Truth, HDB is heavily subsidized. Public Funds being spent or wasted in clearing areas, build roads, housing, plus amenities. Not to mention the drainage systems, underground cables, water pipes, sewages pipes, transformers, generators, street lightings, plants, green fields, trees, traffic lights, garbage disposals, and all these things cost money to maintain in 24/7 regardless of rain or shine, non-stop, whole year round, decades, or even centuries. Things aren't as simple as you think, complicated complications

SG has a land area of about 719.1 square kilometers, and not all 719.1 square kilometers can be used for housing. SG has to have reservoirs for drinking water, forest to trap and lock in precious rain and to cool our main inland. SG has several islands within the 719.1 square kilometers which are no suitable for housing, some of the islands are tiny, useless. SG needs a lot of land for roads, highways, subways, MRTs, Airports, so on and so forth of other essential infrastructures, thus, limited net area left for housings. commercial buildings, sports facilities, hospitals, clinics, carparks, factories, industries, schools, so on and so forth, endless.

It's the government's job to make sure that our precious, very precious resource, our precious land, not to be taken advantage of.
