In this video we dive into the previous history of my Toyota Century, who it was owned by and what it was used for while it spent its time over in Japan. I was pretty dang surprised with what I found, it wasn't what I expected and is a really cool part of Japan's history!

Will have been used to ferry VIPs visiting the Shrine from the rail station most likely. 1st class carriage then Century to the shrine. Its had the gentlest life imaginable!

You got to go up to Aomori in the spring for Cherry blossoms! Northern Japan is stunning! I'm going back next March and planning a few days in Aomori and Akita. There's a train that runs along the coast between the two that's supposedly incredible.

Good vid Mike. It's sick to learn that the limo was one owner prior to you, it'd have bullet holes and bloody seats would it have been owned by Yakuza so you lucked out man. I like the new ink and what it symbolizes to you. Cool stuff man but I would love something on the Del Slow, that'd be sick.

The Yakuza take care of their cars. Especially ones likely used to ferry around high ranking members. If someone was killed in one the car would have been destroyed most likely, they wouldn’t let evidence get out.

The place actually has a wikipedia page which has some additional information called "Shōroku Shintō Yamatoyama". Also saw some discussion in Japanese while googling where people were suspicious and asking about them because it is a newish religious movement, didn't see any real negative thing about them tho.

I would check to see how much if any clearance you have between the upper ball joint / upper control arm and the wheel tub. Regardless of ride height and air or static suspension those roll center adjusters should have lowered it the 30mm. Think of it that the lower control arm and the strut (static or air) sit in the same place and move the same amount while the knuckle gets pushed up 30mm and there for the wheel does as well. Making the ride 30mm lower. I have a 98 LS400 basically the same as yours and you reach a point on those where you have to either drill a hole in the wheel tub just outboard of the strut mounting holes to allow the upper ball joints to go up further. The other option is to shorten the knuckles and then use the roll center adjusters and dial in the ride height on the strut body. I know the suspension, steering, and brakes are basically the same as an UCF20 but im not sure how much if any of the actual chassis is the same or similar. I know being on air its not gonna be too easy to have it aired out and look up into the well but my suggestion would be to maybe find an old bump stop or something stiff but a little spongy at the same time and set it on top of the upper ball joint and then air out and see if thw ride height changes... If it sits higher you know you are maxed out on how much the upper arm can go upwards into the wheel tub and you'll have to think about modifying the knuckles or the drilling a hole in the shock towers. I also have a CB7 accord similar to the one you parked next to at the cars and coffee and i had to do the same thing on that one. Hope that helps, keep up the great work man

Btw, its probably meant as a regular "Shinto Shrine", not as a religious "headquarters", either way its pretty damn cool, would be a trip and a half to ship it out to japan and have it visit that shrine again! And I still hope you'll throw on the foglights/bumperlights again, to fill the holes EDIT: The junction produce foglights are different? I thought the OEM ones can fit in there, good to know!

Shoroku Shinto is a sect of the native animist Shinto "religion" as opposed to Buddhism which is viewed as having foreign roots (India). They're based in the northernmost prefecture of Aomori (where Fuji apples originated). The entire Tohoku region which is comprised of the "northern" prefectures (states) such as Akita (where the Akita dogs hail from), Yamagata (where a lot of financial instruments such as candlestick charts originated), and Iwate, Fukushima, Miyagi. This region is associated with the more conservative Japan (think "heartland") as it is the center of rice production, and was the realm of the Fujiwara clan which is intrinsically tied with the Imperial Court and exclusively Shinto. The family is believed to be direct descendant of the natural god Ame-no-Koyane. Most Shinto adherents, such as the Shoroku, are very nationalistic and it's not surprising they would only own a Century as it is connected to the Chrysanthemum throne and all things nativist. To give you a vibe, think Shinto as analogous to the nativist Celtic/druid/wicca traditions in the British Isles and Buddhism as the Catholic/Protestant Christian infiltration that occurred subsequently.
