The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve has a long and storied history, stretching back as far as 9,000 years ago when the first ancestors of the Native Americans first crossed the Bering Strait land bridge. Some eras in this history were dark, but all have shaped the wetlands that we know today. In this video, done by California Naturalist participant Eric Benson, you'll get a brief overview of the history of Bolsa Chica, starting with Orange County's first people.
This video was done as a capstone project as part of the Bolsa Chica Conservancy's California Naturalist Certification Program in partnership with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources, and has been shared with permission from the participant, Eric Benson. In addition to being an amazing video producer, Eric is also a phenomenal photographer, and has featured in our annual calendar for several years. You can follow his photography on Instagram at @varmintology.
