Hello everyone!
And welcome back to yet another Tekken 8 history of video!
With our continued coverage of the series, seeing as we’ve covered the pivotal characters to 8’s story, today I actually wanted to touch on my favourite character of the franchise, and one that got me Into fighting games as a whole, the fighter of the lost, and infamous Luchador wrestler of Mexico, King!
Now king Is an iconic face within the franchise, whilst he’s never been narratively tied to the main over overarching narrative of the Mishima, his Iconic look with the jaguar mask, to his unique grappler style of fighting, to his chain throws to his fantastic overarching story, King has an incredible selfless overarching narrative.

What I love about King is that he's not a person looking for glory, those who take the title of King aren't looking to put their name out there, but to keep alive the Legend of King, and what it stands for. He's almost like a superhero; doesn't matter much whos under the mask.

King & Nacho Libre , are based on the same Catholic priest Luchador wrestling for the Orphens in Mexico in RL , same with Rocky Balboa and Popeye real life inspired characters. Namco just turn it up and made King the ulitamate badass

King was so integral to Tekken's identity in the early titles. I haven't played Tekken since 3, and it's great to see his story staying grounded in generosity and kindness. Love that he reaches out to Marduk and settles his difference in such a honorific and human way!

To me i always related King and Sub-Zero . Both had multiple characters using the mantle. Both fought to avenge their former mentor, and both have their own things going on outside the main story… also helps that each one is my favorite character in each of their own games

King I getting third in the first tournament is a pretty major feat, basically means he only lost out to Paul, Kazuya's rival, and Kazuya, the guy who would win the tournament.

I think Julia and King have a thing for each other. Its not explicitly there to see, but most of the time they're either together or against each other when Julia is part of the tournament.

One of my absolute favourite fighting game characters. When I used to play Tekken 3 as a kid, I was weirdly obsessed with him and armoured King 😄

Same man I found him fun to play as and as I tried to master him I found out you could catch punches and kicks before they hit you if you time it right... it really got my friends mad cause they couldn't hit me

@@doaldoxnice! Did you ever learn his grab chains? I could never do them! I always did the forward circle big boot where he turns his back. When it contacted, it would send the opponent rolling backwards which then I'd run and do spinning drop kick. I always tried the charged clothesline too. I also played Tekken tag as King and Armoured King so yeah big fan of the character/s.

I still remember how to do all his T3 chains. Made it a whole lot easier when it made it to consoles and you could configure your R + L buttons

Tekken 3 and Tekken 2 is what got me into fighting games and King was immediately my favourite and main character because of his cat mask. It also helped that I was new to wrestling so I was really into wrestling, King was a wrestler. I wasn't going to pre-order Tekken 8 until I saw that EB Games had a king Edition that comes with a King figurine. It became an instant pre-order at that point.

I'll admit that I only started liking King in 7, and that was because I watched Lil Majin "the champion of the people" play him against that JDRC guy, hearing the crowd cheer behind him like the character himself. Wholesome

I like the detail coming from Tekken 1 forward . King was my first player In Tekken 1 fun times . Paul and Heihachi were the two hardest to fight . It shows the graphical and level of fighting forms Tekken puts into their characters over the years ❤️

Yeah, King is that marketable mascot for many an early Tekken fan before the edgy Mishima plot could ever hope to take hold. Who is this Jaguar man? Why are there multiples of him? And is that head real? Definitely a deciding factor for me that pushed Tekken a tier up past being (not) Virtua Fighter.

@@ksa7621virtua fighter is insanely hard. Seriously. But if you want to play, I believe 5 is the latest one (I think). It got remastered as well, so is available on all modern consoles and pc.

As someone who has played King and Armor King since Tekken 1, it was an amazing journey. I got to see him change and actually feel his changes too. Armor King's too (hoping he returns as DLC, fingers crossed). Such a satisfying and cool character. I feel like he's more important to Tekken's identity than even Jin because everyone knows Tekken is "the one with the tiger/jaguar/panther head wrestler". He's just that iconic, and has always been. Not just early, but now too, even with Kazuya and Jin being pushed by the story and marketing. I will always be a massive King fan. When I was younger, he was the first one I picked on the roster, and to this day, he's remained my favorite.

I still remember my first time playing Tekken as a kid. I was at an arcade and they had a raggedy old Tekken 4 cabinet. King looked cool to me, idk I guess I just found wild animals badass as a child lmao. Picked him. I literally had no idea how to play so I just button mashed and he did a suplex. My mind was fucking blown because I was (still am) a huge pro wrestling fan. Ever since then, I was a King main.

We do have a conclusion that's canon to Tekken 7's narrative. Heihachi canceled the King of Iron Fist Tournament 7 in order to convince the world that he was dead and in order to focus on exposing Kazuya to the public, leaving any potential Finals match up in the dust.

I always thought the First was the brother of the second one and Armor King was a revived version of the first, kinda like a Bi-Han and Kuai Liang storyline. I never knew about the orphanage plot.

One half of what I dub the classic match with Yoshimitsu as that was the fight shown for the original Tekken clip in the old Demo 1 for PS1 (well it was the first King then but still). And how stars would allign as I would meet and befriend someone who loves and favours King like I do Yoshimitsu.

I would be lying if I said that King wasn't one of the reasons I got into the franchise. I still remember the day I first saw him. I was very young, 5-7 years old, when I first got hands on Tekken 3. I looked through the roster, saw King and immediately pressed the button. I was always interested in great predators, so King immediately got my attention with his mask. The years passed and while I have played different characters with Jin having been my main through most of my time, at some point I always go back to King. I can feel for that man. Both of them. Turning over a new leaf. Attempting to make the world better by giving children a future and safety. And King II taking on the mantle to protect what his late teacher held so dear, making friends and enemies alike through his history of battle. Not to mention how he was able to forgive Marduk create a friendship. He is an amazing character and I do wish we get a proper conclusion to his, Armor King's and Marduk's arc. We will see if Tekken 8 deilvers on that front. Nonetheless, I am incredibly excited for the release! Catch you all in the ring!

My thoughts on King: It wasn't until I saw the graphics from Tekken 8 that I finally took notice. I mean, holy s**t, he's absolutely gorgeous physically. Still, I had no idea about his compelling back story until I watched a few history videos like yours. That only made me love his character even more. I'm not a closet furry ... totally out of the closet furry, and I'm gay, so the attraction of King is pretty immediate and strong for me. That being said, I think I'll probably just enjoy watching actually good players use King to his full advantage and make him look like the true champion he is. If I tried playing him in game, I'm sure he would fall well short of his potential. It's a tough game to master after all.

the only reason king isn't in the main story is because if he was, he put everybody in their place, there wouldn't be no war, there wouldn't be any fighting, just say no and they all stop hell, they had to kick him out of the series that they made it. Netflix just so that it can run because he was too good
