Around 15 months ago, I started my coverage of Elysian Realm with a video about Elysia. Today, I am ending it with another video about her. Ok… I'm not really ending it, but I plan to focus less on ER moving forward. But it sounded "cool" in my mind to say it.
HoYoverse did an excellent job with the flame chasers. Among the 13, Elysia quickly raised to become one of the most beloved characters in the eyes of the community. That is why - today, we’re going to explain her importance in the story.
This video goes over the inspiration HoYo took for her character, early history, how she founded the 13 Flame Chasers and created the Elysian Realm, her powers, abilities, and most importantly, the meaning behind her SACRIFICE and how she is the reason why humanity stands a chance against the Honkai today.
She was a selfless girl who sacrificed herself to bet on humanity's future when humanity already gave up on itself through plans like Project: Stigma. All hail, Miss Pink Jesus! Her will was inherited by everybody that chose to believe in humanity and fight for all that’s beautiful in the world!

I imagined that Elysia asked Kevin for one final ball dance, knowing that Kevin's icy aura will consume her completely, so they danced until she was completely frozen in Kevin arms and as he approached her to say goodbye, she just shattered with a smile on her face.

I gotta feeling the original story of elysian realm was more of a Shakespearean tragedy play with the whole betrayals and dark secrets of each flamechasers. But as they wrote the characters they started to love them just like we did so they changed it into a fairy tale towards the end. Also after seeing the bat shit horror of the will of honkai torturing poor old Wendy in GGZ's latest preview, really appreciate baby jesus... I mean elysia.

She is an epitome of 'nice girl' trope that actually really a good girl, not a nice girl that pretend to be nice but like to backstabbing people, her love for humanity is admirable and many people fond of her, even someone like Kalpas and Mobius is fond of her, she is the glue that held together 13 members of Flame Chaser

She is a pure reflection of all that is good. she is heavily known as god's daughter meaning she was the birth of perfection itself, her love for humanity is as such as god creating us to live a perfect life.

Elysia honestly is my favorite character aside from the main trio. Her kind and all loving nature is, while originally incredibly suspicious, incredibly charming in the end, while also being well balanced by her harmless prankster trickster side. Even if some don’t recognize it, Elysia really is the thing that binds the flame chasers, and also in the long run, humanity. Probably why she adopted the title of Herrscher of Human. Also side note: the fact that Elysia is honkai jesus is hilarious, but it makes sense, since it definitely isn’t Kiana, who’s clearly Hoyoverse’s golden child.

Well... She is Hoyoverse spin on Jesus Christ. Elysia, 0th Herrscher (Alpha and Omega), born as a "human" and was killed by 1 of her 12 MANTIS (Apostles). *Last Banquet - Last Supper She declared her herrscher identity only to be killed - for the sake of humanity. She dies and resurrects in 3 chapters (3 days) of her introduction. (Her archer suit even has a passive of resurrection.) She resurrects and ascends back to the afterlife (heaven) Her "For You" battle cinematic. There was a reddit post that gave more details on her Jesus Christ parallels. Also God is the Groom and Humanity is the Bride. Elysia being the Bride, the Humanity her Groom.

Im pretty sure Homu Labs said Elysia’s death was literally unknown, there’s no info in how she really died. Some say Kevin killed her but it doesn’t match up. The game implies she vanished to the Sea/Ocean of Stars, which makes a bit more sense.

18:05 wait... then Otto did use a similar method to Elysian's to "Hack" the tree of origins? Turn himself into an enemy of humanity (The Herrscher of Binding) make himself be "killed" by the heroes, to fool the system, return to origin and produce a change in the system that isn't possible without access to the "source code", damn Otto he knew it!!!

Dude found out the methods of creating the backdoor from Void Archive, tested his world merging/timeline splitting theories with Bianka's abilities. All of those were implied to us in the manhua, in visual novels and even in the game itself. Just that we were none the wiser back then to realize all of them

Also I gotta add: it took all of humanity back then for Elysia to become the "enemy of humanity", and almost cost the current era the same for Otto to achieve his goals. Different goals, almost the same means, same end

@@dan_chen Yeah but I think people tend to underestimate, how knowlegable was Otto about the Honkai and the old civilization tech (I mean Theresa is a (coff) perfected (coff) mantis soldier) I even would dare to say that Otto was more of a genius than Dr. MEI, Mobious and Vill-V combined (he had no issues handling machines, biology, forging weapons or any obscure part related to honkai "management"). To be fair he had access to all that knowledge and a very long life spam, but one of the first things he achieved (when Kallen was still alive and he was in his 20's) was to casually create a cure for honkai based illnesses (one of the reason why the old civilization was f@ck up is because people were dying left and right from illnesses related to honkai corruption and no one could do shit about it, even Dr, MEI died from that, Otto found a cure in his first "act", so people since then could be treated from Honkai corruption, as long as they don't receive a lethal dose capable of killing a normal person instantly.

