What I love about the Jirass fight is that, probably intentionally due to the iconography at work, about half the fight is Godzilla and Ultraman flexing nuts at each other.

I think Jirass and Gomess were the Godzilla knockoffs that Ultra properties had, and Zone Fighter and Jet Jaguar were the Ultraman knockoffs that Godzilla teamed up with. It has officially never happened though, unfortunately.

I wonder if Jirass was inspiration for the frilled lizard kaiju in Gamera the Brave. I love how Jirass is a cross between a Jurassic Park dilophosaurus and Showa Godzilla.

If the fight was Godzilla vs Ultraman, Godzilla would most likely win or it would be a draw. But it depends on the Godzilla incarnation, honestly. But if Toho was making it, they would want Godzilla to win or have it a draw to make it fair to Tsubaraya. Also when Tsubaraya was asked who would win, Godzilla or Ultraman, he said Godzilla without a second thought. And he is right. Godzilla faced Zone Fighter who is actually the Toho equivalent of Ultraman and has insane feats as well. So if that truly was Godzilla, the fight woudl have been different.

I can't really describe how happy I was to see Jirass show back up as a coin for Telesdon to merge with. I thought that Ultraman Z was going to be like that for the first half. Just bring back monsters and merge them with others in "budget" ways. But nope :(

I still like the idea that Jirass was supposed to be the same dinosaur as the Loch Ness Monster. Makes me wonder if they still modified Toho monsters into Ultra monsters if they would have made Destroyah into a monster that was supposed to be the Chupacabra.

As a kid in the late 1960's I watched Ultraman after school (in the US), so I actually saw Jirass before Godzilla. In the years before the interwebs I had the vague recollection that I had seen a Godzilla-like monster on Ultraman but had no easy way to find out for sure.

@@WhatDillionYT Yes, it was one of those vague recollections that had to wait decades for the internet to exist in order to eventually confirm. It is kind of entertaining to see the blank look on my grown kids' faces when I try to explain that until relatively recently, it was very difficult to confirm obscure info. Home video tape systems didn't even become widespread until I had graduated college, for goodness sake, so rewatching was not an option!

My 4 year old nephew has taken such a liking to both Goji and Ultra films, I dare not show him that episode of the original Ultraman series. Still, I agree this felt like a passing of the Torch episode right at the time when Toku TV shows were outperforming their film counterparts. Still, we all know an encounter could start off with a fight, but they would unite if a bigger threat came in say an alliance between Alien Baltan/Dada with Planet X, or Mechagodzilla

I KNEW IT!!! They reused the Godzilla costume to create Jirass! I also noticed, in an Ultra Q episode, that a giant monkey looked like Toho King Kong except with a tail.

Makes you wonder why Tsuburaya and Toei didn't collaborate to make a 30-minute to one-hour movie special in the 70s. The 70s would have been a perfect time to make a Godzilla VS. Ultraman special. On the first half, it will a fight between Godzilla and Ultraman, but by the second half, the true main antagonist reveal itself and both Godzilla and Ultraman declare a truce a fight the main antagonist together. At the end, the two iconic beings went their separate ways.

Personally, I wouldn’t still call or see this as a fight between Godzilla and Ultraman, bcs after all Jiras is still made out to be an Ultra Kaiju and a separate being from the king of the monsters, just that they couldn’t be that creative with it out of budget reasons

I cannot attest to its veracity but I read somewhere, years ago, that Zedus from Gamera the Brave is Jirass or, more likely, heavily influenced by him. I can see it, but it may not be true.

Definitely. Although, with how many incarnations the big G has had over the years, it is a bit hard to pin point an exact "actual" Godzilla. And this tempts me to suggest a composite version of every japanese screen adaptation to fight the Ultra.

I love to see Jirass in the Monsterverse as One of Godzilla's Subspecies from Hollow Earth and I wonder what he will look like when Legendary and Wanna Brothers add both Ultraman and Jirass in Future Monsterverse Films we need A Good 2014 Godzilla Design of Jirass in Legendary's Monsterverse and a very good CGI. Its Titanus Jirass.
