty to work with!

A really engaging talk. Thank you. My two favourite ideas were asking my inner 'Gertrude' to stand outside the room, and eating a banana shortly before I perform. I look forward to out testing some of your suggestion.

Outstanding introduction to the industry and the musicians part of the pie. It seems the music for hire can be overcome if each musician signs the music for hire agreement with the company and make sure there is money for the funds (H&W etc) and make their own contract with the union. Of course this would mean the union would have to re-do their rules and contracts. The musician would be their own employer and not "the father of the bride" This precedent has already happened with the LAOLA (Los Angles Orchestra Leaders Association) agreement where the union lets the musician be the employer. It also allows one musician to undercut the pay of a musician that wants to be paid full scale for a job. The question the is who controls the fee offered and is it negotiable. The money aspect would be a good subject for a new video on how to maximize the musicians take based on the huge budgets you talk about.

It seems like there is nobody in the room...? Just one thing: looking up to the left side does NOT mean you're accessing your left brain... Just out of curiosity, where did you get that from??