I think that the ER is one of the best things ever made, Mihoyo make a bunch characters appear out of its ass (thirteen), situation that usually goes badly, but integrated them to the story in an almost perfect way, I think that the people who don't like the ER is because they are either too lazy to read the dialoges and lore in deep or doesn't have feelings XD, because once you start to understand their story their circusntances, their futile resistance against the apocalypse, you just can't feel moved and impressed by their actions and resilience.

more like I had higher expectations from the 13 mysterious heroes of PE. Anything PE related had this dark aura as if we're not supposed to fully know what happened cause it's too dark. Then in the actual reveal turns out nearly half of the flamechasers were clowns.

While I don't agree that ER is the best thing ever, I agree about their story and its place in the main story. What I didn't like about ER is that it delayed the story of Kiana and the gang for nearly a year for a game mode that's grindy and stories (that while cool and interesting) weren't necessary to know for the main story (except specifically the parts of the authority of origin & HoC which is like the very end in its own story chapter, not in the game mode). I agree with Homu Labs, I also didn't connect with Elysia's Archetype but respected and loved her & the flame chasers place in the overall story, eventually.

Another thing that likely confused people about whether or not, she was a mantis, was the Miss Pink Spy log; where Mobius states she has memories of Elysia getting the surgery, but no records of it actually exist. While I liked the angle they were going for before with Elysia, I actually really like what they went with; because her words and personality just didn't fit with the theme of PE, leading us to not trust a thing she says, but nevertheless she wore her heart on her sleeve. Amazing video for an amazing character 👍Happy New Year! Wishing you a speedy recovery on your back, since you're carrying the entire lore community on it. 💪

Now this makes me wonder what were the original plans for her... that she's a herrscher of human manipulation, Honkai's spy within the moth, that made everyone think she's one of the strongest heroes but backstabbed them all in the end? It kinda sounds like that's the direction they were going but... what was there to backstab after HoC already destroyed the last big groups of humanity and only moth personal were remaining?

@@Soundwave1900 I thought about this a lot since then and I actually think they didn't change their plans with her; I think it was always the same. There's 2 scenes that come to mind when it comes to alluding to other plans; 1.) When Ely and Kevin are talking about if Kevin didn't master shamash then PE would've seen a different end; and Kevin says that wouldn't have changed anything and then goes onto to say how they could have met a different end if he knew her true intentions sooner and that it was a mistake to trust her. 2.) When Kevin says that herrscher's have never fought for humanity, and that /she/ wasn't an exception. If we say that her true intentions were to pass the torch to the new generations of humans instead of taking a gamble on saving the current humanity as well as support project stigma (which she would not be in support of), I think those 2 scenes don't necessarily have to be retcons to make sense. For 1.) Kevin saying it was a mistake to trust her is likely just him being petty. In case of 2.) Ely didn't fight for the current humanity, but the future humanity, Kevin just being petty again with cryptic wording or it might not even be referring to Ely at all. I believe Eden even mentions something along the lines of how Ely could be seen as a traitor, but she didn't betray humanity. Records of Ely's Mantis' surgery not existing and Dr. MEI's meeting about everyone's first encounter with Ely don't really insinuate any kind of direction change, because they are too ambiguous and can still exist without retconning.

