Michael Jackson was both so awesome and bizarre at the same time. Only he could make a movie and video game where he transformed into a robot and had magical dance powers. He was so red hot in pop culture, then it all came crashing down as this was basically the height of his reign as the king of pop.

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I know some people have their grievances with Michael Jackson, but for me when it comes to celebrities I generally separate the artists from the art. Regardless of whether things happened off stage as yes he was a weird guy no matter how you slice it, it's impossible to deny the influence Michael Jackson made on the popculture landscape. I respect his contributions to art no matter what else may have happened as I don't know or care at this point as I'm not out to drag a dead guy for things I can't prove and have no emotional ties to personally. I just try to remember the cool things he did because that's all that's left of the man at this point. I'd rather focus on the good in the present as I don't really feel it benefits anyone to dwell on the bad.(Unless it's the song Bad.) There was a time when he was the coolest guy on the planet, and made some amazing music and videos. His art is how I choose to remember him.

One of the most underrated licensed games of all time. Amazing graphics, perfect 16-bit conversions of Michael's songs and music overall, really impressive sound design and animation for the time albeit dated now and super tight controls. I believe Michael Jackson appears in Space Channel 5 as an NPC. Sega didn't think he'd want to be a playable character but reportedly he loved what they did, so plans were made to included him as a playable character in Space Channel 5, Part 2. Then came the allegations against Jackson, at which point they cancelled their plans to include him in Part 2. Sega further elected to not have a Space Channel 5, Part 3 because they felt that there was nowhere for the series to go, despite this they partnered with THQ to release a Space Channel 5 side game for the Game Boy Advance. As for Moonwalker, I own both the Master System and Genesis versions.

I got a kick out of 2 player stuff but there were many times I'd just enjoy the graphics, storyline and action of him playing. This game was soooo bizarre and odd. Lol. His sound effects he (Michael) made were odd enough but hunting for kids and turning into that weird, ugly robot was otherworldly! Plus, the, "Michael!" the kids would exclaim as you found them. I have only seen the Michael Jackson Moonwalker game once in an arcade. You would think I would have been exposed to it after spending many days throughout my childhood in arcades. Hell, when we were growing up every 7-11 and small business had arcade games. I remember going to freaking Tire Kingdom and playing arcade games while waiting for my parents car to be fixed. I remember bringing my Sega Genesis with me to my stepfathers old shop and hooking it to the TV in the waiting room to play games (after hours). At any rate...the one and only time I was exposed to the Moonwalker arcade cab was at a retro arcade in...I want to say...2016. It was interesting to be sure; However, what made it next to impossible to play was the sound was jacked up so high that it gave me a headache from playing it. Everytime Michael shouted it was as if he had a bullhorn next to me ears and I couldn't find any enjoyment out of it. The arcade cab was so loud it made playing most games around it an impossible task. I wound up moving to the front of the arcade and settled down with a Strider cab...now that is a great game! Oh, your information about Michael hiding his name for Sonic 3 is...well I don't want too say incorrect just different from what I heard. I was told that he hid his involvement due to his contract forbidding him to work on anything outside his record label.
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries4 жыл бұрын
I can recall in the early 80s how arcade games were everywhere from gas stations to restaurants to laundromats to department stores. So yes, I'm surprised you didn't ever see the arcade unit before that. I read Michael wasn't happy with Genesis hardware which is why he refused to put his name on it. Who knows if that's true, but that's what I read. Could be a similar situation to him hiding the fact he was on the Simpsons.

I was unaware of an arcade version of this game. Much less the master system version. Much much less the suicide battery which would have angered me had I lost any money and systems due to it. If only they knew to position it in a better manner (below the board)to avoid acid leaking on to that board. Hindsight 20/20 I guess. Anyhow it did not affect me, as I never owned an arcade as I wished for back then. I sympathize with the victims, as I have had acid leak into my remote control's, etc, that I usually can repair by scrubbing it with a bristle brush, but a board I don't know. I'm sure they tried their best. This game was not played on my genesis yet it looks OK. I always learn something new from your content while enjoying the flashback of the past century. Great video.

It was just a poor design choice on Sega's part. Thanks for the nice words, glad you enjoyed it

It got expensive after he died. It's a really common game and used to go for a few bucks in the early 2000s.

Holy smokes, I thought I was up on all the stuff from the 80's and 90's, and I had no idea there was an arcade game (I did love the Genesis version, however).

i remember as a kid my whole family gathered around our zenith tv with the rabbit ears and tin foil to watch Michael Jackson showcase the Moonwalk for the first time! also, not sure which movie that had a person turn into a robot that scared me more than Moonwalker and Superman 3.

I always wondered why Thriller wasn't in the graveyard level. I remember hearing Another Part Of Me and it was the one song on the soundtrack I didn't know at the time. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and thought it sounded a bit weird when I did hear the original since I was used to the version I heard in this game.
