Growing up in the 1980s, my dad would take me to a diner every other week to enjoy a good meal after he got off work. This diner had the POPEYE arcade game. I'd play the game everytime we go there. Fell in love with the game. Brings back memories. Miss my dad. He passed away several years ago. Thanks for posting this video. Brought me Tears of joy. Lol

As a kid in the 80s, my dad bought all sorts of vintage cartoon compilations on VHS from the 30s and 40s (as well as three stooges compilations from earlier and later) and I loved watching these old timey cartoons as a kid. My favorite being the Fleischer superman shorts and my youngest brother really digging Popeye. Popeye is probably the reason why he ate as many greens as he did as a kid.

That animation of Popeye walking through the cave is astounding. I remember that cartoon when I was a kid but it's been many years since I've seen it. Looks like they filmed a model of a cave and then animated on top of it. What an effect. That must have blown minds when that came out.

Thanks, PatmanQC, for this fun little trip down memory lane~! I loved Popeye cartoons ( as well as Betty Boop and others from that era ) as a kid, but never did like spinach until one day I unknowingly ate some in a salad, that day discovering what I'd been missing all those years; it turns out that RAW spinach has a mild taste very similar to lettuce, and I've loved it ever since. I had the pleasure of playing the arcade game ( but wasn't very good at it ) and I thought it was a really neat idea for a video game. : )

The best Popeye cartoons are definitely the Fleischer shorts. I think the first color cartoon, Sinbad, is the best of the 3 color shorts they made. Generally speaking, I like the black and white versions better. The series was at its peak in the 1930s and Popeye was probably the most famous animated character of the decade, even more popular than Mickey Mouse! I think the series definitely took a downturn in the 1940s, maybe even before Fleischer Studios was reorganized and became Famous Studios. The color Popeye cartoons made by Famous Studios are generally not as good as the 1930s Fleischer shorts. About 12-15 years ago, they released all the Fleischer Popeye shorts in 3 DVD volumes (3 discs each)? They just recently re-released volume one as an MOD disc. They've started in the last 2-3 years releasing the color Famous Studio Popeye shorts on Blu ray. They really should have remastered the Fleischer shorts in hi-def but I think the original DVD releases of the Fleischer Popeye shorts didn't meet the sales expectations that Warner Bros, the owner of those films, had.