A though of mine: Elysia’s death is pretty much how Rukkadevata exhausted her strength to eradicate forbidden knowledge, and how Nahida erased her from Teyvat. So pretty much, she dissolved herself/returned to honkai to help humanity have a 2nd chance to break the samsara. P.S:. Her Herrscher design is really gorgeous and well made too. The Bride is usually the most beautiful in the wedding, and white also resembles purity. Overall, she truly is the Flawless Human ever created, even if she’s just fictional. Live Love Laugh Elysia 😍

Not gonna lie, at the final banquet i can confirmed that kevin was not the only one crying at that time. Seeing that side of kevin is somehow heartbreaking to me. Someone who i believed has turned so cold towards everything still has the ability of feeling hopeless and loss and expressed them while i saw him turned the way he is rn because of he just had so much losses he couldnt comprehend anymore of those things, but he is still vulnurable. Whenever im going through hardships and when it rains, it pours, i also tend to close off and just not care about anything, i dont wanna be seen vulnurable because that's just the nature human's defense and coping mechanism. But something or someone unexpected could always make me feel like it's okay, that it's fine being vulnurable again. Elysia was probably the last good thing that ever happened to my boi kevin. And Eylisa did have the ability not only to see but to bring out the true human side from all of us.

As much as Honkai or Finality is talked about, it seems that "Fate" comes up less often but there's always a tinge of ominousness whenever it's brought up Relatedly, in Genshin it's said that there's no way for people to manipulate fate while gods may have some slim chance And here we have Elysia being someone who can "manipulate" fate in a specific manner, though she has to "sacrifice" herself for it

On the character design, I saw an interesting theory: Elysia’s Herrscher of Human battlesuit, after ulting, resembles a mermaid with her seamless movement through air and the manta ray. A content creator on bilibili speculated that it might be referring to the Little Mermaid, whose story was centered around the theme of “becoming human”.

after this video I start to think that maybe we will have a similar story with Tsaritsa from Genshin Impact. She fights Celestia( that's no so good as we know) and has made herself an enemy of everyone. Tsaritsa probably god of love and maybe just want to save people of Teyvat. She also has 12 people (according to some leaks Jester(?) doesn't have number as harbinger, so it's like him + 11 harbingers (9 because of Scara and Segnora(?))). It's probably just my delusion because it's 1:32 am and I'm drunk. anyway, sorry for my english, it's not my language

16:15 I guess this analogy of "forbidden fruit" fits even better in Genshin's Sumeru storyline King Deshret insisted on getting the secret knowledge from Goddess of Flowers (who was a Seelie and thus knew stuff from the ancient unified civilization), but this brought Eleazar and the Withering to the world as "whispers of death" (and GOF died too afterwards) Then Rukkhadevata came and tried to save everyone from the forbidden knowledge pollution, but she got tainted with it too, and the problem is that while she can cleanse the pollution from others, she can't do it on herself, so she created Kusanali to do the deed for her Rukkhadevata basically willingly died (got erased) for freeing her people from this "forbidden knowledge" that was released since ancient times

Elysia made me cry, just for being so pure, honest, loving, cheeky, damn Kawaii, genuine, .. all in all, just so ideal!!! The peak epitome all that's beautiful in humanity, and beyond, other worldly, yet so very approachable and warm, a real flirt! I never got her myself yet, but I can wait, her ultimate is mind blowingly ethereal beautiful.. exactly like her personality.. by far the herscher that touch my heart, so deeply, in such a small time.. what a joy to replay Elysian realm, k owing who she really is now... i thought finality wanted to "embrace" humanity, not eliminate it but maybe you havent gotten to that part yet. Honkai's ultimate goal is to embrace humanity which is why finality resets the timeline to try again and not make the same mistakes.

I didn't want to elaborate too much on that because I plan to make a whole separate video on it. People took the "embrace" part way too literally when it was meant to be used as an analogy. From humanity's perspective, both "embrace" and destroy are the same things. Honkai is basically a higher form of civilization that evolved into Imaginary beings. Now, because of the conflicting nature between the imaginary, (fiction that is free from any kind of restrain) and humanity, (fiction that is trapped), the Honkai naturally seek to force humanity's evolution into Imaginary , and "embrace" it by absorbing humanity into itself. So, Honkai is basically a mechanism in the Imaginary Tree that forces civilizations to evolve into higher (Imaginary) beings. The term "embrace" is meant to be used as "devour", or "absorb". What "embrace" means from Honkai's perspective is total annihilation from humanity's perspective.

I'm so late but in my imagination elysia is a formation of perfection, she was the birth of god or known as the perfect being, she has a passion that never ends to a point that her own life is not nearly as high as her love for humanity. and she's just so perfecttt, to think that she is the reason new life was born after it was seemingly impossible due to finality and the fact that she influences all of the new era, she is literally the reason the world didn't collapse, its kinda like when she vanished that was the point that signified that a new era is born.

I recently just discovered your channel and I feel like I hit a gold mine! I started playing Honkai to immerse myself further into the HoYoverse lore because I’m an avid Genshin player. I haven’t really found other people who like to discuss Honkai’s story with this much depth-analyzing connections to the real world, symbolism, metaphors, etc. etc. Honkai’s story is super duper confusing for me at times and I find that, just from watching this video, I gained a great amount of insight on what’s going on. Currently, I’m an endgame player for both Genshin and Honkai and am completely obsessed with understanding the parallels of both universes. This video is awesome! I look forward to your next uploads :)

i would said mhy did an awesome job with Elysia and flamechaser, they really make me go through almost the same exp with Mei. At first, i don't like her, i thought she is just a fan-service char but as the story continue, the more i know her, the more i like her and by the time chapter 31 finished, i was in tear and truly love Elysia. All the other flamechaser was very iconic in their own way and memorable to the end.

I know, it might be nothing for Chinese guys, but in Russian standards it's quite a lot as Vladivostok also a regional center of the entire Primorsky Krai. Also, maybe it's not the same Vladivostok mentioned in the game, though. It's being an alternative reality.

So seeing the video it seems like originally they were planning to give Elysia the full course Jesus got. The whole getting stabbed by Kebin thing representing the crucifixion; before she died/made her final sacrifice. But then they felt that was too dark and changed it to something more lighthearted. Sigh....

Thank you for making these recap videos, they are very helpful for the community. I just wanted to make a couple of comments related to the parallels between Original Sin and Herrscher Humanity. I should preface this by saying that the following is what I was taught and it might be different for other denominations. - We believe that God gave us free will since the very beginning, which is how Adam and Eve were able to defy God's will in the first place. In contrast, herrschers were not able to go against honkai until after Elysia's sacrifice. - Original sin wasn't permanently removed with Jesus's sacrifice. In order to remove it, we believe that we need to participate in the Sacrament of Baptism, which is something that doesn't seem to be mirrored in Honkai (to my current knowledge) - Since we believe that we are all born with Original sin, it is sort of the opposite of Herrscher Humanity since they are "cleansed" initially but can choose to still go against humanity Based on that, the nature of Herrscher Humanity seems to be more akin to free will and the way it is implemented in the story is similar to original sin, though not entirely. Regardless, it does seem like the writers were trying to make a parallel between Christianity and Elysia's story, I just wanted to dig a little deeper and give my perspective.

The Herrschers in the previous era were akin to mindless beasts, acting only on the instinct to destroy the humanity. What Elysia essentially did was give the Herrschers of the next generation a human mind and heart, allowing them to stand on the side of the humanity if they wished to do so

Thanks for addressing the single biggest source of confusion of Honkai story ER arc; Elysia's "seemingly pointless sacrifice". It feels like the game kept on pressing that she wanted to unite the Flamechasers with a common enemy to give them hope, but that made absolutely no sense at all. But if we take her Herrscher power "Authority of Origin" into account, it all makes much more sense. Another banger video from Homu Labs, can't believe that I procrastinated on watching this video for so long. Keep up the great work. So informative, yet concise!

But the case that the herrscher can fight against the honkai(to not destroy the earth), is Kiana really the same case? I mean yes the Other Herrscher sure, but Kiana(K-423)? Because Kiana became never a Herrscher but she was from the beginning a Herrscher. I know the most whould say "it was because of the core From Sirin", but that don't chance the fact that Kiana(K-423) was from beginning a Herrscher. What I want to say is sure this law work on Herrscher like Mei or HoS, but I don't think it work on Kiana. I personally think the reason why Kiana can fight against the Honkai is because she never awaken as a Herrscher. And for all who don't know the moment were HoV came into to the game, Kiana was still not awaken as a Herrscher. Otto just triggered the HoV Persona, but he chould never make her to an Herrscher or hijack her into a "Herrscher" like Prometheus does it. Plus the HoV Persona and K-423 Persona were both Sirin("successor" I whould call it... truh, they both Sirin but Sirin Herself was long dead). That whould mean if the HoV was already from the first start a Herrscher, then K-423 whould also be one frome the start. K-423 said also in the fight against HoV "the core never Rejected me, it was you(HoV) who always Rejected me".
